Crunchyroll REMOVES All Comments Due to Safety Issues

I've already unsubscribe to Crunchyroll, because of this. I've always read the comments after the episode, so I can see if I missed any detais. Now there is just a void below the video.

Well pirate sites will have comments and I think people will cancel and use hianime and other sites

Unfortunately my year sub kicked a few months ago. But if they don't return the comments I will never sub again. Netflix pissed me 6 years ago I never gave them a penny after that.

Same. There's plenty of ways to get anime these days. Comments were the only reason I stayed on Crunchyroll.

I think they should give people the ability to block comments/users they don’t like instead of removing the feature entirely.

but to block someone whose comments you dont like to see you would have to first do exactly that - see these comments - and thats just not cool for comments like some under Twilight Out of Focus In the end they would have to pay moderators and give chat-restrictions to some users in order to really create a safe comment section but that would cost money.. of course blocking could still be useful for people who are just annoying to you tho

yeah they dont care about us they're first and formost a profit-oriented company But it also doesnt really matter if you personally asked for anything or not it should be normal to remove inappropriate comments and its whack to remove the comment section to not have this effort

I unsubscribed from cruchyroll because of this. There are many sites that offer streaming and I don't feel crunchy offered anything better or special for that side. Their network stability, localization quality and overall user experience has been pretty bad at times. The thing why I was using crunchyroll was the comment area and written reviews. To scroll down after the episode or sometimes in mid episode while the feelings and thoughts were still fresh and see how others felt about it, was often the highlight for me. I absolutely loved how I often saw same names popping in comments like CrazyYandereWhich, how each show developed their own inside and meta jokes/narratives and how people pointed out things I missed or details that were in manga or light novel.

Comments were gotten rid off the same reason why there isn't a forum there anymore. Being a part of a major company(Sony) this is a move to have one less thing they have to worry about. Which is why there are no reviews on Hulu(a long time ago Hulu had forums), Netflix or any of the newer Plus streaming services. Moderators don't cost that much. In the past when Crunchyroll had moderators for their forums most of them where compensated with free Crunchyroll subscriptions.

On more thing: Crunchyroll just devalued itself a bit by doing this. Now it makes more sense for me to seek Anime for free instead of paying a company that removed its comment section on a media that i like to watch.

The comments are one thing, but now you cant even see why people didnt like a show in the reviews. I used to always look through the reviews and read the titles "This show is a hidden jem" or "This show is boring/lame" etc. Stars don't mean anything lots of garbage is over rated and good shows are under rated.

If you're on pc you can get KZbin dislike numbers back with a browser extension. I would say that what Crunchyroll has done is worse, because technically speaking the star rating system is just a more refined version of the like/dislike system since you can express to what degree you like or dislike a series.

its honestly kind of pathetic there is like zero reasons for this other then some studios getting butthurt. the whole point of comments and reviews is so people can see if there walking into a trash fire. its not just comments gone its the review of the actual anime i like to read comments others have made so i can decide if the anime is for me or not. all they are doing is cutting back on maintaining the actual site all this company seems to do is cut back on quality. hi dive other anime sites could jump on this. The player itself is subpar and the app has a caching issue.

I wouldn't be surprised if CR usership goes down in the coming years and sailing the high sea's becomes a lot more prevalent again. They removed the community feature completely, the subs are inconsistent and sometimes even broken, the video player isn't the most functional at the best of times. This is exactly why I'm against one company owning the majority of the market because if there are no other options (which there really isn't anymore) people are just going to go the illegal route.

This is a bad thing. This reminds me of Mii Verse on the Wii U where it was designed to talk abojt a certain niche. I dont like using other social media crap to say stuff, just KZbin and at the time Crunchyroll...now they devalued the platform. I guess its the same as sailing the high seas. They wanna be like that, lower the price by $2.99 or $3.99 because the comments as a social aspect of the platform...

How can people review anything, when you can't get anything to ship? I have many preorders light novels and manga from May and June... and they still haven't shipped... I didn't know the 30-40 % "premium" on Barnes and Noble/ Amazon was for the benefit of actually getting inventory...

I like Hells Paradise but everyone in the fucking planet hates it just like Darling in the Franxx that all i see is allot of hates comment on my favorite anime on Crunchyroll that makes me feel uncomfortable for watching it. Now that they removed it its no longer feel like Anime Planet that all they put out its negative hate comments on anime that i watch making them unwatchable and flat out toxic gatekeeping so im in a minorities for casual weebs for them blocking hate comments and reviews scores on any anime i like.

Best thing ever! It's not a social media platform, like almost every other streaming platform. Guess what? You are not that special, it's a business and it makes no sense to allow that type of communication. There have been issues long before this "BL" scapegoat. I've seen a ton of notorious comments that have absolutely no moderation. You are all children acting up in daycare and now you have been punished. Get in the corner for your behavior and abuse, (however small). Go somewhere else for the "conversations".

Crunchyroll didnt learn their lesson trying to push Yuri on Ice, now im not against BL or Yuri, but some stuff that shouldnt be suited advertised. Ridding comments completely to run in defense of a BL anime is a overreaction.
