My father took me to see robert cray at the hammersmith apollo on the strong persuader tour. I've always had a complicated relationship with my dad, and sometimes i'm not sure how we've stayed talking to each other all this time, but listening to this I'm getting a bit of an inkling. I'm also reminded that Robert Cray is the singer whose voice i'm most jealous of; And that, as you both loved this, you should search out his cover of "whos been talking" and a song called "the dream" from an album he made with albert collins and johnny copeland called showdown.

Nice to see a reaction to Robert Cray, not many people do them. Anything off of 'Strong Persuader" or his next couple of albums is fire. Likewise, anything from the 2004 Guitar Festival (or the 2007, 2010, 2013 festivals for that matter) is going to be good. From 2004, my personal favorite is a song or two they did with Robert Cray, BB King, Hubert Sumlin and Buddy Guy all on the same stage. Blues royalty and a great performance. Thanks again!

When I talk to people about Robert Cray, most say "Who??"... Yeah. I was the same until the Wife and I were in a bar, and the owner was playing his music in the background. So we asked the waitress to get the name of this artist. We have now been to 3 Robert Cray concerts, and enjoyed them all. People ask me to describe his Music.... "Well, nearly all he sings about is Infidelity". However, his Lyrics come from a person who has "been there". The song "Time Makes Two" is a very simple song, but Robert Cray really pours Emotion into it. Most of his other songs tell a story. I keep looking for his next Concert near my hometown.

9:20 I love how Robert’s Strat can change color from sunburst to purple in a flash. He’s a phenomenal player and singer and is criminally overlooked. I’ve tried playing this on my Strat but I can’t hold down that 6th to 1st fret stretch he does.

Thanks for shedding some light on a great artist. I probably have 10 of his albums and can literally listing to all of them front to back. I could give you 20 great songs of his to listen to but I'll leave you with one "I was warned "

There's a local reviewer who refers to the great rock and roll male soul singer lineage - Sam Cooke, then Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye..... and he always refers to Cray as the heir to that lineage.

Check out his song "Twenty", a great modern anti-Gulf War Blues. He's always been an underrated player and IMO, "Twenty" is an extremely overlooked masterpiece.
