I'm surprised how little advertising Nintendo has done for this game as I would've been completely oblivious if it wasn't for Matt McMuscles coverage of it. Have been having tons of fun with it, though.
@ruekurei883 жыл бұрын
Why would Nintendo advertise this? They own the license for Cruisin’, but they haven’t participated i. The development or publishing of this game. This is a third party game, the video saying first party IP is wrong, Nintendo owns the license for the series, but that’s pretty much it.
@masharulaw3 жыл бұрын
@@ruekurei88 and Cysubtor, the answer is simple: Nintendo only own the software Cruis'n Blast, not the IP or "whole IP". They invested and promoted on the arcade game back in 2017, such port couldn't done without Nintendo's conscent. The IP "Cruis'n" is actually owned by Raw Thriller, the original creators (through a new name). So no, Cruis'n is not a Nintendo IP, officially, similary to Fatal Frame (which Nintendo own the sofwares since the 4th entry on the Wii, not the brand/IP, and there still a lot of confusion about ownership today).
@oscarzxn40673 жыл бұрын
@@masharulaw That's not really true, you can see the copyright of any of the Cruis'n games since the 90's and Nintendo is mentioned as the IP owner in every single one of them, and even if Midway also had part of the ip ownership, they are dead so who cares. For that Raw Thrills (which are not the creators of the series, that's Midway) should have bought the entire Cruis'n IP from Nintendo and that never happened, that's like saying that because Bandai Namco made and published some Mario Karts for Arcade they own Mario. Cruis'n is indeed a Nintendo ip but they never have really done anything with it by themselves (in fact none of the games have been released in Japan) and left Midway, and later Raw Thrills, manage it by themselves making any console port exclusive to Nintendo's consoles.
@masharulaw3 жыл бұрын
@@oscarzxn4067 Sorry but that all false. I'm pretty sure like Jon did on this video, you only saw the copyright on the title screen. Nintendo own the software, because they have produced the original arcade in 2017. But that not mean they own eveything, you know. Check the credits of Cruis'n Blast, you should be surprised (or a little) to learn who really owns the Cruis’n IP. I also invite you to check the ending credits of every Cruis’n games, haha. "Ownership" as a whole especially in video games which include several type of medias, can be complicated for anybody not aware of contracts and other stuff like us people. And a lot of people just confuse between softwares and whole brand, like we saw with the Fatal Frame case. An easy example you should agree and already know by this point: Nintendo does own the Bayonetta 2 game, the software and everything that comes with (the game can not be ported elsewhere without Nintendo’s conscent), but not "Bayonetta" IP as a whole. The same applies here with Cruis'n Blast. As I said, Nintendo own this software (the arcade machine), hence their copyright mention in the title screen. But that all you got. Heck, there is the fact that Nintendo is not the publisher of the game even on the eShop, that should be a red flag for you. Nintendo has published the first 2 N64 versions of the Midway arcades Cruis'n games and if they do own these 2 games as trademark can show that, on the other hand they do not own Cruis'n on the Wii which was originally the Fast & Furious arcade game, Cruis'n Exotica the 3rd entry on N64 and Cruis'n Velocity on Game Boy Color). Midway was closed relationship with Nintendo during the pre-N64 era to highlight the N64 power and capability. By the way, Raw Thrills was created from ex-dev of Midway, by Eugene Jarvis himself. So you're wrong on that part too sorry ^^. Nintendo doesn't own Cruis'n series, saying "the IP is owned by Nintendo, shame on them of doing nothing" is nonsense.
@oscarzxn40673 жыл бұрын
@@masharulaw I understand all what you said and yet I didn't get the point :/, not sure what's the big difference between owning all the Software and I guess the names but not the series, I think what I understand is that this game in particular belongs to Raw Thirlls but Nintendo has some ownership that doesn't allow them to publish it anywhere, kind of like Sega with the Mario & Sonic games or Ubisoft with Mario+ Rabbids, I guess, I don't think is something that important, the game still will not appear in a non Nintendo console, again what I see with that is like saying Nintendo doesn't own the Zelda series because they don't fully own the CDI games and is incorrect that they fully own thething, I don't think that's a very important point at all. In that case the original Cruis'n games don't belong to anyone? Since Road Thrills didn't exist back then and Midway doesn't exist anymore. (edit: I saw the credits and it says that "tm" Nintendo but software owned by Raw Thrills, which seems to be the opposite thing to what you were saying)

