Nerd fact: Straight cut gears themselves are weaker than helical gears! Racecars use straight cut gears because they don't put axial forces on the transmission housing, which allows the housings to be significantly lighter, or just take way more power, whichever you're going for.

Rx3 starts at $58k, according to their website. And the Alpha, the sub 10sec pike car.... $95k. The $30k car is the 700r, which doesn't have a Hayabusa engine. It runs a yamaha 700r from the 700r Raptor.

I looked that up, and it looks like that’s a single cylinder that’ll do 9,000 RPM but no mention of horsepower. Certainly not as potent but being so lightweight I’d bet it’s still a hoot to toss around.

These are essentially hand built, they are not cheap to purchase outright and the company does not hide that. The advantage comes from the range of applications you can use these in, and the cost of running. The cost of running alone is a HUGE consideration most people do not think about because they are too focused on saving money on the purchase price. This is certainly not a product for everyone, but for those it is for, as the video covers it does so much without massive costs in time and money changing setups/modifying. I'm certain if you get behind the wheel of a side by side and one of these to compare, the difference to you will be night and day rather than just 'almost' 😎 - Taz.

I think we need many more sub-1,000lbs vehicles, and sub 200lbs vehicles. The idea that we need 4,000lbs to move less than 300lbs is fundamentally excessive for everyday use.

With EV cars setting pikes peak records alongside these, it would be cool to see one of these EV swapped. Lose about 80lb of motor and trans, pick up an extra 500lb of battery, and find an extra 100hp to lug those batteries around

There was something like this but I think it was a rzr with a tesla model 3 rear drive unit out at sema last year. And they powered it with a believe a custom pack made from 2 disassembled zero battery pack's. Looked cool but couldn't find much on it. 🤔

Would be best to put the motors at the wheels, which might not be possible with an open wheel setup like this?

@@wiegraf9009 0.o make the wheels a bit bigger and put the motors IN the wheels lol if you're comfortable stringing 800volt lines across the struts lol

Strait cut gears are not stronger than helical gears because they have less surface area touching, but they don't transmit as much axial load to the system like the helical gears so the transmission as a whole can normally hold more power.

American sportsworks carbide 150cc fun kart has all the same features, adjustable dirtbike full suspension, hydraulic brakes, rear view mirror, super sturdy frame, etc. The engine it comes with is good for 55mph but a swap is easy the way the engine is mounted on them floated.

You guys should do a video on USAC Midgets. 1100 pound cars (with the driver) with over 400hp. Naturally aspirated on alcohol and run around 10,000 RPM. We are talking near F1 power to weight, but with direct drive, no transmission, and no clutch.
