His entire screen time added up would make only 1 or 2 episodes of a standard show, and he's had no screen time where he's not being used to develop _other_ characters or further the plot. Its funny how he says "Fight me Fair and Square" when that fight wasn't fair at all, I mean Naofumi is extremely weak attacking and can only use defensive skills(for now), not only that but the spear hero has a decent defense plus an offensive power that is off the charts when it comes to skills, and if all of that was not enough his Equipment is 10 times better than Naofumi's and he is 20 levels higher. Idk how many of you have played RPGs before but let me tell you that winning against an opponent 20 levels higher than you is almost impossible unless you are lucky and a pro at the game, because his stats, equipment, boosts and skills are much higher than you (imagine your strongest skill deals 2000 DPS, then a guy 20 levels higher probably has a skill that deals 10,000 DPS) and on top of that Naofumi won with only defensive skills, I was honestly impressed when I read this in the manga

The rule of the duel is not to drain the opponent's health bar but only to pin him down. Even being 20 lvls down Naofumi held a legendary weapon so it's reasonable to say that he can effectively block most of Motoyasu's damage. Referring again to the rules of the duel, we can see that all Naofumi have to do is use his godly utility and cc to punish Motoyasu, and again this is no point and click MMO. Motoyasu's stats are shit if Naofumi blocks or dodges all of his attacks, and minor but not really a spoiler, but later it is said that the 3 heroes' combat skills are significantly inferior to the kingdom's best swordsman and of course, Naofumi's guild, as the Sword hero lost a cannot be more anticlimatic and predictable duel vs a swordswoman 10 lvls lower than him.

@@ryandoan1580 Combat Skills and stats are 2 different things, a trained knight wiped the floor with the sword hero in a little duel/training and pissed him off so much that he used a sword skill against her(read this part a long time ago), their skills are really strong its just that they are not trained and they put little effort into becoming stronger because of how arrogant they all are and because of that they would be pretty weak if it wasn't because of the skills that the legendary weapons have.(and even with skill they are really weak against the real threats) Going back to the duel, if you put aside the weapons which are both legendary and stats, Naofumi right now is not trained and he doesn't have that much fighting experience but he does have great Defense against both physical and magical attacks, but if another hero 20 levels higher than him fights by only using the skills of a legendary weapon then its not gonna be a walk in the park for him.(its not like our MC is skilled enough right now to block and dodge all of Motoyasu's attacks) The 3 heroes are pretty weak considering they are "heroes", the only reason they are alive right now is because they have OP weapons, so don't focus on Motoyasu but rather on his spear and the skills it has, the only reason why Naofumi actually took some damage in this duel is because of the Spear skills and not the hero using them. My point is that Motoyasu himself is not strong, but his skills and stats are much stronger than Naofumi's.

Honestly if we’re talking about game logic, shield hero more closely resembles dark souls than a typical rpg. Where levels and equipment aren’t really important in terms of pvp. Yeah, they make you stronger. But if you can’t hit the guy or the dude just has more experience than you you’re going down.

Personally, I didn’t like how the cheating was so blatantly obvious yet Mr. Lance Hero didn’t see it. I tend to prefer the manga, especially in this case, but I think it deserves a break. Yeah, the manga does many things better, but this isn’t bad per se since it seems many people can still enjoy this without much of an issue (and by enjoy I mean get pissed off, rightfully so).

​@@taskmagician4289, do you really not understand that the main character was suddenly thrusted a few yards of his feet in an off-kilter direction and also screamed out against the Thot princess? The anime explained it, but the visuals certainly did not. They made it seem like the Spear Knight didn't know he was assisted. The only way anyone could rationalise this is that Spear Knight was too busy with the balloon enemies that he didn't hear a thing and wasn't looking in Naofumi's direction, but even then wouldn't it be strange that Naofumi suddenly repositioned himself to Spear Knight's left? I still like the show, but this scene at least broke the suspension of disbelief.

Another similar manga is Ubell Blatt. It focuses on a swordsman named Koinzell who was betrayed by the people he once fought with to save the kingdom from an evil empire. L0ST S0UL good point, if he had that, his Level would be somewhat higher, I would say 26 at least since he was taking some time, unlike the other 3, whose basically try hard grinder... also another reason they’re so high is that they had support meaning they can tackle tougher enemies faster... Naofumi only had Rapthalia with him and she was low level like him too.

I don't know if it's me being a big baby, the scenes undertones, the sad moving music, or the events from the first episode slapped back into the face of the viewer after new horrifying emotional context is added but the end of this fight always makes me cry. It shouldn't I know but I still do because my mind puts me in the place of the character and imagining the pain they go through and what they've overcome. All I can think about is would I even have the courage to pull something like that off.

Since the 3 other heroes knew about this world through games and all, before they got summoned, they knew what to do to level up and all and stuck to that routine. Naofumi didn't. He had to literally adapt and survive on his own. So he ended up taking routes and challenges the other heroes wouldn't have known. It's why Naofumi is much better skilled than fighting than they are. He knows more about the world than they do now. It's like the 3 heroes went straight up and rushed the campaign while Naofumi went and did all kind of side quests before even jumping onto a main quest. At a lower level, Naofumi is much stronger than any of the heroes.

Still one of the best anime fights ever! It may not be that important of a fight or as epic as other fights. But it's the first time Naufumi was able to fight back and show people his power, he may have lost in the end but he showed everyone not to mess with him.
