I was there too. It was warm better than rain and the music well it’s the best show I ever saw. I started in 1974 with a Pink Floyd show followed up the next month with Eric Clapton. This is just as amazing as back all those years ago. Nice little head trip for twelve hours or so

I hate to correct stuff on here, but the primary songwriter of this tune is Art Neville (I've heard Jimmie say it). - Also - to those who don't know &^%t below - Jimmie is awesome!

Art and Cyril Neville wrote the first two verses, sent it to Jimmie saying it was for Stevie. Jimmie called to ask if he could change it a little, they said yes, and this is the result. Great tribute.

On December 4, 2011, the blues world lost one of its leading lights and visionary guitarists when Hubert Sumlin, age 80, passed away in Wayne, New Jersey. Hubert was best known for his incredibly influential guitar work while performing and recording with Howlin’ Wolf. He joined forces with the blues giant in Chicago in 1954, when Sumlin was 23 years old, and continued to work with him until Wolf’s death in 1976. Though Sumlin also played briefly with Muddy Waters, he will always be remembered as the rail-like figure playing bursts of signature rhythm guitar and lead lines next to the hulking Wolf, who, in many ways, was like a father to Hubert. Sumlin was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, and raised in Hughes, Arkansas. He first met Wolf when, as a boy, he snuck into one of Wolf’s shows. In 1953, Wolf asked Sumlin to replace guitarist Willie Johnson in his band. Sumlin’s signature crystal clear tone and adventurous playing style made its mark onHowlin’ Wolf’s first two Chess albums, 1959’s Moanin’ in the Moonlight and 1962’s Howlin’ Wolf. Deeply respected by everyone from Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Buddy Guy to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Sumlin had an influence on music that is guaranteed for years to come. He was listed at Number 43 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, and Howlin’ Wolf is widely regarded as one of the top five greatest blues albums ever recorded. ~~~~ RIP Hubert Sumlin ~~ A blues legend ~~~

Hubert was one of the last living links to Howlin Wolf, Muddy, Robert Johnson, etc. He was a kid when Howlin Wolf picked him up. Wolf sent him to a college of music to learn beyond blues...Wolf was illiterate until 40s. There are even fewer left now who can say they knew any of the late 19th and early 20th century bluesmen and blueswomen...acoustic or electric...personally. Thank God for social media and modern digital tech. Things, events,, and people are not so easily lost or forgetting or destroyed via time and neglect.

In fact the song was written by Art Neville, not Jimmie. The Song was just published on his album "Strange Pleasure", that's all. Art Neville sent Jimmie a tape with his first rehearsals of that song and Jimmie published it, that's the story. Source of info: Jimmie himself, he tells it in a video comment on the DVD "Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan" ;-)

Same here! It is toooo goood! I love to play this on my 64Strat, sounds awesome. I just follow them, im playing Robert Crays whole part in this vid + that little bit of solo - that is easy. Just awesome. Sounds pretty good on acoustic to. But.. Tried to play Jimmies part also SEVERAL hundred times, but naaahhhh... To distinguish... Specific... Complicated... He would whooop my ass if he heard it..

Just imagine that SRV was present on every Crossroad festival... oh man.. Considering all the magic what he did with guitar at age of 35, and imagine what he could do today if he was still with us.. NO1 would probably sue him for rape... Or there would be a fire extinguisher present on his every concert. RIP my idol.

@TRUESAND I wish I could 'destroy' the blues the way Jimmie does. Stevie once said that Jimmie forgot more blues than he ever knew. And do you realize the man wrote this song for his brother after SRV was killed? So maybe, just maybe, we can make allowances for a voice choked with emotion - which is what is sounds like at the beginning.
