So sad to not have more videos like this one from Time & Tide. Always informative and good at giving the viewers context to the model and brand, I miss your efforts. Why the hiatus? Consider coming back and making content, please. Take care.

I was under the impression Zenith had already been under new ownership for several years. They were bought by an American manufacture of TV sets that by coincidence went by the same name. They wanted to jump into the quartz watch market that was about to blow up. In the mid 70’s, management told Vermot to take everything associated with the manufacture of the El Primero to the dumpster. They had no intention of selling off the tooling and drawings. Damned good thing Vermot had the keys to that unheard building he contributed to saving both Zenith and Rolex.

Spectacular! By the way, how did rolex use the movement?
@miazoi78913 жыл бұрын
It was the original Rolex Daytona movement.
@CrownandCaliber3 жыл бұрын
It was the first automatic Daytona movement. It was used in all Daytona models from 1988-2000. After that they introduced an in house movement. -Mark

This was a good video, definitely enjoying Hidden Gems, but could somebody please tell me where Nathan went?

left the company months ago. I asked where he was and someone mentioned he chose to leave

@@stephen9609 thanks for answering! That stinks. I really liked him a lot. I hope he pops up somewhere else.

Yet people trip over themselves to buy a Daytona. Thank god that engineer had the foresight to hide the tooling and drawings in the ceiling.

Isn't the 360,000vph portion from fellow stablemate Tag Heuer?
@CrownandCaliber2 жыл бұрын
They made it first in small quantities, Zenith perfected it. At least that is my 2 cents -Mark

@@CrownandCaliber ahh! Very cool. I think the flying seconds hand for the chrono is stunning. No surprise zenith was able to really make it shine. Glad to see them getting more recognition(at least from what I can tell). A great brand with such a rich history

@@CrownandCaliber Honestly it was the unusual styling. The little turbo fans and overall design just looked intriguing. With so many watches that all look similar, this one stands out big time and I HAD TO HAVE IT! In my collection, I also have the ZENITH Defy El Primero 21 - Singapore Edition (1of20) and it was love at first sight too.