There's been a common chorus among reviewers that the absence of online multiplayer is a "shame", but honestly, it's refreshing to see a game like this not waste development resources on an online mode that would have been dead and pointless within weeks anyway. Steam, PSN and the eShop are a graveyard of multiplayer-centric titles who believed that their online modes would keep sales going.
@duffman182 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I fucking hate online games and I hate how many games focus way too much on that at the expense of other modes. The single player game should always take precedence. Because that's how most people play. I absolutely hate playing games online, there's just so much more pressure, it's nervewracking, and you aren't allowed to pause the game to have a sip of your drink or go to the toilet. The only exceptions should be games that are all online. Like things like Fortnite. Or Overwatch. Technically those do have offline modes, but nobody plays them. The online is 100% of the game, basically. And so I just don't play them, because I hate online games. But arcade games like fhis? They should at most have a local multiplayer mode. But other than that, no. The single player should be the focus. Way too many modern racing games put everything into the online mode, and there's nothing left other than that. There's not even a true career mode, all there is is just a list of tracks you play in order. Something like the classic Gran Turismo games, those kind of racing games are super rare these days. It's sad.

@Nintendo Life The only downside is that you don't get to use the cars from the original 2017 version of Cruis'n Blast in the Switch version, especially the Corvette C7, the Hummer HX, & the Lamborghini cars: Aventador, Huracan, Veneno, Countach, & Diablo; similar to the 2020 updates to the arcade ones. Not to mention that the closest thing we'll get to driving Lamborghini Cars in Cruis'n Blast again is driving the Police Cruiser in the Switch game, as it strongly resembles the Veneno. AND, you can still see the Lamborghini Aventador, Corvette C7 Z06, & the Hummer HX on the picture of the game's are cabinet in not just the trailer (seen at 0:57), but when the "Classic Arcade" selection is highlighted in the game's main menu, too. However, hopefully if we can reach Raw Thrills with feedback, we can ask them to add all the 2017 cars (Especially the Corvette C7, Hummer HX, & 5 Lamborghini Cars) to the Switch Game as DLC, along with more new cars & manufacturers (say like Ford, Dodge, etc.), new tracks, new modes like battle races (using power ups similar to Dirty Drivin'), & even all the content (cars, car upgrades, & tracks) from Cruis'n Blast's betas: Cruis'n Adventure & Cruis'n Redline. And another thing, the Corvette C8 should get an UPGRADED spoiler when the body / chassis is upgraded, just like the Corvette C7.

Hugely fun game, picked it up yesterday. Recommended for those that experience fatigue with Mario Kart 8 and want something fresh. Those that enjoy classic arcade racers should consider this a must. My only real gripe here is that the visuals are a bit meh, the aforementioned frame rate is a bit bothersome. The lack of online play is not a major complaint for me, as I live in a rural area, and this sort of game was built for local multiplayer. At $40 you honestly cannot go wrong. A perfect game to enjoy a couple of alcoholic beverages with friends over and a breath of fresh air for the Switch library. 8.5/10.

To follow up here, the fun factor is through the roof. Races last around a minute and a half, there are several unlockables including new vehicles and aesthetic upgrades you can purchase as you level a vehicle up. If you enjoy the likes of Burnout, Mario Kart, and Outrun, or are feeling for the Cruis’n series itself, pick this up as it’s easily the crown jewel of the Cruis’n franchise. It’s a shame there aren’t more games that celebrate the spirit of arcade racing. Now, if only Nintendo would resurrect F-Zero.

I have mixed feelings about Cruisin' Blast. Seeing some of the set pieces and over the top jumps and drops in the game reminds me of ExciteTruck which is awesome. I was happy to hear that in the review as well as the Rush series which Cruisin' made me think of Rush 2049. ExciteTruck though, featured some great track design, great sense of speed and insane jumps similar to what's presented in Cruisin and it had motion controls that worked really well for the game on top of it all. More of that type of gameplay is a good thing as ExciteTruck/ExciteBots hasn't gotten any love in years. On the flip side, I'm not a fan of the art direction in Cruisin' Blast. The crazy neon colors with the track designs is a turn off and the general color palette is a saturated overload to my eyes. It doesn't help that I recently saw Asphalt 9 Legends run on the Switch which did Cruisin' Blast no favors. Cruisin just makes me want a HD re-release of ExciteTruck with motion control.
