@Not the tax cost, it’s the principal. I’m already paying out to HAL 9k per person, specialty dining, 2 Neptune Suites for 4 of us. It is a holiday cruise and since we live in San Diego we skip airfare which is nice and saves money but I still have excursions to book! . We watch all these cruising KZbin channels, seems like once a month someone is reporting some type of cost hike taking place and effecting cruise passengers. Companies should slowly bring in new fees like 5-10 bucks at a time (some will still complain) until target goal is hit. This way passengers like me will accept increases easier. So yes 45 bucks or any covid restrictions added can make me think about changing our itinerary. PS, we get the Elite Drink package every time we sail. 😆

If Mexico passes that fee I won't return to Mexico. Since we're so close to Galveston, we can do last minute sailings for fairly cheap. This would remove the entire draw of the last minute vacation. I'm also sure Royal with Perfect day Mexico and the Cozumel beach club would be thrilled by lack of passengers.

I feel the same way about the Caribbean islands. They are all the same despite different countries who used to occupy them. Very little in the way of things to do especially for those of us where are lucky enough to live in Florida with our own beautiful beaches. I am headed out next week on a 10 day HAL cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale. The ship itself will be the destination. Going with a friend I have not seen since before Covid. There is nothing I need in the way of shopping, it’s all a bunch of junk and totchkes. The islands used to sell unique upper end jewelry but one only needs so much of that and now everything is mass produced. It’s not special anymore. With regard to the Mexican fee….is that per passenger in each separate Mexican port or once you’ve paid your $42.00 at your initial Mexican port, are you done?

For a once in a lifetime experience, the compensation was not enough. I can only speak for myself, but I think the popularity behind Mexican cruises are that they were so affordable, once you take that off the table , It’s not the popular destination they think it is. Especially since there has been such an increase in crime. I do think a lot of cruises would appreciate visiting other ports in the Caribbean.
