Piano definitly has a nice sound but something about Electric Piano, it makes such cool music, and it is great when it comes to playing soft songs for sleep, etc. I think Electric to me, is better than Original Piano. Of course, nothing could replace the classic, but Electic is definitely better for certain things more than the average Piano.

Empster And Pals they are definitely two different beasts. The classic Wurlitzer and Rhodes sounds are so inspiring for funk and r&b type stuff, and as much as I cherish the acoustic grand piano, (especially Yamaha conservatories), it can’t do for me what electric pianos can, and vice versa.

Sounds ok. Surprised it is as light as it is. I think only the player would know any difference from an original. Unlikely the audience would. I've owned 5 Stage Rhodes in the 1970s. All sounded different from each other. Usually (always) voicings and action where not consistent on any one of them. Used them on gigs 6 or 7 nites a week. Usually 1 or 2 weeks in one club, then move. They only lasted me about 2 years apiece. Constant maintenance. I could keep them working but was no expert. O yeah, Mark 1 Stage Rhodes weighs about 138 pounds. I lived on a third floor apt for awhile. The Rhodes sounds today on even the low end stuff blows away any of my real ones. But its like a B3. If you want a real one anything else probably won't do. Sounds in this are limited to 7. A rack mount tone generator (they still call them that?) can make up the difference.

Amazing that an electric piano can produce so many varied sounds. I guess it contains effect pedals akin to those used for electrid guitar. I'd thought, only a synthesizer can produce some of those sounds; turns out, synthesizers recreate the sounds of electric pianos when they sound like that.

There are people willing to carry a heavy device for just one type of sounds and there are people who can do it all on one workstation. I'm with the last option. It isn't as puristic, but the audience doesn't hear the difference anyway.

the top of the line keyboards from the big three ( Korg, Roland, Yamaha) all have marvelous Rhodes emulators that are as good as the real thing, and better, PLUS: they have the unending pads, amazing pianos, guitars, brass, and so on , so it makes you wonder why someone would spend the money on a keyboard that was dedicated to basically ONLY be a Rhodes. This keyboard looks to be a boutique type item for the guy/gal that has everything, but still wants more.

Because rather than playing a patch on a controller, you're playing an instrument. It may be circuitry all the same, but the closer many of us can get to playing the original instruments the better. It changes the way you play, write, perform, and think about the music you're working on. I grew up on a Rhodes and would love to have it back despite having all the MIDI toys at my disposal in my home studio. Organic, textural feel still wins.

Those sounds are samples. If you hit a rhodes or Wurly repeatedly, you get randomly louder and softer sounds because the reed or tine is vibrating and may be going towards the hammer or away when struck. Every note is calculated a bit differently. No velocity layering sudden changes with a small difference, absolutely smooth all the way up and down. In short, seems real and alive with modeling.
@thedarkestrainbow
@thedarkestrainbow 6 жыл бұрын
These are modeled sounds for the rhodes, wurly, acoustic piano and clav, if I’m not mistaken.
@marcoballa
@marcoballa 6 жыл бұрын
maybe you can (apparently) get same sound from other machines with samples. But this Seven uses virtual modeling (no samples) and the feeling you can obtain playing it is REALLY close to the real vintage instruments. It's "alive", you press a key 10 times and you feel and ear 10 different things (as on my real Fender Rhodes or on my Wurlitzer). You can NOT obtain this with other sampled instruments (with samples every note is just the same if you press the key 1000 times). This (virtual modeling) make the difference.

It’s not dedicated to playing only Rhodes, it’s only dedicated to looking like a Rhodes. There is a huge market for bands these days that want the compete look of an old school keyboard rig. The fact they are upgrading their sounds that you can download from your phone sounds promising as well. It’s way cooler looking than the Nord, which everyone has so no individuality there. I’m curious to see where they go with it.

