MSC Drink Packages 2022. I REGRET not knowing this beforehand

We used the Easy package + minors package when we sailed on MSC a couple of years ago, and it was great value to us. For the kids to always have access to drinks in hot weather, to be able to pick up bottled water in the bar and bring it on your excursions, to get a glass of wine or two for dinner and some simple drinks whenever. (On our cruise we were even gifted some drinks not included in our package from bartenders in more empty locations that liked our company).And, important for us, the package gave us access to more versions of coffee. We are sailing MSC again over christmas, and took the same package again.

Just off a cruise with NCL and heading for an RCCL cruise next month and MSC next year. One very important thing to note is that on NCL if you order a drink over the price limit you ONLY pay the difference on NCL and I think RCCL too but MSC is the full price!

@@daviddubinsky1281 We have sailed both lines multiple times (NCL again in April 2023 and MSC World Europa in Oct 2023 amongst our other ones) and both are very good packages indeed. MSC is only an issue if you want something outside of the package and there it can be a bit pants but as long as you are aware of the full price issue it’s easy to avoid. I mentioned it as those who cruise a lot will be more used to RCCL, NCL etc policies of the different in the price plus grat rather than the full price so some do get caught out.

If Id have booked after initial booking but before cruising here are the current prices from the UK for med cruises (per night) - Premium £56, Easy - £29, Easy pus £40, alchol free £21. As you say if you book on board that will be 15% more

I do not drink alcohol, and not even a mocktail a year. I am going on a 20 day cruise with MSC and the only package I can buy (non alcoholic) costs $520. 😳 Not a chance I will buy that. I can use that money for eating at specialty restaurants, going on excursions etc. I will drink tap water, juice, coffee and tea for free and occasionally buy a soda now and then.

Nope. You have to purchase it for the length of the cruise. Cruise lines just advertise the package per person per day since every cruise has different lengths.

Tap water will be provided at the buffet and MDRs, there are also flavored waters at the buffet. In the MDR and Buffet you can also find iced tea, and lemonade. In the AM, for breakfast there is juice. Coffee and hot tea is also available (non specialty)

Many cruise lines do allow for exceptions to the must purchase a drink package. Some are more lax than others. MSC is more hardline. If your wife is a recovering alcoholic or pregnant I have seen them give exceptions. Best thing to do is call when booking. And keep calling till you get a customer service representative that’s the most forgiving.

MSC often runs promos for “free drinks and WiFI” at booking. That’s the best way to purchase a drink package on any cruise line. These are a La carte pricing if you did not our could not purchase a bundle at time of booking.

Some allow medical/religious exceptions but force you to purchase a non-alcoholic package if they forgo the requirement. My wife is not a big drinker as well, but she does get value here and there with the specialty coffees, sodas, water and her drink or two a day, plus her favorite virgin frozen drinks.

Purchasing the package is sort of a game you play. If you can drink x amount of drinks a day, and if the price of those drinks exceed the price per day for the package, you can save money. Just make sure you don’t put yourself in doing something you are not comfortable with to make the package worth it. If your drinking habits don’t make the package worth it, then just purchase the drinks when you want them. A La carte. As for the non drinker, unfortunately MSC makes them purchase the same package. MSC has the same free drink options as all the other cruise lines. Tap water, iced tea, lemonade. Coffee hot tea, milk and juice during breakfast and some flavored waters in the buffet during lunch and dinner.

MSC do have wine by the glass on the list. It is the only way to get wine and varies by the bar which is why its not on lists. A limited choice for sure but 2-3 white or reds. Sometimes a bar will have 1-2 choices

It’s probably a monkey see monkey do thing. None of the cruise lines do not include mini bar in their packages. The reason? My only guess is that it’s too easy to “share” and hand off drinks to others from your “included” mini bar. But this is just a guess.

For me the Easy Plus has always been the best value for money over last 2 cruise with MSC with the 3rd one planned in about a month. Had taken the premium package before that, but I felt it was underutilized and did not get the worth for the extra money. It was probably our choice of drinks or our habit, but most of what we wanted was in the Easy Plus.

@@GlobalAdventurer If I was you, see if the sailing offer Drinks and Wifi Included fares. The price difference between the promo fare and a base fare + Easy Package is usually not much different and you then get the better drink package and WiFi for a much smaller upcharge. If the sailing does not offer a Drink and Wifi Included promo, I would probably stick with the easy package based on your drinking habits.

MSC has something called My Choice dining style. Similar to freestyle. Just make sure you reserve your time when you board to avoid waiting for a table.

They classify all bears. Some are in the easy plus there are about 20 to choose from. Premium is the only one that includes all the beer options on board.

Ive been on the MSC Vituosa twice. The cocktails are shockingly bad. Why pour top shelf booze into the cheapest mixers on earth. Other than that is great. Top shelf drinks £26 per day.

Thanks for the video it's extremely informative. 1 question I'm not sure if you can answer. We're picking up our cruise in Europe. Do you know if the charges on board are in Euros, Dollars or both? Also, we love the casino, and wish to know if the this is in Euros, or dollars? From what I've read, it depends upon where the ship is departing..i.e. If it departs in Europe, then the currency is in Euros, same for departures in North America, i.e. Dollars...not sure if you can validate? So fresh squeezed juices on MSC are 1, hard to find. They are usually only available in the spa area, yacht club, and only on a few ships in the MDR during breakfast. And they are only included with the highest premium extra package. If you drink specialty coffee, sodas and mocktails throughout the day you can recoup the price. A couple of coffees will run you about 10.00 per day. 3 sodas a day anther 10. Add in a mocktail and you are even. So not too much to break even.

