Another factor for me is the embarkation port. If travel costs to the port are too expensive, the destinations don’t matter.

I'm looking forward to your cococay video as I remember the OG one and that's around the time I recall subscribing to your channel. I've been there a few times since the refurb (and once before) and in general I'm happy with the changes as there's a LOT more things to do now. It can however feel a bit more like a waterpark island vs a private island though.. if that makes sense (2 ships now, lots more people, lots more upcharges available) but we still manage to have a good time! As for cruises.. I look at all the factors like ship, route and importantly the cost lol. We aren't cheap but we do like to try and get the best value for our vacation dollars 😅

I think it depends on why you are traveling and what you are looking for. If Alaska is on your bucket list and you really want to go, you can't have Margaritaville at sea budget. It simply doesn't exist. Of course there is a range of pricing within Alaskan cruises and that's were your budget comes into play. Different ships, itineraries, and even the embarkation port can be selected to find something in your budget, but you may have to skip a must do. If this is going to be that once in a life time trip to Alaska, maybe those must do items are worth increasing the budget or delaying the trip to save up more money.

Here's my general vacation planning process: 1. Decide when and what region I want to travel to, based on work schedule, the weather, and any special events. 2. Decide if land tour, cruise, booking hotels on my own, or a combination of those would be the best way to see that place. 3. Start searching for specific cruises, hotels, or tours. I usually go for cheaper accommodations and more expensive meals and activities. 4. Book flights and accommodations. When it comes to cruises, itenerary is the most important, followed by food and entertainment. On my ideal cruise, I'm mainly using the ship as a place to eat breakfast and dinner, watch a show, and sleep, while being in port all day.

We only cruise Celebrity or Princess. Then we choose location, then we look at ship size (we like the older smaller ones), then we look at price. If the price is too high, we got back to location, ship, price and keep rotating through that until we find the one we want. And of course sailing from Canada in winter to Caribbean, location (meaning which island) doesn't matter. We just look at ship and cost, mostly cost.

After our last cruise of 16 days (Panama Canal), we realized we want to get as much cruise as we can for our money. I actually made a chart with cost per person per night. My husband loves a balcony, so I have to take that into account (so many cruises have a low price for inside cabins, but double that for balconies). We are therefore booked to sail on our first transatlantic cruise in November. It is 14 nights out of Miami. Next year we hope to sail at least 21 nights! However, we also don't want to repeat too many ports - there is just too much of the world to see! Finally, we do take into account the length of the flights involved - we are getting older! This cruise will let us know how we do with the possibly rougher seas, and how we are with flights of 8 hours or more.

My wife and I are only coming up on our second cruise but after price, we do value good food options more than almost anything else. Give us somewhere to look over the water and something decent to eat and we can let a lack of on board activities slip. Like yourself, the budget is #1 for us. If we can not find a cruise to a location we like that is within that budget, we do not book. With our normal bookings being 18 months to 24 months in advance, we usually are able to make the 2 lines on the graph cross with no problem. Next one will put us at #55 and we are now D+ on Royal. We have done other lines, but we really like the overall feeling of Royal Caribbean.

For us, the most important part of selecting a cruise is when the cruise sails. Our first cruise was on our honeymoon 20 years ago. So, each year we like to celebrate our anniversary on a cruise. Since we got married on Valentine’s Day, there is an extra special feeling reliving the experience. Speaking of experience… we also select a cruise based on an “all inclusive” feel. If we are going to be “nickled and dimed”, we would just stay home. So, we select a cruise like Princess where we can use the Plus or Premier option and not worry about what we eat or drink.

We love your videos Morgan...We pretty much have an open budget and we look at destinations first then try for less kids. Moms who knowingly let there kids run wild are my biggest gets to me problem. They drop off their kids and disappear. I can't tell you how many times I've asked kids where's their parents and they say i dont know or they say there at dinner. We like Newer ships and we don't go stupid crazy on room selection. We always take an ocean view large balcony room or a Jr Suite is as high end as we go. We splurged once and took the Royal Suite on RCL and while it was beautiful I wouldn't do it again. 15K just for the room itself for 7 days is just stupid. Would I do that again...No probably not but I wanted to try it. We don't stay in the room much we like to party and we stay up late to about midnight late for us and just have as much fun as possible. We pretty much are giving up RCL because of all the kids everywhere especially in the spas. Royal Caribbean has pretty much turned into a kids are us cruise line now. Pretty soon it'll be kids only cruise line were you drop off your kids like summer camp and say goodbye while they go on a cruise and you go back home. You can't even think of going into the spa on RC unless you go to the adult only area and even there moms always manage to sneak in their kids into the spas and by the time they get kicked out their kids have already done their business in the spa. We've since switched to princess and just today booked a cruise to New York on the enchanted princess. We do our next cruise to Spain in 50 days on oasis of the seas it's a transatlantic cruise Barcelona to Florida in 14 days. First transatlantic for us so we'll see. I booked that cruise last year. My wife is a foodie and yes she likes her upscale restaurants and ultimate drink package but for me I could eat in the MDR or buffet every night or pizza and be just fine but she likes it so I do it. I look at it this way...we cruise about 5X a year and for us it's the destination. We like going to new places. We have Italy in 3 months transpacific for 21 days Italy to Hawaii and I'm really looking forward to that cruise as well. It's all about fun for us. We watch a ton of cruise videos on KZbin before we go to get familiar with the ship and cruise ports so we kinda have an idea of what we're doing and that works for us.

