A decade later after getting to know Eli, I think what he did on draft day, standing up to AJ Smith (who is a jerk), standing up to the entire league and saying, "My Life, My Career," WAS AWESOME. He's not a spoiled brat. He's a man fully aware of what was going down and unafraid to stand up. If you believe strongly in something, to hell with what's always be done. Go for it. Any Giants fan who is lukewarm about Eli because of draft day is an old fart. He brought you to the highest levels of glory. Watch these "elite" QBs fall every year trying to do what Eli did twice. Rival teams are terrified Jerry Reese will figure out how to construct a roster that can compete in the post season because of one reason only: Eli Manning.

But when you compare him to his contemporaries there is no way you can say he is a hofer for sure...boarder line...yes. and he will get in eventually and deservingly so. But he is no slam dunk guaranteed Hofer. He is in the same group as Warner, Romo,Newton, Vick, McNabb, Palmer, Flacco, Rothlesberger, Rivers, and far and below Peyton, Favre, Rodgers, Brady, Brees....he is in the hall of very very good but not a hofer in my opinion. 2 Superbowl wins (over NE) and his consecutive games streak may get him in...but he was never the best QB in any year he played...hell he was in the top 10 most of his career but that's about it...I personally like Eli but he is a very boarder line Hofer

@@tomknapp6194 a below average QB beat the best QB of all time 2 times in the Super Bowl so I don’t care!
@tomknapp6194 Жыл бұрын
@@M45T3RCH13F54 Did he? In 2007 and 2011, the Patriots were averaging 37 and 32 points each game through the regular season. Then Eli puts up 17 and 19 points and wins in narrow games and that makes him the hero? Eli literally had to rely on multiple pro bowl QBs to have one of his worst games of the season to barely win 5/8 games. And 2 of them went to overtime in which Eli was a combined 3/7, 17 yards, 1 sack for -10, yards. So, 7 attempts for 7 yards. And he literally did nothing on either game winning drive,, because they both started inside the 30 on turnovers, but was given credit for having one. The Giants defense allowed an average of 15.1 points/game, no game over 20 points, and an opposing passer rating of 74. What QB can't beat that? That was almost Eli. If those 8 teams just put up their average for the year, Eli would have gone 2-6. Beating the Bucs by less than a point and the '11 Packers by 2. That's it. In 2007, in the regular season, the Cowboys, Packers, and Patriots put up an average of 37 points against the Giants. Then in the playoffs, none of them can put up over 20 and when Eli wins a narrow game, despite putting up fewer points than those blowouts, he's the hero? That really needs to be explained. Eli owes everything from both postseasons to the defense. It was them, not Eli, that won those games.

I don't care if people think Eli was selfish for not wanting to play for the Chargers. At least he spoke his mind up front, and backed it up is the most important part. Also, Rivers was the best thing to happen to San Diego since LT and Antonio Gates. Not hating the Chargers are always a strong team and us Giants have our struggling years...but that's not without 2 spectacular years with 2 SB Rings and 2 SB MVPS :) People hate hardcore, but he is the best Manning. Even though Peyton has the records...Eli took no names and made them look great and he has off years but it's not his fault 100% he's learning a new offense but his skill has always been there. His smartness is overlooked and I'll always have confidence in him. I'm sure he has not one but 2 more rings left. And if he gets those without Tom winning any more, he will go down as a Top 3 QB of all time. Admit it, nobody expected him to flourish this well...I sure as hell didn't! I graduated High School the year he was drafted and I thought he was such a nerd and I was such a Peyton Manning fan to the core that I was pissed we had a smaller version of Peyton. I wrote him off ALMOST, but fast forward to 2006 and I started getting more into the Giants and watching every minute of the games and I noticed he had that charge in him and balls to take chances and with the protection he had back then he came through in the clutch on multiple occasions. I became a big fan in 2006, and then 2007 happened and all I have to say is 18-1. Thank you, GO NYG BIG BLUE WRECKING CREW FOREVER!!!!

