Back when I was a teenager ( early teens) I thought that fast equaled heavy , the faster the song the heavier it was , then some tapes arrived from a fellow tape trader in America , crowbars demo landed in my hands , I couldn't stop listening to that tape , I played it to my band mates ( grindcore / death metal ) we played very very fast , after hearing crowbar it opened our ears and eyes as to what heavy was , we went onto write 10 heavy as fuck songs played much slower than everything else we had written to that point , by the time we had played 3 gigs with all the slower stuff and maybe 4 of our fast songs it was quite clear that slower music attracted more women onto the floor but it kept the people who knew us for blast beats and crazy double bass happy , we never made it big but I made a modest living playing my drums you can't ask for more really , yes it would have been great to "make it big" and have millions in the bank , but I lived my dream , played music for a living , that's all that mattered to me .
