You are correct. The Canadians from whom we purchased the locomotive from., attached their own builders plate stating the locomotive was built in 1957, yet I used to ride behind the first Crown when it was in California. Thanks!

Quechee Gorge Village in Quechee, Vermont had one exactly the same as this one but it didn't have the lip on the top of the stack, had a whistle with a longer bell, the roof of the cab was full, and it had a large tender with the compartment on the back for the propane tank. Theirs unfortunately died but I think they are restoring it because they're very easy to maintain plus it is an older Crown Metals 4-4-0. The are using one of the popular CP Huntingtons in its place

Just a small note. Crown didn't start building 15" gauge steam locomotives until 1959. The first one was sold to Gaylon Borders in Flora, il 1959.

@marylandbluejay The 1956 is a typo and the locomotive uses diesel fuel to make steam. It is STILL at steam locomotive.

The cylinders need a constant supply of oil administered in small amounts like a mechanical or hydrostatic lubricator. Pumping a few pumps of steam oil at the beginning floods the cylinders and then quickly runs out allowing the valves and cylinders to score and no longer seal. Having the fire go out at 140 psi allows cold air to be drawn into the firebox and the thermal shock to the boiler and tubes can cause sheets to crack and tubes to leak. when running there should always be a fire

Nice briefing here. What modifications were needed to the firebox burners for Diesel #2? Most oil-fired steamers use fairly heavy fuel oils.
