2024 here. Not sure which update ruined failover on UDM-PRO. Used to work just fine per instruction in this video. Using Frontier fiber + T-Mobile 5G home internet. Unplugged Frontier tonight to test, takes about 2 - 3 minutes for the connection to failover on UDM-PRO. Used to be a split second without noticeable disruption.

I find your video very intuitive and easy to understand. Because of your videos I switched from Edge routers/switches to UniFi solution at home and I'm very happy. Can you please do a test and a proper setup for UDM PRO or UDM SE (which I have) for load balancing WAN? With latest firmware update this is possible (at least on UDM SE). What will be the con and pros for load balance against failover (now I'm using failover as I think on load balance some applications are not functioning properly but maybe I miss some settings). Thank you.

My RUTX11 shows up in a week, and I can't wait to get it configured with dual-WAN failover on my UDMP, and load-balanced across two carrier SIMs in the RUTX11. I can even 'weight' how much traffic goes to each SIM, so I don't have to worry about the UDMP not having an LB built in.

I've had the load balance feature working about a year ago and tested it with one cable provider and one fiber provider. ! After I rebooted UDMP with them both active it gave me the option for load balance and a setting to use them by percentage of preference.. the UPNP option also requested which WAN connection to use for UPNP mapping. I don't have both now to test as I was transitioning ISP's at the time but am surprised that in your case this isn't available. The reason I had to reboot because the GPON module wouldn't work untill it rebooted and the console logs showed lots of errors when it was inserted. It all worked after the reboot though. Maybe try it?

Do you have to use a Ubiquiti module? Or able to use 3rd party hardware module for RJ45 port?
@j2s.7683 жыл бұрын
I plug an RJ45 module into port #10. then using a cat6 cable, connect port#10 (WAN2) into my router but the status remains as Disconnected. I have four RJ45 modules (two 10Gb and 2 1Gb) there is no change when either of the 4 are plugged in (and in turn connected to another device/router). By chance, have you seen this type of behaviour. And can suggest something to try?

So I have the USG-3P bought a few years ago now, and under the wlan2 section their is an additional option other than failover called weighted LB, clicking that gives us a percentage that we can choose say 50%. So I'm guessing its only a matter of time that they update the support for your device too. seeing as my device is now a legacy device. The ISP i use has a dual connection over fibre device they send us if we want to do isp load balancing with two accounts, they are achieving this using a specially configured Intel NUC. which then plugs into the network, but using the USG would be better if the software was more configureable.

Love this, question though... If I have static IP on both services and my DNS info is all pointing to the primary IP service, if my internet goes down how do I setup the UDMP/SE so the backup ISPs IP is still picking up the traffic pointing to the main ISP IP so my websites etc all still remain accessible during a failover event?

Mhm looks interesting, currently looking to replace my TP Link ER605, however despite failover, is there a option for policy routing? For example a specific client should use wan1 and another wan2? One more question, since the wan2 port is only SFP. For that I would need another switch from the router to the switch so I can go from the switch to the UDM pro. or are there any converters to SFP so I can let that step out and go from the router to the UDM pro

The interface for changing the WAN priority order is quite sporadic as it is sometimes necessary to put the SFP+ WAN ahead of the standard ethernet one. I have mine set to treat the SFP+ as "WAN1" as it makes more sense to use what is quicker of the two first.

I spent quite a lot of time trying to make the WAN (RJ45) use a fixed IP before I had to get one of those SFP+ to RJ45 and use the WAN2 as main port. Are you aware of why its not possible to set a fixed IP on that WAN port on the UDM Pro? Everytime I tried setting the IP settings, the UI reported a fatal error and never saved the settings entered. In case you want to utilize the WAN failover, I would expect that some would like to ensure that they have a fixed IP on those two WAN connections?

This is good feature in theory however I’m finding more recently that the WAN does not revert back to the primary Internet link once it’s available again. This would create an issue if you’re on LTE backup and subject to excess data charges. There is no option on the Unifi controller to switch WAN links, I’ve had to physically unplug cables to revert which is not ideal.
@fullsleevetats2 жыл бұрын
Have you found a solution to this yet? I'm wondering if some monitoring with a smart plug or some intelligent pings could sever the WAN2 connection when WAN1's public IP is back up and routable. In a power-outage scenario, that might be easier to check, if your WAN1 uplink to a traditional land-line ISP was connected to a managed smartplug, like s Sonoff S31 flashed with Tasmota, so it could detect current on the line, and react accordingly.

Hi, I use WAN2 with a SFP module to connect the UDM Pro directly to the fiber network of my internet provider. This eliminates the modem/router of the provider. Reason of doing this is that the provider does not allow to put their router in bridge mode to avoid double NAT/routing and related connectivity issues. However, WAN2 seems only to run in failover mode just like in this video (not that much of an issue I think) but like to make WAN2 the main connection and WAN1 the failover. Does anybody know how to get this accomplished?
@thatmarksguy2 жыл бұрын
Which SPF module are you using? Did you need to do any special configuration after the fact? I would like to eliminate the provider router away from the equation as well, since I'm now having to configure a double NAT scenario.