A lot of people saying it's too expensive for something that only does pianos, but as somebody who carries a Hammond XK3c and a Leslie everywhere, sound does matter and this instrument does sound really great. I'd rather be limited to a small range of high quality sounds as a player, you learn to be more creative with what you have. Plus I think playing strings and horns on keyboard is just so cheesy, if it ever works it's only on recordings, live it's just embarrassing. I will say the keyboard on the Crumar has to feel great for this price to be justified. Every other keyboard uses a simulated acoustic piano-type escapement, I don't know what the Crumar does, but would be amazing if it actually felt like Rhodes tines, there's a sort of squishyness to the Rhodes keyboard that shapes how you play it. I could see myself laying down $2300 for that. But if this one is made to feel like an acoustic piano, I'd have to say I think the Roland RD range might be a better purchase. I think the Roland's Wurly sounds better but the Crumar's Rhodes is better. Edited to add, it's really cool to see the name Crumar back in business.
@darwinsaye
@darwinsaye 6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you about using digital keyboards for horn, strings and other non keyboard sounds. I would be embarrassed to use a rompler keyboard, but I kind of also extend that to electric pianos as well. I use a digital piano for acoustic piano sounds just because of the weight, space and cost savings, but for electric piano sounds I'd rather use my Hohner Pianet T -- reliable, affordable, and relatively light at 40 pounds, and its a real electromechanical reed piano. And if someone really wants a real Rhodes/Wurlitzer style instrument without weight or reliability issues, there are the Vintage Vibe pianos; light as a Wurlitzer, sound like Rhodes, and with real hammers and tines.

At a max weight of 51.8 lbs I just don't understand the incentive to plunk down close to $2500 on a pseudo Rhodes. This is a very niche market item for sure. It looks and sounds pretty good, but I don't want to carry such a heavy one trick pony around. The only application I can see for it is if providing a Rhodes silhouette to your audience is important to you.

"The only application I can see for it is if providing a Rhodes silhouette to your audience is important to you....." It sure is. It is also much easier to transport than a Rhodes, In a soft case it will fit in the trunk of say a Prius.. it also has concert piano sounds. Plus a variety of different types of EP's & organs (ok, organs, not so amazing). You'd need a large truck to replicate them all.

I was about to ask if the LED knobs were mods but then realized that this is actually a new instrument? I'm with the other guy like yeah it looks and sounds cool but worth 5 times what I paid for my Rhodes? WHY? A couple built in effects which I already own multiples of in pedals? The lights? I mean hell, I could just try to install some on my Rhodes... I might now.
@zivkovicable
@zivkovicable 6 жыл бұрын
Why? Because sometimes i prefer a Wurlitzer type sound, sometimes i use grand piano patches, sometimes it's a clav or a classic Crumar. All in one instrument. It's much easier to transport than the Rhodes. Both lighter & less bulky.... Keeping a Rhodes in good working condition on a long tour isn't always easy. They don't always travel that well. I have a Rhodes. It stays at home in the studio, except for the rare occasion when someone else is doing the lifting, & there's a tech on hand to do the maintenance. For gigs in the city where I live it fits in the trunk of most standard cars. So I can have a car full of people plus my gear, or catch a cab & have a safe wind down drink with the band. "What I paid for my Rhodes".....When was that?

Led knobs are a brilliant idea in my opinion. They are multifunction encoders that show their actual values using an rgb-coloured scheme, allowing presets to setup all of them immediately. More blueish colours means lower values, warmer orange and red colorus higher values, for FX, decay, resonance, volume, delay, phase, everything. Brilliant idea indeed.

Never left her house. They go for around $3,000 now but I’ll never sell it. Had the action professional adjusted by vintage vibe, plays and sounds amazing.

I couldn't agree more. It's a classy little setup. I appreciate how it evokes the architecture of the old keyboards, but why not just use a standard midi controller in a cabinet that can use the really excellent modern emulations and samplings of the mechanical keyboards? This thing sound like a product of 2005.

Roland samples (and ALL other samples) are not comparable to the Seven in terms of dynamics, expressiveness and feeling. the Seven is something "alive" (as my '72 Fender Rhodes is) and every detail change any time you press the keys (as on my '72 Fender Rhodes). but you can experience this only playing it :-)
