I would have thought the same thing after I had once tried to play Crusader Kings 2 and got overwhelmed, failed, and quit. The UI in CK3 is the best I've seen in any game, period. Have you ever seen something in a mouse over tooltip that you wanted more information about, but you couldn't mouse over that to get more information because if you did, the tooltip would disappear? Well that problem is solved in CK3. There are infinite tooltips within tooltips. When a tooltip comes up, and a faint progress bar completes, you can then mouse your mouse pointer onto that new tooltip to hover over other icons and keywords for even more information.
@ex0stasis724 жыл бұрын
Also, losing is fun in this game. In my game, I, as high king of Ireland, had married off my daughters to high Kings of other countries, one of which was Denmark. Many of those countries, especially Denmark, found themselves at war with my next-door neighbor, England, a military superpower at the time. I had an obligation to assist them in that war against England. Otherwise, it would have been a waste to marry off my daughters to them. We lost all those wars, but my participation in those wars was more than any other country so, I still gained positive opinions from them, but now, we're in poor standing with England. Time passes and my high king passes away of old age and my son heir takes over the throne of Ireland. Not everyone is happy about this because the heir was contested and others also had claims to the throne. Add to that, I also had a debuff on opinion from everyone because I was a new ruler. I then noticed a warning notification in the UI that the current heir of one of my vassals was from England. And that vassal was 67 years old. Once he died, I will have lost that territory to the kingdom of England. I was not having any of that, so I looked into ways to prevent this. I tried to increase my authority as high king so I could dictate who that heir would be, but according to Irish culture, that increase of authority was prohibited. It would have taken too long to convert people to a different culture more accepting of increased king power, so I was desperate to keep England from taking my land. So, I decided to attempt an assassination of the heir, who was a 12-year-old boy. I started a plot to murder him and I asked my spymaster to help ensure its success. After about 6 or 7 months of planning, my spymaster saw an opportunity. He befriended the boy and offered to take him on a trip to somewhere (I forget) and then took him into the forest, where he left him overnight reporting back that he went missing. Later, the boy was discovered mauled by some wild animal, but my spymaster became so guilty that he confessed, which implicated me as the murderer of the boy. Now, public opinion of me as tanked, especially by the close family of the boy, which there were apparently several Irish people in power who were related either by blood or by marriage. That being said, my plan technically worked. The new heir to that territory at risk was now under my authority, but it now comes at the cost of my reputation with literally everyone. Now, my number one priority is to ensure than my next heir maintains his right to the throne long enough to give my dynasty as a second chance at ruling Ireland. And that's where I'm at now.

@ex0stasis724 жыл бұрын
@@chessplayer8798 I know what you mean. I spend the first 1-2 hours just paused diving deeper and deeper into the multiple nested tooltips leasurely. If it were any other system, I'd feel exasperated that is have to dismiss the current tooltip to go into a different menu to reference something (that I feel like I need to memorize eventually) and then come back to the previous menu to hover over what I was looking at before to read the tooltip with a better understanding. All that can be cut out by simply moving the mouse pointer to what you don't understand, and they game will tell you. Ya, it's a long tutorial, but I was done with the tutorial in less than 8 hours, including lots of long breaks without prompts towards the end.
@DennisGr4 жыл бұрын
@@chessplayer8798 i know this probably comes as little of a surprise but read tooltips carefully and repeatedly, stop time often to read and think and read again, use the built in encyclopedia and read even more. play it slowly, embrace defeat and other setbacks. your goal should not be to win, but to have fun with countless alternate histories and stories developing over the course of every new match. as for the tutorial, play it slowly, conquer ireland bit by bit, you can take 30 years without waging a new war, you have time to spare, use the fact that you start with a lot of gold to increase levy size through buildings or use the gold to pay men at arms (basically mercenaries) to win more territory.

I wish i understood anything you said, but this is way above my level from never playing the games before. I am sure it was very informative, but for a noob it just means i have to come back when i know more about the game.

I would say booting up the game, and going section by section through the vid while looking at it in your own game, might help! It's definitely a super dense game, and I tried my best to go as broad-strokes as possible - if you have any questions, you can ask here, or in our discord (link in the description). Super friendly folks in there, plus myself, all happy to help, I'm sure =)

Don't feel bad, it is a very hard game to understand, I've tried several times to learn CK2 and struggled every time, this time around it seems a bit more streamlined so i'm finding it easier to grasp.

@@PartyElite Cheers man, yeah I think I will spend some time reading everything i can and revisit the video :) I am a total war / civ type player, so my expectations was completely turned upside down D not in a bad way. just need to readjust the learning curve

Awesome tutorial! I really hope Paradox work on the vassals a bit, even looking at this tutorial I can see that "powerful vassals" are kinda broken. they need to fix what's defined as a "powerful vassal" like you had a vassal with 150 troops and he was considered powerful which is just annoying, also the -40 opinion is a bit to harsh. I really hope they work on that as it's a real pain to manage "powerful vassals" when most of them are not even powerful, and they demand seats on the council despite having either shit traits or there being no more space.
@PartyElite4 жыл бұрын
"powerful" is determined by their strength compared to each other, iirc. So if one guy makes more money and raises more troops than another, they expect preferential treatment because they're "kind of a big deal" compared to the other guy
@lush.hayden4 жыл бұрын
@@PartyElite Yeh that makes sense, the only issue is that these people make 0 money and provide 0 troops almost so why are they still powerful, just some random Mayor or really small count. It should exist yes, but it needs work

Me : doesn’t follow instructions of the game - takes over Ireland by force and bribing the pope to hell, gets disliked by literally everyone in the area, alliance cock blocks me and takes the chunk of land that divides my territory then says sorry and doesn’t help me, the 3 large nations around decided they had enough of my shit and wipe me clean off the map Also me : goes to watch tutorial (doesn’t watch it fully) Me : starts a new game with intentions to not crusade the shit out of everyone, nation starts disliking me for taxing them and crusades me Also me : goes back to watch tutorial The authentic crusader kings experience 👌

9:25 The domain limit is actually the limit for barony-ranked titles. If you have multiple castles in a single county, they would be individually counted towards your domain limit.

Dude, first off, FANTASTIC video! I learned a lot, and you presented in a concise and orderly fashion. This is an older guide, but as this just came to Xbox I'm watching because I am getting crushed! This was so helpful because I want to love the game!

Fantastic guide, expertly explained and paced. Helpful tip: De Jure is pronounced like “day joo-ray” with a soft j sound or “you-ray” if you’re going for the original Latin.

Thank you! On both fronts - I'll make sure to note that down for future vids. Though it'll take some getting used to - been pronouncing it wrong for years now.
