It's so fucking depressing listening to paul talk about his future even though he's only got ten years left

Hessie on a big manic upswing here. Shame he never got the help he needed. RIP mood swinging man.

I agree. I have always thought this.

At the time, you wouldn’t have guessed he was manic. He always looked like he was having fun and had lots of dry wit which is typical Aussie humour. His passing in 2005 completely shocked me. I still miss him and I think Crowded House, although I still love them, never were the same again.

@@ChristopherLightfoot-zu3kb I'm gutted I never saw them live when Hessie was in the band. I have to say, though, I saw them in London last year and I think adding Elroy and Liam to the lineup was a stroke of genius. They bring a vitality to the band that I think maybe hadn't been there for a while. Liam in particular has that impish sense of humour that's perfect for them. It was honestly a terrific night.

@@simoncarswell3515 Thanks for your beautiful reply. I am glad you enjoyed your recent Crowded House gig in London. Was it at Shepherds Bush Empire? I loved the last album Dreamers are Waiting and the new one Gravity Stairs (can’t stop listening to this album) There is a touch of melancholy in those songs. You are right…there is a breath of new life with the addition of Elroy and Liam and of course Mitchell Froome. I seen Crowded House in the late 80s and 90s with Paul Hester and loved the onstage banter flying between the boys. As you pointed out, the banter between Father ans Son puts the humour back in live performances. I think they sounded great when they reformed in 2006 after Paul’s passing and caught a couple of their gigs. I even flew to Sydney to catch the last performance of the 2016 Farewell concert. So I am very happy about the new line up too. Who knows, I may fly to Sydney again this December and catch yet another performance at my most favorite venue and much loved City.

@@ChristopherLightfoot-zu3kb I saw them at the Roundhouse in Camden which is my favourite gig venue. It just made it extra special. At the end of Fall at Your Feet Neil screwed up and forgot he was singing the last chorus so the band kind of ground to a halt. As one person, the whole crowd sang the chorus to him as he strummed his guitar. That was a moment I'll never forget. Seeing them in Sydney in 2016 must have been something, very jealous you got to do that!

Neil had to make a decision about disbanding Split Enz ( even though it wasn't his band technically ) and then Crowded House, easy peasy ;)))

Why do they keep calling Crowded House an 'Australian' band when the guy who fronts it and wrote all its songs is a Kiwi?

@@jamesrobertson432 No, I'm not 'focused' on that. I also think about the prospect of financial collapse, ethnic pogroms and nuclear annihilation. I also like a laugh and a bit of sex now and then....if you must know.

@@jimmycricket7385 ha ha 👍It was an Australian band because the band was formed in Melbourne Australia and all of the members were based there for the first three albums. It's like if a Canadian moved to France and he and two Frenchmen opened a business. Let's say the Canadian was 80% responsible for the success of the business. Would you say it was a Canadian business or a French business? It would be a French business wouldn't it but with the Canadian partner mainly reasonable for its success. If that business invented something with the Canadian 80% responsibile then it would be correct to say it was invented by a French business but you could also say it was invented by a Canadian and two Frenchmen with the Canadian 80% responsible. Would you agree?

Well they started off as a trio. Sure Neil's a Kiwi. But bassist Nick and late drummer Hessie are Aussie's. So they're kinda both a NZ and Aussie band.
