42 years old. The older I get the more I reflect on how many times someone told me, “just enjoy the journey,” and I didn’t listen. Please, young people, just enjoy the journey!! Life doesn’t get better once u get wherever ur headed!!! It’s just as easy to be happy now, as it will be then. U will reflect on the journey with a smile on ur face. You will miss it
@tmt84256 ай бұрын
You are so right. I was around 44 when I realized that there was no destination that was happiness. Happiness is a choice. Don’t give other people the power to dictate your mood. For me the realization happened when a discussion with someone (who was an a-hole) and we had a very contentious and mean phone call. It had happened in the morning and by 3:00 it was still front of mind. I thought to myself that the a-hole isn’t still thinking about the call, so why am I allowing this guy to make me upset. From that day forward I didn’t give anyone else the power to set my mood and my day. Then it dawned on me as I looked at my career until then. I had achieved all my goals professionally, yet I wasn’t happy. I realized there was always the next step will make me happy. But it never had “happiness” I thought I had. I read a quote from Martha Washington that said (I paraphrase-I find that people, no matter how high their circumstance, are always upset or mad, or find something in their life that made them unhappy, no matter what happened. She said happiness is a disposition that you choose, it doesn’t come from others-it is a choice that you make about what disposition you want. My motto now is “choose to be happy.” I changed my life simply by choosing happy and not give others control over my mood. It takes some effort. You may have fake it for a while. But now friends see a different side of me, a side that they liked better. Instead of coming home and complaining about work, I made my self a source of happiness for my wife and kids in my family. I tried to always be positive or faked it. I went to a psychologist-that was helpful, but the main reason was that I chose to be happy. A few years later a cancer diagnosis happened. I received news in 2014 that I had less than 1% chance of making it to 2017. It is now 2024. I remained happy. I could be sick and sad and cry over my misfortune. However, I didn’t. I chose to be happy even though I was seriously ill. My psychiatrist, experts at MD Anderson Clinic, and my local oncologist were surprised. They attributed my survival based upon my disposition and the ability to keep myself with reading or learning guitar, or anything else that kept me distracted. I was not in denial, never was angry about it and rarely sad. Sure I still got mad when I couldn’t find the tv remote, spilled wine on the carpet and other life nuisance, but I only let it last a minute. I am happy I’m alive, when I die I will be happy. I have faith. God, my prayers and the prayers of others along with doctors gave me an extra 7 years. Things have taken a turn and I doubt I’ll be home to celebrate Christmas this year. Pain has increased, I can’t move like I used to. I trip and fall a lot, which does irritate me for a moment, but let it go. I have heard even a fake smile helps the body and brain. Do that until it is actually a real smile. Enjoy the journey of life, do not let others dictate your mood, and choose to be Happy.

I knew, but I still didn’t enjoy it. (40 yrs old) But some of that wasn’t my fault, there wasn’t much to enjoy. I’m trying to do better with the time I have left. I hate being all talk with nothing to show for it… so I guess it’s my small way of proving to those who know me, and to myself, that I can actually do something… and I’m not just a worthless empty shell of a man who does nothing. What does that have to do with privilege ?
@MrBrock3146 ай бұрын
@@anderslarsson7426 Apparently the people on this channel don't understand what the idea of privilege is about and think that things you earn through hard work count as privilege. Something the privilege debate doesn't care about at all. It's about systemic advantages given to a populace on a race-based system. Like my grandparents got a cheap house due to war loans which my Black contemporaries could not have. Thus, I descended from people in houses (which is known to improve academics for example) while some of them did not even though their grandparents fought in the same war.
@alexanderhalavais88376 ай бұрын
Cool, I did too. I also benefitted from privilege. Deceiving oneself about the degree to which you may have been advantaged is nothing to be proud of. It does not diminish real accomplishments. It just means not taking credit for winning on a skewed playing field. Those of us who have made real accomplishments certainly wish we had done so without such privileges. But we don't play pretend.

Spelling on purpose due to censoring
@johnbuglethorp59216 ай бұрын
As a Gen-Xer, I saw it on TV every Thursday on NBC as it came out. It was the best night for TV (Friends was also on that night), and Seinfeld is one of the best sitcoms ever created. (Even though it isn't REALLY about nothing...) Too many shows and movies now are sanitized by these embedded woke teams that screen all the ideas. The dialogue gets watered down to simplistic, unimaginative droning. Just watch Uncle Buck and compare it to Book Club 2 to get an example. We need to bring back true artistic creative expression, because right now it's on life support.

This is worse in some ways b/c the crimes can't become that much of a social contagion w/out the accomplices and silent enablers or 'flying monkeys' as they're called in psychology. I chose to be a loud and bold centrist instead of a silent, radical enabler so I am not the typical majority. Point being that we must count the sub-categories of all the categories b/c it's more complex than ppl care to know or explain. Nuance matters and childish thinkers and silly Marxists or hipsters care not much for nuance but fall deeply in love instead w/ their own bias. This is why I refer to them as children b/c they can't think critically and categorically and have not much, if any at all - depth or wisdom which can only come from having significant real life experience which is found OUTSIDE of the Internet and even outside of books!

Mind Begs the Question: • Labeling a group of people Rats is Fascist • Labeling a group of people Human Animals is Not Fascist?
@doraran21386 ай бұрын
The true definition of fascism is binding the individual for the collective. The fascine from Roman times is a group a group of small sticks bound together. Term 'fascism' small 'f' is the extinguishment of the individual for the collective, be it the German National Socialists for the Fatherland, or Soviet Socialism or anywhere else. The small strip that binds the sticks (the individuals) are those small group of elites that convince or seize power from the individuals of the masses, almost always labelled as 'for their own good'. The WOKE movement in America today is fascist, and closer to NAZIs than anyone would admit complete with their now advocacy of Anti-Semetism, complete with the Jewish roots in Mosaic Law which recognizes the individual.@@HumanBeingsRThinkingBeings
