@@koti0009 I don't know about any one company but as per automobile engineering concept of crumple zone is to intentionally make front to absorb force maximizing damage during frontal impact. If u know any such brands of cars which goes with minimum damages after frontal impact then note there is high possibility that they haven't been engineered in a right way it should be.

Although crumple zones spread the duration of impact and hence peak G, they are 'once only', sacrificial structures. In a multi-vehicle pile-up (hence multiple impacts), or where the vehicle rolls or 'endo's' several times, the overall strength of the chassis comes into play - that's when you might well be better off in a 1985 Saab 900 than a modern car.
@marlonallansupetran71205 жыл бұрын
It's a moot point in multiple impacts as the passengers have already sustained fatal injuries during the first one if the car didn't have crumple zones.
@altafkalam27163 жыл бұрын
That's a very boomer comment to make. Most accidents are not muticare pileups. Most of them are one on one head to head crashes. Why would you opt for a 1990s death machine than a car designed to keep you safe?

Yeah, I also came across a crash scene where someone hit a moose dead on travelling at around 110km/h with a front bull guard on their truck, and they were able to walk away without a scratch. In northern Ontario where I live it’s well known that having a front grill or bull guard will save your life in those events. We always have to be cautious about head on collisions on certain highways. I’ve seen some nasty wrecks in my life. I’m just confused now, after watching this video.

Has anybody ever been injured or died inside a car after a crash while the car is perfectly fine or minimal damage? Until I find that proof, crumple zone appears to me as an excuse to go cheap on cars.
@beaniekei86913 жыл бұрын
@David AZ aside from movies or your imagination, where did that happen? Link please 😉
@beaniekei86913 жыл бұрын
@David AZ your examples can be avoided with seatbelts and airbags. I highly doubt not hitting the dashboard or windshield can kill you in head-on collisions. Side hits and cars rolling are a different matter. My dad got into a car accident while a little drunk. He had an older, sturdier car. The other car had this crapple zone. His car got minor damages while the other, you already know. I don't know the physics of 2 cars colliding at around 50kph or the Gs involved in it, but my dad came out just fine. Nothing wrong with him according to the doctor. He said the only concussion he got was when he saw the repair bill for the other car since it was fault. Maybe he's got more resistance than a trained fighter pilot? Lol
@Kyle-kc8cw3 жыл бұрын
First, let's go with "theory" (I say "theory" because it's actually pretty solid science at this point). Yes, crumple zones are definitely a factor of maintaining affordability. But it also makes cars generally a lot safer. You're assuming the entire car is a crumple zone, which is wrong. There's a reason it's called a crumple ZONE. It's a sacrificial part of a vehicle. The cabin of the car itself remains rigid and durable (and better) to this day. The engine bay compartment for example will get absolutely obliterated as it absorbs as much of the impact force it can, while the cabin is strengthened to maintain its structural integrity. As opposed to what you want, which is a strong engine compartment which may or may not smash INTO the cabin if it is too rigid. There's a few car crash tests that demonstrates this combination of crumple zone and strong cabin at work directly against "stronger, older cars". To put simply, crumple zones allow the occupants to decelerate as gradual as possible while the cabin protects them from actually being smashed. Without being the kinetic energy being absorbed and distributed, occupants will get mushed despite the car surviving intact. Ever heard of an EOD suit? It works on similar grounds. Now onto an example that you are asking for. One, yeah you can just go ahead and search the test video of an older car and newer car crashing head on. But my dad has been involved in an accident that pitched a new car against an older one. And it's the perfect example I use till this day. Because car size and type matters... say if an 1970 4x4 smashes into a cute little 2020 hatch, the results will be pretty obvious. So the accident my dad had, was a 2019 Corolla against a 7th generation Corolla. it was a head-on collision (the other fellow was driving in a one way street going against traffic, my dad also made a mistake by turning into the street without slowing down assuming it should be clear as it was early morning, a good ol' combo of blind spots, stupidity, and relatively high speeds...boom). So no one was seriously injured from this and both cars were pretty much dead. The resulting differences being. My dad wash shaken up but not a scratch. The other guy had a good headache and a broken arm (nothing serious though). It was very clear why. The cabin of the 2019 Corolla was totally fine. Not a crack on the windshield and no bends on the A-pillar. Airbags all deployed as they should. The 7th generation Corolla didn't do very well. Firstly the lack of airbags. Furthermore, the dashboard was damaged and the driver side pillars almost fully collapsed. Oh ya...crumple zones also work to the benefit of the object it collided with. So yes, naturally the newer car's crumple zone would have also cushioned your father's impact.

sure if it crashes it wont as badly crumpled, but the absorption has to go somewhere which the rest then goes to the passengers.
