Great videos, man. I have realized,in the last few years how important it is to preserve this tech. So many CRTs have been thrown out because we considered them obsolete(which was Dumb).

This was the first TV I ever bought completely on my own at NAS Lemoore NEX in 2005 lol. Also the last CRT I'd ever buy (up until today atleast) Excellent TV. But a damn beast to move around in a barracks room lol I eventually sold it after a couple years to a friend of mine, and ""upgraded"" to a 32" Westinghouse LCD. I could finally see my new Xbox360 and PS3 in 720P/1080i ! But a better TV other than that, it was most definitely not. Wish I still had this wonderful JVC, but just too big to be in the military with. WAyyyyy too much moving around for that. Cheers!

Picked up a free 27" D Series last year also complete with the rocking feature. Games look fantastic but man laserdiscs are phenomenal on it. The Abyss with its extreme contrast of the pitch black ocean and flood lights in so many scenes really shows off the capabilities of CRT. Gave a buddy his first laserdisc experience this weekend and he was amazed at how detailed it was and how smooth the motion is for standard def CRT when you have properly mastered content, and that was widescreen 2.35:1 so half the resolution went unused. We really took a step back in picture quality for space and size with regular LCD TVs back in the early to mid 2000s. Luckily there was plasma, though for a premium, and now local dimming QLEDs and pixel dimming OLEDs for good prices. CRT is great, great video.

This is definitely a top CRT I’d want. Definitely want a curved tube over the Trinitron/WEGA’s flat one. The D-Series is also nostalgic to me as my high school, which opened in 2002, had some silver ones and I can’t tell if they’re 20 or 32 inch ones. I want one but unfortunately they’re very hard to come by in my area and idk if my high school still has any and if they’d be willing to sell at least one to me and the nearest D-Series for sale on Facebook marketplace to me is a black 27 inch and it’s all the way in San Francisco, a 4+ hour drive and they want $490 for it, I’m not interested in paying that much when I don’t know the condition or driving that far. Luckily I found a 36 inch RCA similar to the one that was in my garage for 10+ years of my life until we got rid of it because we decided it wasn’t worth paying for cable out there anymore that’s only a 30 minute drive away and it comes with a stand, and they only want $20 for it. However, idk if I’ll get it because I don’t know if it’ll still be available by the time I get back to CA(I’m in college in NC right now but about to leave for winter break) and I don’t know how heavy it is or if it’ll fit in my Jetta with the seats folded down or if I’ll need to borrow my grandpa’s truck or at least fold the seats down in my dad’s Mercedes SUV

Nice! I have a few of the D series myself a 32" charcoal set from 2000 with the Panasonic tube and a 36" silver from 2002 with the silver case and Thomson tube. The 32" is more vibrant amd has deeper blacks and brighter contrasted whites compared to the Thompson 36" tube. Which has a softer picture. I love them both though and they both have amazing pictures and geometry. Great video and keep them coming.

5 years ago I was searching online for a D-Series but none came up in half a year or longer. The only one I kept seeing was a 27" (I wanted 20") and it was almost 2 hours away. Well one day there was a kitten hiding in the engine of my car then it ran up the back of the car and I couldn't get it out. So I went for a walk to kill time hoping it would be gone when I got back. On the walk I found a pristine 20" D-Series on the sidewalk! I have 2 PVMs and 2 FV310s and I love em all and the JVC is so good for a consumer set with that clean shadow mask picture, bubble tube and s-video/component inputs. I watch a little bit of Home Alone 2 VHS on it last night lol.

I just picked up this same TV, but mine is an AV-32D201, made August 2000. The only difference I can spot is that mine from two years prior, has a black casing, not silver. It looks competely identical though and has the exact same set of inputs and preforms well. However, although the tv was free and it's amazing tv for free, it sadly didn't come with its original remote. Can the service menu be brought up on a different remote or through the tv's mounted buttons?
@RetroGameRarities Жыл бұрын
Man! I'd love to have the black case. You can't access the menu from the TV buttons. A universal remote should do the trick. You may find a remote at a thrift store. I see remotes all the time when thrifting.

A sad sad thing happened a few days ago. A free curbside JVC D-series was posted on Offerup. Near mint condition. I show up ready to take it home…. After 45 min of driving. It was a 36 incher! AV-36D501. Can’t lift that solo into the car. I asked and was told it was a 27 incher. Pretty bummed out but will have patience for a smaller gem to show up. The set I believe ran for over $600 when new at the time.
