Made by the Eclipse radio company which produced the Peter Pan Radios. A little bit of effort to get this 80 year old radio going, but perseverance wins through. No schematic for this radio unfortunately

You’re right about the tone preference Frank; I think the .02 was a great choice and sounded great. I forgot all about the VO5 products, I wonder if their still around today. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ken. I had a quick kook and V05 still sell hair care products. I've never noticed them on the shelves at the supermarket, I must check next time

An interesting radio Frank. Reminds me of some Philips European models. I noticed the rectifier socket had only 4 pins. Is it an 80?, unusual for 1940. And the four valve radios don’t have as much gain as five valve ones. They were built to a price. So a long aerial is necessary for shortwave.

Hi Robert, this case or very similar was used by a few manufacturers, like Philips as you said and mullard. I can't remember if the rectifier was a type 80 though, but your probably right. Thanks Man :)

Loverly sound, maybe a long wire would bring the short wave to life. I hear you saying ' bugger off Pommy' lol :-D

Hey D, yes a longer wire and I can listen to radio china lol. Nah mate, we love pommies here in the colonies. Thanks for watching :)

Huge capacitors there
@exeterslab77816 ай бұрын
HI Rod, yeah, the old caps are very big compared to what we have today. They all run off DC but now you have me thinking about what would happen if you put some AC through them. I'll try that one day but only at low voltage lol

I have never seen a Croyden Radio. Is that an Australian Brand Frank?
@exeterslab77816 ай бұрын
Yes Larry. For a small population back then, less than 10 million, we had a lot of small and a few large companies making all sorts of radios. The Croyden may not be rare but they are scarce, esp one with those clam shell carry handles :)
