@@ricremricrem2221 at 00:32 he presents the Loop Theory in its classic form, as it was understood before 3.0+1.0 came out: Shinji gets to somehow "reset" the world of Evangelion and start the Rebuild timeline, with the same cast of charachters in the same world, with some minor changes. We now know that cannot possibly be the case: the fact that Rebuild Asuka is a clone of the Shikinami series means she's not the same person Soryu was (Naoko Zeppelin's daughter), and therefore the Rebuild cast is not the same one from the original series. That alone disproves the Loop Theory. We also found out that in the Rebuild universe there are multiple Adams, the Anti-universe, the Golgota Cross and a totally different set of Impacts: none of that was in the original series, so we can safely conclude that it's not the same universe. Kaworu never mentions the world and charachters of Evangelion being stuck in a loop, he only talks about his personal cycle of death and rebirth within the Rebuild timeline, as the first and last angel whose name is written in the book of life. It's in the Rebuild timeline that he had met Shinji when he was a little child, not in a previous loop. I'd say that the last movie didn't properly explain some aspects of the Rebuild lore, but that's clearly not a reason to keep on defending a theory that just doesn't stand

​@@frankjaeger2565 ANIMA is also problematic for the classic Loop Theory because it presents a loop of its own with the Earth and Moon having constantly swapped places for thousands of cycles. In ANIMA, it's implied that there is a loop of some kind when Instrumentality fails, and that the Moon then becomes Earth and it all starts over. But this would not seem to jive with Rebuild where Kaworu's coffins are on the Moon and its implied he has knowledge of at least some of his other incarnations, or as you say, just has died and been reborn in the same universe over and over. The only way to make it work is if the loop is resetting further back than Shinji's lifetime, which would then allow small changes to occur that impact how the characters and situations can be so similar but so different. Maybe it even loops the whole way back to the start to First Impact, who knows? Frankly, it's all meant to be unclear soup as the authors themselves probably have no real vision beyond a vague sense of changing things in the story as they themselves age and change their minds (Anno being the obvious main culprit here). From an in-universe perspective, I suspect we'd just have to accept that there is a multiverse of several parallel universes with differing timelines, some of which are looping in one way, others looping in another way, and some perhaps not looping at all. It does feel like Rebuild is meant to be in a loop with the original series at least, but whether other timelines are part of this is really unclear and there is not a good way to harmonize them all into one cohesive loop. It's similar to what is presented in the video, but certain timelines do not connect and do not overlap unlike the branching paths here. We should probably approach Evangelion like a religious book like the Bible (appropriately enough)--it has multiple authors with multiple ideas and multiple visions of the past and future. You can't really ever fully harmonize it since the parts aren't necessarily meant to fit together.

There was never any intention of linking them through a shared multiverse or something like that, the Rebuild have always been presented as a new version of Eva, not a sequel. I have to admit that Anno probably shouldn't have made that scene with Kaworu Shin in that way, and he should have better explained his cycle (which occours just within the Rebuild timeline). Let's just hope they clear things out with some material set between 3.0 and Shin

Ok, after watching the final movie its clear this dude was right about everything. It all connects. And furthermore the fundamental theme of the whole series represents the author grappling with his own demons, thus culminating with him getting the help he needed, now finishing his vision and the author's arc is representative of Shinji's. Every single thing is his life through the lens of Shinji. Finding friends to except him, being selfish and unrepentant of his desire to feel "special" for his situation and the pity party of Neon Genesis. Shinji was so different in these movies because the depth of writing is now representative of someone worldly. The author now being able to accept the world for all its darkness and blemishes, putting others first for once and seeing things from his father's perspective and pain now shows the authors hope in humanity just like Shinjis. Honestly this might be the most meta, moving and batshit insane iceberg of a franchise I've ever seen. Only a cured psychopath could come up with this. Japan, the masters of narrative story telling bar none.
