One Piece has never been afraid to let us know that emotions are okay. Even in a setting filled with Manly Men who live by codes of honour and all that stuff, almost every character has been shown crying on screen at least once, and it's never a bad thing. It's refreshing compared to all the other shonen filled with stoic characters who barely ever crack a smile, never mind laugh or cry.

I'm not a one piece fanatic, but I did grow up with it. And now I understand why the love OP gets.
