As someone not prone to seasickness, I adored our extended aft balcony cabin on the Carnival Pride. We chose a deck with nothing but cabins above and below, and it was so quiet! No kids running up and down the hallways, when you're all the way at the back. 😎

We book balcony because I want as much natural light as I can get, I don’t book suites because I know people who have been injured getting out of baths due to rough seas, I feel more secure using a shower on a ship.

Have never booked a inside or oceanview stateroom, always go balcony. Simple as that way you can step out and get fresh air or just see what you are in for when sailing into port. Great for those times you just want to sit and relax and listen to the ocean as well.

I usually cruise solo, so I tend to book the cheapest interior rooms possible. My last cruise I actually booked a single-occupancy interior stateroom with just a twin bed. It was tiny but perfect for me, as I'm only in the room to sleep and shower. I have also stayed in rooms overlooking the Royal Promenade - the promenade window let in enough ambient light to keep the room from feeling too dark and claustrophobic, and don't recall any major noise disruptions at night.

Our usual choice is a mid ship balcony cabin; however, we had an ocean view cabin on deck 5 of the NCL Dawn for 15 days on a recent cruise around the UK. The price was considerably lower than the balcony our friends had and due to the weather they didn’t use their balcony very much. Of the 5 cruises we have booked this year, 4 were balcony. We compared the balcony to ocean view cabins and took into consideration the itinerary before choosing.

Hey Ben. We’ve been by many elevators and no noise. When looking at the decks; don’t recall seeing crew access areas. We prefer mid but seasickness not an issue. Can stay forward aft or mid. Balcony and spa balcony our choice. If numerous cruises in a yr; will squeeze in an ocean window view. Obstructed not a big deal. Like the fresh air. We’ve sailed a Central Park view and have seen some sights 😂. Thanks for the insight.

Hi Ben. Well we can add that if you suffer from the "Motion of the Ocean, Inebriation won't make it any better - It can only make it much worse " Where your cabin is located will pale in comparison, if you are a binge and puke cruiser, your cabin will rock and roll even if the ship is barely moving !! When Emma cruised on Symphony is Europe she noted that her cabin faced the inner boardwalk, BEHIND the smoke stacks, and there was always soot on her balcony, so you might add that to your list. Stay away from cabins that will collect soot and dirt from the exhaust system of the ship.

I agree with all of these excellent tips! I once booked a cheap cabin on deck 4 which was just above the main crew thoroughfare. The noise was so awful my friend and I had to buy earplugs on the ship so we could maybe get some sleep. Come prepared if this is where your next cabin is located!

I'd warn people against certain Oceanview cabins where the window provides natural light but not necessarily a good, convenient view of the ocean. I've seen cabins where the window is placed over the bed such that you'll need to be ON TOP of the bed (if configured as a queen/king bed) in order to get a good look out the window. Also, beware the forward facing Oceanview cabins that give you a better view of the helipad than they do the ocean.

We always book a verandah stateroom but we have a 14-night Panama Canal cruise coming up and we decided to book an ocean view stateroom because the price was double for a balcony by the time we were booking (fairly short notice). That was just too much for us right now. Planning to find nice places in public areas where I can chill outside.

I'm looking to book my first cruise for sometime next year and I know I want to try to get an ocean view cabin because I want to be able as close to the surface of the water as I can be and be able to look out at the ocean while relaxing. While a room with a balcony would be great I'm a solo traveler so that sort of room would be a bit out of my budget plus I have a bit of a fear of heights so not too sure how often I'd want to go out on the balcony.

Generally when we book we just end up with a guarantee until closer to the time, then we find out what cabin we actually get. Sometime we've been disappointed in the location and one mini suite which was expensive was directly above the theatre. The doof doof of the bass in the music was thrumming through the floor usually until 10.45 pm. To say we were disappointed wasn't a stretch. It was a 28 day cruise as well. We've had almost all of the types of rooms you've mentioned through the course of our cruising life but generally we don't complain and just make the most of it. These days we get balconies and suites and even then, like I have mentioned above we can land in a noisier spot. We've booked with the same agent for years and at times her hands are tied.

I had a cabin on deck 5 front on Norwegian star the last time I took a cruise . Anyway in the bay of biscay there was several large banging noises and vibrations. I helped the crew try to locate the location of the banging noise this was at midnight after I made a complaint. A stairway was the other side of My cabin wall not a crew service area . With the ships frame between my cabin and the staircase . It did not feel me with confidence that it seemed that something was banging against the ships frame. Or worse that something may have come loose. No cruises booked for the foreseeable future.

We were recently on the Jewel of the Seas and our balcony was so small that we couldn't use it. Due to a curvature in the side of the ship, there are four cabins with this problem. Study the deck plans CAREFULLY before choosing.

Usually we book a balcony or mini suite midship or mid aft deck nine and always with cabins above and below us. However, we have been on Allure of the Seas 5 times, including the Mediterranean Transatlantic, Oasis of the Seas and Harmony of the seas, where we booked the balcony overlooking the Boardwalk. We love to sit on the balcony and look out at the back of the ship and see the ocean as well as the port when docked, watch the shows at the aqua theater, watch the people zip lining and watch the movies under the stars. There is only so much sea watching one can handle on a cruise, especially on a 12 day transatlantic or 4-5 day transpacific, so we would prefer to see the hustle and bustle of the Boardwalk and even though there are cabins directly across from ours, we usually wave at each other and go about our business. In fact, the Boardwalk is relatively quiet, unlike the Central Park area at the mid front of the ship. We made the mistake on the inaugural of Allure to book a balcony over Central Park, where we thought it would be calm, relaxing and able to hear the jazz band playing at night; however, we soon learned it was a mistake because the pools are on deck 15 and it is very noisy.

Im lucky enough to easily afford any type of cabin but i use my stateroom as bed so why would i spend more than the minimum if i wont be in the cabin at all? For the space/cost you get on a ship its stupid to pay that much for so little space. Last year in ireland we got a suite for 200 dollar and it was like 5 times the size of the biggest cruise ship cabin. Travel smart dont waste money just because you can afford to 😂😂😂

I am in process of booking RCCL Christmas cruise. Outside view, the room is at the very front of the ship facing forward. I saw in another of your videos this might come with vibrations pulling in and out of ports. Is this really bad? The room is on deck 6, Adventure of the Seas.
