5 years ago I was searching online for a D-Series but none came up in half a year or longer. The only one I kept seeing was a 27" (I wanted 20") and it was almost 2 hours away. Well one day there was a kitten hiding in the engine of my car then it ran up the back of the car and I couldn't get it out. So I went for a walk to kill time hoping it would be gone when I got back. On the walk I found a pristine 20" D-Series on the sidewalk! I have 2 PVMs and 2 FV310s and I love em all and the JVC is so good for a consumer set with that clean shadow mask picture, bubble tube and s-video/component inputs. I watch a little bit of Home Alone 2 VHS on it last night lol.

Nice! I have a few of the D series myself a 32" charcoal set from 2000 with the Panasonic tube and a 36" silver from 2002 with the silver case and Thomson tube. The 32" is more vibrant amd has deeper blacks and brighter contrasted whites compared to the Thompson 36" tube. Which has a softer picture. I love them both though and they both have amazing pictures and geometry. Great video and keep them coming.

Thanks for your demo. It gives some inspiration for my own setup. Will you go for a Raspberry pi 4 or do you still think this H96 max X3 is better? Perhaps you have a more modern hardware to recommend around 50/75 dollars?

@@SupaaManix thanks for watching! The H96x3 is solid for a quad core up to 1.9ghz with 4GB ram, HDMI cable, power supply, etc. all included for under $40. RP4 is going to be better quality albeit more expensive. If you want to open this up to PC, grab a used HP Elite desk sff for under $100. This will be the most robust option. I did a video on this for Saturn emulation and it works amazing.

@RetroGameRarities Yes I also have a SFF office PC for an horizontal build with light gun. But for vertical and especially pinball, the cheapest entry is Android. Pinball in windows required a shit load of power unfortunately. I didn't find a friendly way to emulate android on windows and get vertical orientation "out of the box".

@@SupaaManix agreed PC setup is fiddly. I love these android boxes. Have another in a barcade build. Super easy setup. If you go H96 Max, make sure to get Amlogic chipset. There's a clone that uses Rockchip which is less powerful.

I don't have the manual, but this is how it works: Hold the prog button, the button programmed and the Back button all at once. Do this for all buttons and it should go back to stock settings.

Quick Shoutout to the Championship Joystick by C&L Controls, the only Arcade Stick from that era that was actually legit. Totally not a bias because I am the son of the guy who made/sold it. He used real arcade parts and it still holds up to this day... I've even modified one of them to work on PC/PS5!

I'll take an old light gun with CRT any day but I just got 2 of these for $20 so I can play HOD again. PS Move actually renewed my love for gun games with HOD Overkill. Not the same but still fun! Great video, btw. But I still play Duck Hunt and Operation Wolf so my opinion can't be trusted! 🤣

If you plan to transport the stick on the plane, installing "The Link EX Groove" might be a good idea. It's a detachable shaft. You can take the lolipop off, shove the rest of the controller into any bag or backpack, and within less than 1/10th of a second re-secure it back on the stick. arcadeshock.com/products/phreakmods-the-link-ex-groove-edition

Just think about it for a second. If he wants multi-console support for this, all he has to do is sub out the PCB for a Brook Retro Board, install an RJ-45, make a SNES Console cable, make or purchase the other cables he wants for the other consoles [Including USB for PC] and he's rocking.
