For Non-Japanese People: I don't know if you realize how important it is that they have women in management or visible on the workforce. It's very hard in Japan for women to exceed in positions of power in the workplace. There are often no women in any positions of power due to sexism and thinking "oh they will quit when they get married" even if this is not true. So even seeing one in a documentary is amazing. There are a lot of movements right now on the front of Japanese women's equality in the workplace. They call it "the bamboo ceiling" for a reason! So supporting companies that support women in the workplace such as Kyoani (which is mostly women), and Good Smile Company is very important for gender equality in Japan.

I have only four nendoroids, and the story behind them is kind of interesting. About six or so years back, I purchased the Black Rock Shooter OVA from Amazon, and it came with two nendoroids, one of Black Rock Shooter, and one of Dead Master. Cut to about six months before today, and I was visiting my local comic book store, looking around, when I spotted something up on the highest shelf of the Used section, squished tightly between two larger boxes. The box was turned on its side, but it had a single picture of a nendoroid of Mato, Black Rock Shooter's human form. It was only twenty dollars, so I asked the worker to get it down for me so that I could buy it, because I love the Black Rock Shooter series. Imagine my surprise when it turned out that not only did the box contain two nendoroids, one for Mato and the one for Yomi, Dead Master's human form, but they were the designed the exact same way as the nendoroids I already owned, two sides of the same coin. Needless to say, I was ecstatic. To think that I would come across the other half of my nendoroids, years later. All four now sit proudly at the top of my bookshelf, Mato and Yomi taking up the center, with Black Rock Shooter and Dead Master beside them.

it's mostly a matter of perspective. In the states we're used to cheaply manufactured figurines that are almost entirely all "children's toys". Figures that aren't like that tend to be fully rendered and highly detailed statuettes. So when we see a chibi figure, we tend to unconsciously categorize it as a cheap child's toy. Obviously these are easily on par with full scale figures, but it's easy to not be aware of that if your experience is only with the extreme ends of the spectrum

As someone who doesn't really consume prepainted figures but opt to paint them myself, I can truly understand and highly appreciate all the hard work that the artist pour into each figure, I share in their feelings of having these little plastic figures being a part of themselves, my work in garage kits also defines many times who I am now, even though these figures end up being massed produced, the hands that made them (at least those that are made by hand still), have that human touch that brings art to life in a way. I understand that to be able to make a profit out of this industry, things have to be massed produced, I always though that the human heart would not be in those finished boxes ready to be shipped, but after seeing these sculptors and artist, I've changed my mind. I only own 1 nendo, and even with it's imperfections from mass production, I can appreciate those behind the scenes that made them.
@jessical48664 жыл бұрын
Ah! I watch your channel, so I was very surprised to see this comment. ☺️ It was a welcome surprise. I think the work of mass production definitely leaves room for individual artists like yourself to take the work in a different direction and to set a different standard. For example, I can’t see a mass producer trying to figure out a feasible way to tape off individual rose petals to be painted against a white dress... they’d probably give up or change the design. Your specific set of resources (time being a large one) means you can invest more into the singular item. And your works are absolutely OOAK, giving it its own value. While it’s certainly special, you would not even be physically capable of reproducing it on a large scale. That’s where companies like Good Smile come in.

@WeeItsNookies I rarely buy direct from GSC unless they are at a con or it's an exclusive to their site. Sometimes that's the only way for a few. Like Snow Miku anything.

@WeeItsNookies Again, like in the fast food industry :) we're paying for the work put into the creation of the supply, not the products that make it (look at soda as an example though an inflated industry)
@euncie4444 жыл бұрын
WeeItsNookies not really. if we’re considering the amount of work and consideration being put into the figures, along with the quality it’s reasonable at $60

Such an amazing mini documentary!!! I love seeing the behind the scenes of products I love. It's crazy just how much work and effort goes into making something as small as a Nendoroid. Seeing the people behind the product like this really lets you feel the soul behind the figures :)

Now this pops up, and I'm so glad to have seen it and feel glad to be supporting such a lovely and dedicated company! I have 3 nendoroids on pre-order right now and I can't wait to receive them! ଘ(੭ˊ꒳ˋ)੭✧

24:44 Why are they using Snow Miku and Mikudayo as a comparison for how their product has improved? Mikudayo is supposed to look disproportionate bc she’s a person in a costume 😂

Smallgremlin Gremlin All of the old death note nendoroids looked like hot garbage. I also don’t think characters that are especially not cute like the Hulk or Joker should be made into nendoroids

I will forever love this company. Your Nendoroids truly made me 'smile' and they helped me through my lows during my teenage years. Truly a genius figurine for collecting. I had 11 of them but had to sell two because of money issues. I think it's amazing to have such high quality collector's items for an affordable price. I still check your website and all the new characters. Can't wait to buy more soon!

There’s no stopping in collecting these nendos. I remember controlling myself not to buy one but then they re-release an Oikawa Nendo and let’s say I ate my words. Then they released Jujutsu Kaisen nendos and I said bye to a huge chunk of my savings. I love it and I’m excited to get my hands on it. 💕

Ever since I held my first Nendo in my hand (their head fits your palm perfectly!), I cannot stop buying them... I have 48 atm, preordered a few more and I just saw the announcements at Winter Wonder Festival 2020 - they still will be a deadly threat to my wallet. XD But yes, they are cute, high quality and make me smile - great recipe to turn me into a fan of these figurines. I especially love that they are bringing back older animes like Yu Yu Hakusho or Bleach or InuYasha, not just the latest ones. Thanks CR for the great report!

I find it funny how older Figma with morr accesories are cheaper compared to the newer with lesser. I understand why, but sometimes Im pretty dissapointed spending above $100 just for the figure with few hands and a faceplate. Nendos seem reasonable because I ussually see them around $50 and they come with a good amount of things. Either way still gonna buy Figma
@supersmilyface14 жыл бұрын
I have MANY Nendoroids and it was interesting to see how they were made. I'm glad that they put so much love and effort into their products to ensure that they're high-quality. I like checking the website everyday to see the new Nendoroids when they come out, even if I don't know who the character is or don't plan on buying them. I do hope that someday the Danganronpa Nendoroid series will continue since I recently got into the game series (and by recently I mean it took me 2 years to finish the main 3). I look forward to seeing what new figures they make in the future. :D

I already knew most of the process of making these but I think this is the first time I see the people behind it. The final part makes me happy, they are indeed a part of you, or rather an extension, they become little trophies and make you remember the friends and experiences the series brought to you culminating into a cute figure. I love taking pictures of them, I got into photography because of them. I dunno, they mean a lot for me.

For $60, I was super nervous ordering my first Nendoroid. I’ve never exactly been wealthy, so $60 was no small price tag. However, once I got my little man in the mail, took him out of his box, looked at him for the first time...it’s 100% worth every single penny I spent. Such a beautiful, high quality figure. They really do put so much care into the faces, especially. The Nendoroid I ordered was Dante from Devil May Cry 5, he comes with a lot of small attachments (two handguns, a sword, and a motorcycle, all INCREDIBLY detailed). I was honestly so blown away with how perfectly they replicated his weaponry directly from the game; I was even more excited when I took the motorcycle out and saw it had wheels that actually rotate! Ugh I just love my Nendoroids so so much, if you’re considering buying one, do it! They’re so lovely.