Wes Steinfeld Well, don't forget a lot of it had to do with Archie. The short answer is that Archie knows a teensy bit about what it takes to win and SD didn't have it. And he was right. He was the one behind Eli's choices. And good for him, I say. If you've got a resource like that, use it.

+kayper54 Is interesting how Archie steered Eli to New York rather than San Diego. Longtime Giants fan who never read much of anything on that decision. He knew Eli could handle the pressure of the New York Market. He knew Eli would be working with Coach Coughlin as opposed to Marty Shottenheimer in SD. Don't know long the San Diego franchise has been viewed as one that could be moving but the Giants weren't going anywhere. Twelve years in he's produced two SB Victories and MVPS and five playoff years. Last two years were two of his best seasons and so the future looks very bright. Thank you Eli and thank you Archie.

***** Eli has better numbers in a more pass happy era and the fact that he has two SB victories to Phil's one plays into why Eli will leave as the Franchises best QB. Eli was more durable than Phil Simms. Phil was having a fine 11-3 1990 regular season when he got hurt and never made it out to the Giants second SB Title. The Sims guy you mentioned was a Lions' running back and isn't in the conversation.

Idan Solon But unfortunately, the Chargers were both winners and losers in the Eli Manning-Philip Rivers trade. The Bolts were winners because they had three players who had successful regular seasons, but the Bolts were also losers because Rivers has yet to lead the Chargers to a Super Bowl appearance while Nate Kaeding choked in the postseason and Shawne Merriman faded in his last three years after having 39.5 sacks in his first three years.

Not really, Rivers generally had better offensive support than Eli had and they each played in different system which can affect the numbers. Rivers for the most part didn't help himself in the postseason even if you can excuse 2008 playoffs as he was hurt but even then there's was no guarantee he would have done much better healthy.

Giants fans are so salty. "Eli sucks we should cut him!" He has won you guys 2 super bowls against the same team. You do not do that!

+TaurusReborn RBLX You paint with a real broad brush there. Forever a Giants and an Eli fan and I'm glad I watched this episode. Learned more about Eli the man. He's a fine man.

It's not even his fault it's the defense and the fact that he had no run game

Eli won squat. He was carried by the defense both times.

how long is eli's contract now
@JasonQ879 жыл бұрын
He'll be a free agent in 2016. But will most likely get another extension on his contract.

He will be a Giant for life, the management would never let him go, both Mara and Tisch said they want him to retire as a Giant.

Tyler Bright This is the last year of his deal and his cap hit is like 19 million. Many people thought they would extend him so that they could spread out the cap money.

You know Eli is just dying to have a boy 😂... Love you eli you gave me the best moments throughout my young life and as a young man from us having the same name to giving me and my pops the experience to watch our 1 and only favorite team win not 1 but 2 superbowls. God bless you and your family Eli. Go G MEN!!

I think that Eli, like Kobe Bryant, is happy being a "girl dad". He's such a class act, over and above being an elite NFL QB.

Did Eli win those or the defense. The Patriots were averaging 37 and 32 points per game those seasons. What was so special about Eli's 17 and 19 points that overcame those averages?

Eli did the right thing by not wanting to play for the chargers, he knew that the owner is a cheap baster and that he wasn't going to get any help playing there, just look at Philip rivers. Eli will be a first ballot hall of famer no doubt, he will go down as one of the best QB ever to play the game.

Edwin Ramos = delusional .... eventual HOF maybe - great clutch QB definitely - greatest all time conversation... please stop it

I could put Eli an a group of average QBs and he doesn't make the top 10. How do you think that he's one of the best ever?

Only dude that beat Brady twice in the super bowl man
@tomknapp6194 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the way he held Brady to 23 and 15 points below his season average and still won by 4 or less points was truly amazing! oh, wait.......
