Looking at the diagram at 5:21, the 5 sharps/flats (red notes) shows the pentatonic scale perfectly. Just an observation that I've never noticed before.
@christianhoffman7407Ай бұрын
Every time I hear that I-V-vi-IV or something close in C I think of "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" by Bob Dylan. It looks like the wrong notes at 5:20 make up F# Major and D# Minor pentatonic scale. I know the neck is full of stuff like that but the coincidence is pretty cool - not sure if it is useful though.

If you hit the wrong note with confidence, it's called "jazz".

To all my fellow guitar beginners: what you see at 4:15 is what seems to be the A Aeolian shape. It's because.. it is. When you learn A aeolian (natural minor) you automatically also have C major in it. A Aeolian would just start from the 5th fret, and c major from 8th

Another option: play only the wrong notes 😁 Thanks Andrew, it is simple but very efficient, especially as an escape route - a little slide over one fret (or a bend to the right note) time by time is even necessary to sound good.

Can you do a roadmap video for minor keys?
@bizzy5439Ай бұрын
Would this apply to special scales like the harmonic or melodic minor, etc? Or is this strictly for the diatonic?
@blackberrywayАй бұрын
In the harmonic minor scale the biggest gap would be between the b6 and the raised 7 but you still would be one semitone away from a correct note, for example a harmonic minor., if you would hit the g you would be half a step away from the correct g#, and if you would hit f#, you would be half step away from f.

I never noticed that every wrong note is the major scale of the tri-tone. Whenever you hit a wrong note in C, you’re in F#! It’s so much easier to see patterns on the fretboard when you can use multiple colors of dots.

I love the way you teach. Since I mastered all the modes and scales, I can play anywhere, anytime and it will be correct. Pre Covid, I could play tons of stuff but knew nothing about what I was actually doing. Now a bad note doesn't exist anymore. One wrong note in the pentatonic solo becomes, Dorian, Aeolian, or if I really want to make an awesome statement with a mistake I often turn it into Arabic. What Andrew is showing the foundation, and opening to endless possibilities. Again, if I had a teacher like Andrew in the 70s, I would have made the big time much sooner.

So true! Ultimately, there's a way to use every note in every key. But starting out by learning this stuff is key to learning how/when to use the others. Always appreciate the kind words. Cheers!
