@julstarzz i wish re zero was more like that. more balanced. I heard the side stories are usually this comedic but i wish the actual main story had more lighthearted moments / episodes like this, instead of "just one or 2 moments in the episode THEN we go back to our usual carnage and horror" it would give the story a better balance. kinda like the movie groundhog day had its very serious moments, or edge of tomorrow had its comedic moments to balance the tone.

The side stories help, but Subaru does a good job with comic relief most of the time. There are stretches of time with pure suffering, but between loops, especially in the mansion arc (arc 2), Subaru finds time to joke. From what I remember from the end of season 1 and season 2 (arcs 3 and 4) there’s a lot less comedy, but yeah

And Re:zero has a continuous theme that the feeling of love is irrational, and complicated. Ram loves Roswaal even though he destroyed her village. Rem loves Subaru because he saved her, but Emilia doesn't "love" Subaru (in the same way) even though he's saved her many times over. And yet Subaru loves Emilia because, as he says, he simply loves her.

It just must feel weird that the lord of the mansion is depicted as overthrown and his powers stolen by one of his subordinates. From that perspective it certainly would feel creepy. Imagine being the president with unique features and powers. But then someone made a large statue of your powers and features on a super weak, but yet popular person you knew.
