Truly a tour de force! This man has the British Bulldog spirit, unwavering, dogged, determination, nothing will stop this persistent individual. Better welding in the sun and dry I guess, rather than in the rain or freezing snow. This car is going to be stronger than a tank when you've finished, certainly as heavy 😁. Might be easier to lift the body off the chassis, a la Range Rovers. 😎

I love that you’re taking the time to bring her back! While it sucks that someone mislead you, in my weird opinion wrenching on a car and making it your own kinda connects you to the vehicle more then a car that you just get in and drive. Rock on amigo!

Man, can't say that I'm envious of you welding in blistering heat! But it shows how much you truly care about your P71 and want to get it back on the road! Hopefully it shouldn't be too much hassle when tackling those other nasty spots of rust, and I wish you luck with that! I'm currently trying to motivate myself and my relatives to work on our own cars and get them road worthy again this year.

Considering you're a professional photographer your panel beating/welding is very impressive. As a H&S professional myself in an engineering workshop (burn, weld, grind) I cringe when you wield a grinder. Severed digits, limbs and arteries are a real hazard. As I very much enjoy your channel I do not wish to see you hurt. Please consider not holding the item your grinding in your hands but clamp it in a vice/workmate. If that disc kicks back there may not be any more Furious welding/driving. I know, I Know bloody H&S kill joys but I've seen too many bad injury's not to say anything. Brilliant channel and I want it to continue.

A mate of mine just had two weeks off sick until his thumb had healed after a piece of sheet metal caught on the drill press. So yes, it's a real thing! KZbinr CT Moog has a lovely (unintentional) safety demonstration on his channel. In one of the earlier Beetle repair videos he tried to drill holes into some sheet metal without clamping it. The drill caught, the metal started spinning, hit a can of WD40, bashed a hole into the can and the can set off like a rocket, flying at least three metres through the shop.

Just a word of advice old chap, if any of those sparks land on the glass of the car they'll burn in and stick; and the first time it rains or you wash her, they'll rust and you'll have lots of horrible brown flecks in the affected area. Chuck a bed sheet over the roof old son!

After watching your last video, I purchased one of them strong arm, bending tools. I must admit it’s saved me absolutely hours. Previously I was messing around on the floor with blocks of wood and big hammers. Consider purchasing one of them step drills.They are brilliant on thin sheet metal. You are definitely doing a cracking job. I think next month you will soon be ready for the MOT 🎉

That curved end on the front of the inner sill looks a lot less daunting if you use a pen to highlight the 'lines' of the part. It makes it easier to visualise what the shape of the patch panel or sections need to be. Highly recommend watching Fitzee's Fabrications for learning how to make complex shapes in several parts using just hand tools.
@TK42138 Жыл бұрын
One technique to replicate pressed indentations in a sill panel, inner strengthener etc is either by marking out the shape on the panel using a Sharpie then hammering over an open vice where the vice jaws are open slightly wider than the width of the feature you're replicating or using a socket and a big bit of rubber sheet, floor mat etc and squeezing the lot between vice jaws.

Often the case after reeling with shock , before you found the plan of action , but once you get going things take shape . it strikes me you need a Planishing hammer and a hand Dolly with at least two flat sides that you can hold behind seams to support coaxing with said hammer so you can shape bits and push metal in to corners , get one with a finishing pick back end that is flat chisel like ,I found that best for teasing metal in to corners , getting stuff flat and tapping around things like your mole grips .
@TheSiruncle Жыл бұрын
I don't know if anyone's suggested this, but for the corrugated bits on the inner sills, you may be able to stitch the easy to get at, flat bits on, then use the ball end of a hammer to knock any recessed bits in. The metal will stretch a little, but that can be used to your advantage. Bit late for side number one, but might work for the other side?

Watching this, and you talking about the corrugation, I am wondering if the piece you are putting in should be straight, only spot welded where they meet. That would allow condensation to drip out. The sills are meant to have water flow down from the cowl vent and drop out the bottom of the pinch weld. Since those two layers you are working on are the two inner layers of the pinch weld, it may be that they should not be sealed.
@furiousdriving Жыл бұрын
The vertical parts didnt touch before, there was always at least 5mm between the inner and outer sills, at the bottom (horizontal) it was a tight sandwich, but that seems to have been a source of rust as it was unpainted and corroded between the layers. I will drill drain holes in the base of the inner to drain out, so it will still allow water to get out
