My mom and I cruised the southern Caribbean on this great ship in 1994! Stops included Caracas, Venezuela and Oranjestad, Aruba! Mom had a great time! Cherished memories of a cherished experience on a great ship! ⛴️⛴️

What a difference a year makes. Fascination was so full of life and fun last December when observed departing from St Kitts.

That's unfortunate. This ship was refurbished just a few years ago and along with the Fantasy (scrapped) actually looked really good inside and offered 3, 4 and 5 day cruises which for cheap and quick cruises was amazing. Why did this ship look so rough though as of recent?

i dont think the general public realizes how much work it takes to keep these metal beasts looking good. salt water and metal dont mix. the maintenance crew are constantly scrapping and touching up even when they stop at islands to let guests off. its never ends 24/7.

It's amazing how fast they rust. I remember being on the Fantasy and literally almost every stop some crew member was painting some portion of it. I'd imagine it's possible to make a ship out of stainless steel to keep the ship looking pristine but the costs wouldn't be worth the trouble, it's cheaper just to spot paint it every day and go to dry dock every 5 years for a fresh coat of paint.

Wow, she looks rough and tired. Beaten and battered and ready to retire. It's sad to see her and her sisters headed to be scrapped. The videos I have seen of the Fantasy, Inspiration, and Imagination headed to Aliaga have been tough to see even though I never sailed on either of the ships. My first ship thus far is the Valor. The music chosen for this video really sets the stage for the evitable to come. It hurts to see the Fantasy being scrapped, but I must admit fascinating (no pun intended) to see how the process works. RIP Ladies. You served your time well and at least 4 sisters will be together again.

She isn't being scrapped like her sisters. She is sold to a company who will use her for another purpose.

@@toothbrush0420 I was thinking that the rust that can be seen is probably from just the past 6 months for the most part. It would never sail looking like that, people wouldn't perceived it as being safe. Salt eats some shit up.

It's a little hard to tell because this appears to be at faster than real time, but the wind is howling. Note the flags on the ship. The engine is obviously running as you see exhaust from the funnel, but it wouldn't have been safe for Fascination to dock under her own power. That won't be an issue at her next stop, as she is headed to Aliaga, Turkey in October.
