I've wondered for a while now (since I came back to watching this and re-living old memories) why they chose 'Distant Hills' as the closing theme? I found myself humming it on the way home when I was on Jury service a few years back (I started watching a few episodes then too).

That had to be THE worst attempt at an Australian accent I have ever heard. In 1970s England there must have been dozens of genuine Australian actors ready to take that part. I know, for example, that Charles "Bud" Tingwell and Nick Tate were doing television work at that period.

@@geezerp1982 13 August 1964, two men, convicted just a few weeks earlier of murder, were led to the gallows at separate prisons in Manchester and Liverpool. No one involved knew it at the time, but Gwynne Evans and Peter Allen were the last executions before capital punishment was abolished in Britain. States of Jersey is a separate jurisdiction in law.

Only in theory. Capital punishment had long been abolished. Indeed, that was part of the point of the show - it was broadcast at lunchtime, and in theory young children might easily be in the TV audience, so it was important that nothing too upsetting be included.