The other 3 tiers match yours. And my booking confirmation lists something about all inclusive drink package as part of Aurea experience but I think I've read that has been discontiuned. Depending on the cost of the fresh squeezed juice, it should be included in all the packages as long as the amount for the juice is less then the max per drink allows for the package. Just be sure to ask for fresh squeezed juice and the venue has it available to them.

That is true. MSC has a weird requirement that everyone in a linked booking for dinner must have the same beverage package. It's a horrible requirement if you ask me.

The drinks under six for the easy package is a pre selected list of drinks. It’s on menus through the ship. I would highly recommend looking at the easy plus package. It’s a whole lot less limiting.

If you buy the package and you go to the bar or restaurant, how do they know you have a drink package ? Do you have a special wristband or card to show them? And if you do what’s stopping you for giving a person without the drink package the card or wristband to get a drink ?

You will hand them your cruise card which will indicate that you have the drink package to the crew and the bartender when they swipe it to charge. You basically get a zero dollar bill for it from the swipe. There is nothing to stop you passing off your card to someone else, but you can only order one drink in a given amount of time.. I think its like 5 minutes. But if they catch you you can lose your drink package privilege with no refund.

MSC doesn't produce a specific brand list for their packages unfortunately. From my experience the well spirits that are included in the easy plus package are decent, but don't expect much unless you are on the premium plus package.

MSC has no limits on the number of drinks per day. The prices quoted on the video is the cost per person per night. You must purchase for the entire length of the cruise. So for example. The price of the easy plus is around 50.00 per person per day. For a 7N cruise that would be 350.00 per person for the package.

Was on MSC cruise in December from Floriday Drinks were good, no many people even left tips for them, Casino on ship is very small tables are set that you lose, no Poker which is big loss, and last on last Day around 5am wooman jumped and killed herself, they do not package liquor on ship correctly so later if you try to go through airport security they will take your liquor away HA, asked attendant for bathroom rob he never brought me one ha. Shows were good! 10+ restaurant on the ship get very bad grade for food is tasteless, tapenyaki sushi was very good $30.00

Yea I have seen less and less people tip extra. Yea. The tip is included in the package, but I still throw the server or bartender a buck every drink. I have heard the same about the food. I’m thinking about doing MSC but only in the Yacht Club to hopefully get a better dining experience in the restaurant there. Sorry to hear about the woman. That’s always sad to here. Casinos on all cruise lines have much worse odds for they players vs land casinos. I usually just avoid them or maybe play a little craps. But that’s about it.

As long as you are not leaving from NYC or Texas, you can start using your package on day one. You might have to pay some tax but it will be minimal.

If you are cruising out of a US port, you are also charged sales tax while you are in port.

Perhaps you weren’t charged meals tax in port on embarkation day, but that’s Florida law. And once MSC starts sailing out of NYC, bear in mind NY law does not allow alcohol sales on embarkation day.

I went on the msc app to buy an easy package and two kids packages. It's advising me to pay the equivalent price of the easy, but the two kids packages don't appear to be counted in the total. Is this just a discount for buying ahead of time, or is there a glitch? I don't want to purchase if it's going to cause an issue later.

This seems to be a glitch in the App. I would either use the website or try calling MSC directly. If booked with a Travel Agent have them get on the phone with MSC and process your drink package for you.

Not allowed to share a drink package. MSC will force race person to purchase a package if one person wishes to purchase. It is unlimited. No daily limit. You need to purchase the package for the whole cruise. No single day package.

I just love the NCL free at see package and just paying the tip for the drink package. I looked at other cruise lines but so far NCL just gets all my business. Someday ill try another cruise line but proabably when a family member makes me join their crusie.

I love NCL as well but I do love to value cruise as well and sometimes the NCK sail-a-way fares just don’t compete with the no package prices from The other lines. But if you are looking to purchase a drink package, NCL has very competitive pricing.

Yeah NCL is the best deal on that package by far AND unlike MSC and some others if you want a drink over $15 they subtract the $15 from the cost but with MSC you pay the full price ☹️

One question I have about this (sorry if this has already been asked), is what happens if I want a more expensive drink than is applicable to my drinks package? For example, on RC (at least when I last sailed with them 5 years ago), let's say I was entitled to drinks up to $9 and I wanted a $12 drink, they would take my drinks package and just charge me the difference of $3. There may even have been a slight discount on the differences I can't remember now. But P&O, for example, would charge me full price minus 20% if it's not included in my package. Obviously in these scenarios the RC pricing model is leaps and bounds ahead of P&O's but I'd love to know where MSC sit.

The comment that the drink package doesn't change price is no longer valid. I booked cruise for May 2023 in November 2022. Premium Drink package was initially $420 range, then was increased to $480 range and is now $580 range even though we are still more than 60 days out. So it is probably best to book as soon as you are able to get lowest price. I figured no point in giving them my money early, but the price increases make me regret that.

The comment was more based on the fact that MSC does not employ a dynamic pricing model like Royal Caribbean. But you are correct about the fact that the cruise line can make a decision to increase package prices when they need to. It use to be a rare event before the crazy inflation we have been dealing with the past year. I will make sure that I make this more clear in my next video. Some MSC fares do include a WIFI and Drinks package. But if you don’t have one of those fares and you do want a drink or two (of the alcoholic variety) plan on some charges on your shipboard account or think about purchasing a drink package pre cruise.

Hi Gina. Unfortunately everyone needs to buy an alcohol package if you are of legal drinking age if one person wants a package. The alcohol packages do include everything in the non alcohol package. It’s more money but it is what it is.