First factor is time. In two ways: when and how long. Vacation planning at work is done in December-January for the whole year. Then I prefer a bit longer cruises where possible. Then is the destination. Have I been there before? How long would be the flight or can I travel by train? Note: the same general area but with other ports would be ok. Then is the price. Of course I would like to see Antarctic but when the flight alone adds 2000+€ that’s unfortunately a no for me. With cruise line is not important for me. That’s the reason that the upcoming cruise on new year will be the seventh cruise on the fifth cruise line

In the early-to-mid 1990's when our sons were young (on our first cruise, they were only 2 and 6), good kids' programs were paramount. That resulted in us taking a handful of cruises on Carnival and NCL. But once our sons became teenagers, the kids' programs were less important, and our focus shifted to finding cruises that offered us the right combination of price, itinerary, and an on-board vibe that matches our own. For us, since 2000, those cruises have predominantly been with Princess, on which we have already taken 35 cruises to bucket-list places all over the world. We also really enjoy Celebrity and will be taking our 4th cruise with them later this year. Our sons (now 36 and 40) have also continued to cruise quite extensively on Princess and also a bit on Celebrity. We are now also thinking of trying Virgin and HAL. I know, could there be two lines more different from one another? LOL. But they both would offer us many of the same perks that our Princess top loyalty level affords us, as well as a bonus of having either NO or very few children on board (even during "high season") -- and that is important to us.
@VeryunOfficialTravelGuides3 ай бұрын
Does Princess offer perks for frequent cruisers? What are some of the good things you get after 35 cruises with them?

@@VeryunOfficialTravelGuides You get some perks after completing 3 cruises or 30 sea days, a whole bunch of valuable perks after completing 5 cruises or 50 sea days (most, importantly, a 50% discount on wifi packages) and then, after completing 15 cruises or 150 sea days - what Princess calls their Elite Level - you get the biggies. What Elite level cruisers still get (after post-covid cutbacks) is: FREE UNLIMITED laundry and shoe polishing; complimentary minibar with 10 mini-alcohol bottles (or beer) and 10 sodas/water (you can freely change out the particular components); 50% discount on wifi packages (we USED to get FREE 250 minutes pp); enhanced level of vacation protection if vacation protection is purchased; 10% discount in the onboard shops, spa and on excursions; priority embarkation with dedicated Elite Lounge in terminal with coffee, juices and pastries; priority tender embarkation; nightly dedicated lounge with hors d'oeuvres; free wine tasting event; “deluxe” (?) canapé selection to stateroom on formal nights; priority disembarkation from dedicated lounge with coffee, juices and pastries. We also USED to get an additional OBC depending on how many cruises you have sailed ($25 per cruise once at 21 cruises, $50 per cruise once at 31 cruises, etc. until you maxed out at $100 per cruise for having 51 cruises), BUT that perk (along with the free wifi) was eliminated after covid re-start. Princess (and all CCL brand cruise lines) also offers an OBC for shareholders of CCL stock with the amount dependent on length of cruise $50 for less than 7 days, $100 for 7-13 days and $250 for 14 days or longer. That can be stacked with OBC for veterans (Americans and Canadians only) in the very same amounts with the same parameters (for example, $250 for 14 days or more). So because I'm both a veteran and a shareholder, I always start every 7 day cruise with at least $200 in OBC.

For my family there are 4 main considerations when looking at cruises. 1. Timing (no school holidays, good weather) 2. Ship size (no mega ships for us) 3. Food quality. 4. Cruise line/demographics We are mobility challenged seniors who want to relax, get around easily on our scooters, and enjoy good quality food included in the fare. I like to get off the ship in port to buy souvenirs and maybe take a no walking bus/tram tour. We don't really do the beach, sun bathing is not for us (hubby had a melanoma removed) and sand is impossible to take a scooter on. The only real destination specific cruise i would take is to Alaska (to see wildlife, and scenery), or maybe up the Eastern North American coast to Canada (lobster, lobster, lobster) The demographics are important too. Few children, few drunks, no fights, people our age or older. We don't need or want to sail on an amusement park.

What’s important to me if traveling with my daughter. Budget, Activities, accommodations for my autistic daughter. If I’m traveling Solo; the most important is budget, dining options, the spa, relaxation and live music. 😊👍

Hey Joy, is there one ship so far that you felt had the best mix of everything your daughter needs?

@@VeryunOfficialTravelGuides oh that’s a good question. And it not a ship but a cruise line. NCL has always gone above and beyond. They have a one on one persona with Lydia(my daughter) to make sure she has a great time. Even making sure her dietary needs are met no matter where we are having a meal. They provide a grass patch so her service dog 🐕🦺 had a place to go. And so much more. I even had time to relax 🧘 they took such good care of her. Lydia said her favourite NCL ship so far was “Joy”.

I’m confused why the jubilee changing dining is getting a reaction at all other than an FYI. They’ve done this to every single XL class ship so far. This isn’t something new and random. The Mardi Gras and the celebration both did this a year or 2 ago.
