This song was played at my husband's funeral. He passed unexpectedly on April 12, 2019. We were married 20 years, and anytime this song would come on if he was at work, he would call me and let it play on my voicemail, or if we were home and I was in another room, he would turn the volume up loud so I knew it was playing. 💔/💗 Excellent reaction. And perfect timing for me.

The core of this group was the Finn brothers (Neil and Tim), and they were in a band before that was a pretty popular new wave band (Split Enz). I remember how refreshing their sound was when this came out, as it was one of the earlier 80s pop songs that was more folk-influenced and got back to using real drums and guitars. They had two more albums that came out after this one that were quite successful. Great songs of theirs are : "Something So Strong", "Better Be Home Soon", "Chocolate Cake", and "Weather With You". You should check them out!

Great song. This song reminds me of Wellington, New Zealand (Mid 80's), because I was living there when it came out. I was dating my wife back then. Anyway, the lyrics say "In the paper today, tales of war and waste, but you turn right over to the TV page". New Zealand is far away from the rest of the world, so they didn't bother back then to even keep up with all the negative B.S. going on around the world, just what's on the tele tonight. This band is from Australia, so they were very popular in New Zealand. Reminds me of sweet fresh air, living on an island in the middle of nowhere. Loved the review guys. Thanks.😊

Spaghetti wood, laugh. Perfect. This song was so popular in the 80s, it was on the radio all the time and MTV and played in the clubs and House Parties. Surely it's been in TV shows and movies. It's that whole 80s pop thing and it reminds me of bands like Madness, soft so, the Eurythmics, Flock of Seagulls, Boy George, on and on. I didn't particularly like that genre at the time because I was into what I thought was more interesting stuff, but it was part of the fabric of my life because you heard it everywhere and many of my friends or into it. I'm listening to it now, it is definitely one of the better ones and of course it gives me a nostalgic feeling and it feels good.

You would hear this in stores when shopping, all over the place. It's a huge forever-classic that just gets played everywhere. Background in cafes, you name it. And it's one of those songs musicians love, too, so it's really held in esteem across a lot of genres, which is why it gets so much play in so many places. I saw these guys on tour for this album, a nice theatre with about 4,000 people, and we all sang every word of this song. It's one of my fondest concert memories.

Pure 80s goodness. I don't even care if you guys don't like the song. The video gets a like before I even start the video lol. This song is summers at the pool for me (I was in 6th or 7th grade when it was released and it was on regular rotation on top-40 stations for the next 2 years). It's funny that you mention smell because I can sometimes almost smell the chlorine when I listen to this song. There is that much nostalgia and memory tied to it. Thanks for the trip down memory-lane!

I’m always overcome by nostalgia and a sense of melancholy whenever I hear this song. Went through a lot of changes in the 80s. Graduated high school, became a Marine, got married, and this song seems to have been a part of my soundtrack back then. It’s just an iconic 80s song.

this is a song off one of Stephen Kings movies. Crowded House had a string of world wide hits in the 1980s/90s. The band name came about when they moved to USA, near broke they moved into the same house with all their families, hence the name Crowded House.

Crowded House played this song on their farewell to the world tour in 1996 on the steps of the Sydney Opera House to a crowd estimated between 100,000 - 250,000 (check out the live version from this concert) Neil Finn has also sung it with Stevie Nicks in Fleetwood Mac's latest tour. Mick Fleetwood sought out Neil to replaced Lindsay Buckingham in 2019.

So many superb songs by Crowded House which others have pointed towards, this being one of their better known ones. They probably would have made a ton more if they hadn't split up at the height of their powers in the mid 1990s. Also take a look at the band Split Enz which was the precursor to Crowded House in the late 1970s-early 80s, the memorable track "I Got You" being one of my favourite tunes of the decade.

Btw, I recall this song being used (this version, the original) in a commercial for some financial corp like Prudential or something of that nature. The content was about making your finances right for your fam's future, stgh like that, and this is a wistful song so it sorta worked. Maybe within the last few years the ad was on telly a lot, but I do recall it on a commercial, defo. I am willing to bet Brad/Lex heard it from that same ad, but all 3 of us forgot the company using it. However, it was a very popular song that still gets radio play on 80s chans a lot, so it's probable they heard it before w/o knowing the band or title.
