I haven't finished the video yet, but there is a cheap, easy, and effective way to solve the speed of the turn signal flash. You get one of the electronic flashers that is used for trailer towing. The speed of the flash will be spot on, even with just the front signal being a normal bulb. They cost about $7CDN, or about £5. I can't imagine the mailing cost would be much as they are small and light, so if you find you need one, shoot a message and I can have it in the post the same day. I have changed more than a few. I would also do the one for the 4 way flashers because of the way they are wired. If the 4 way flasher goes bad and sticks in the wrong position you are left with no brake lights or turn signals as well. You get one guess to figure out why and how I know that. Here's a hint: 5 Panthers and 4 Torino Birds. I'm up to 11:03 now. You backing down the drive needing to give it a bit of throttle tells me that the brakes are still sticking, and likely more than one. With the age of the car, it is likely a good idea to do all 4 flex lines, too. They can delaminate and the lining of the hose can act as a line lock. For dampers, the Ford branded Gas shocks are the way to go. They just work better. They also last, having seen 150,000 miles out of them before failure.

Even as an American I find these things a challenge to drive on smaller streets - it's not the length, but the width. Imagine they must require a lot of concentration on UK lanes. Though for truly gargantuan Fords, I think the 1960 Galaxie (and Mercury counterparts) have it at 81.50 wide - 2070 mm. (They weren't even officially 'legal' in some states - though Ford got a one year pass)
@johngregory48012 жыл бұрын
The Crown Vic/Grand Marquis is only 4" wider max than a Mustang. It's being used to big cars that makes them comfortable. I learned how to drive in my Mom's 1978 Ford LTD station wagon... And my Dad's '78 Ford Fiesta. It gave me a nice contrast.
@tinplategeek10582 жыл бұрын
The width of the UK Ford Transit van is 2474mm including the mirrors so the Crown Vic isn't too big for UK roads. Just needs more concentration due to being driven from the wrong side of the road.

I can't think of too many cars more out of place on UK roads than a P71 Crown Vic. I love it. Very glad the MoT is complete. At one stretch, I used to get P72 rental Crown Vics fairly frequently. Sort of a quirk of the rental agency my company relied on, I think. I appreciated the relaxed and quiet ride, but maybe not so much the fact that everyone in front of me immediately dropped to the speed limit, and people refused to pass me.

I have a grand marquis here in Bahrain 🇧🇭, many people in Gulf mainly KSA, Kuwait, and Bahrain feel in love and loyal with these cars ( panther platform ). These cars spare parts here in the gulf region is very cheap as there are many of them.. Happy to see this 98-02 CVPI in UK as it is unusual
@grid2122 жыл бұрын
Enjoyed the high drama when the CV returned home and was immediately given a stern dismantling. Well played getting that fixed yourself. I bought an LS430 recently that had a collapsed rear air shock. Took me a while to find a mechanic that would fit replacement used parts, so that I too could get it MOT'd. So I know the frustration of looking longingly at a car you can't drive. Car passed with no advisories, but the joy for me was short-lived when the front shock went along with the compressor. Ebay is an aladdin's cave for car spares though so I'm back up and running (for now).

Congratulations!! For reference, since you are doing shock absorbers, consider Bilstein 24-014953 for the front and 23-014960 for the rear if you cannot get Motorcraft police shock absorbers. The Bilsteins ride a bit firmer, but they are great and also quite durable. For the stabilizer bar links, I recommend sealed units that are factory filled with synthetic grease. The Original Equipment part is Motorcraft MEF-171. As for brake fluid, definitely flush out the old stuff and refill with DOT 4 Plus or DOT 5.1 brake fluid. Also consider changing your power steering fluid; the Ford pumps tend to have the infamous whine at some point. I'd suggest you go with CHF-11S for that one.
@furiousdriving2 жыл бұрын
Ive actually already ordered the shocks and links from Rock Auto, sealed links and standard Motorcraft Police spec shocks. I thought about firmer ones but as Im only doing the front didnt want to upset the handling, and wanted to try it in regular form before modifying it. Someone else commented about using transmission fluid in the power steering, have you come across that before?
@balkanca2 жыл бұрын
@@furiousdriving Ford calls for Mercon V ATF in the power steering system, used to be plain Mercon at one point before Mercon V superceded it since Mercon is no longer being licensed. That being said, CHF-11S hydraulic fluid is a far better fluid for the power steering system. It uses a PAO base stock (doesnt thin out or break down easily), has an extremely high viscosity index (great for extreme cold and extreme heat) and a low cSt (flows easily) that is only matched by aviation grade hydraulic fluids.

Edit: Not to mention for a ol Vic it is blessed coming from Ohio and surprisingly clean/bearly rusted for it's age most of the ones I work on even if low mileage the salt has just eaten them alive. As a Ford nut I hope it does you well, also lots of the taxi Crown Vics I've worked have their original engines with 300k-500k miles on em still running strong... Maintenance goes a long way with em.
