It's funny to read other people complaining that the game is dumbed down from CK2. As a new player, it seems to be very deep and complex and I would never have had a chance to understand CK2 then. It's especially annoying for me if my heir, who I've set up to inherit all the right stuff, have amazing claims and things like that, dies and I die a year later. All the good claims and titles passed to my grandson, the king of England. Meanwhile my new heir was the duke of Mercia or whatever it's called. I basically had to screw over my own family to get everything back. When this happened I lost: - The kingdom of Ireland to the king of England - My original heir's place of 1st in line to inherit the throne of England - Same story with Scotland - Same story with Wales - Smae story with Mercia - Same story with a whole lot of other titles. All that remained for me was Mercia and some claims that I'd never be able to conquer/press during my lifetime. Oh, and I became the vassal of my first character's grandson, also known as the king of England and Ireland.
@davey24874 жыл бұрын
And of course one of the major issues was that practically all rulers from my dynasty where the vassals of the king of England and Ireland and as such a vassal of a member of the same dynasty. This in turn created a major issue with gaining renown.

The beginner's guide continues! Dynasties and proper succession/inheritance are extremely important for the 'long game' in Crusader Kings. This should help make sense of all of that! Just a heads up (and to nip it in the bud because I tend to get comments about this - not that I mind): there are two ways to pronounce "dynasty" - mine is the British way. I was raised on British English, and while I no longer say "lift" or "lorry", I do say "dynasty", "envelope", "aluminium" etc. etc. So please bear with me =P! *That aside - questions? Requests? Also, I gave the duchy of Leinster and county of Leinster to an Uncle so I could hold Munster (dynasty's homeland) and Meath (to make Dublin the new capital), but still hold Ossory myself. I have a question: for about 50 years I had my primary title and player heir aligned. Now when my queen got to her late 70s it suddenly changed and I was about to lose everything. The primary title for some reason went from my oldest child to one of my grandchildren, but I would still continue the game as my oldest child, only getting 1 county even though I had a kingdom with dozens. I did sorta kinda dodge that with tanistry where at least somebody of my family would get both, but it still scared me a lot - especially since it was in ironman. So, how precisely does this work. I did play a few hundred hours of CK2 and know the basics there, but this never happened to me in that game. If anybody knows how these laws actually work, let me know. I do have a basic understanding of them, but apparently sometimes it flies out of the window. PS: One more short one - at one point in the same game, my imprisoned sibling from a rebellion challenged me to a fist fight or something and my only two options were to give her my whole kingdom or to gamble and have a 2:1 chance of keeping it. It seems very very strange to have such an event - especially when she was totally powerless. Anybody knows where it came from?
@Derzull24684 жыл бұрын
The fist fight comes from the decision "Challenge the Ruler", here are the pre-requisites: -Adult -Tribal government -Vassal -Claim on the Liege's title -Right gender to claim the title -Liege is adult *Can only be tried once every 10 years I got challenged once myself while I was a kid by a powerful tribal vassal. It shouldn't have happened since I was a kid but hopefully at 6 years old with 4 years spent in jail I won the fight why my 19 prowess!

@PartyElite4 жыл бұрын
Without the duchy title in place, the counts that should serve that Duke are serving you directly instead (as king) or serving some other Duke (who in turn serves you). Both of these circumstances will incur a "not rightful liege" penalty to taxes, and levies. You can create the Duchy title and keep it for yourself, or give it to somebody else to serve under you, and assign those counts to serve under them. That will remove the aforementioned penalties! I hope that helps - let me know if not! And if you haven't already watched it, check out the "managing vassals" section of my first video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5OqdX6Kd7alfqs - that might help too!

I'm unable to continue my game after my initial character dies. Idk if I'm just stupid, or what, but whenever I first die, my entire kingdom gets distributed between my children. I've tried obtaining civics for higher crown authority and succession laws, but I am never able to get both in 1 lifetime. I've played 4 games already, all of which ended with my first character dying, most of my holdings being acquired by the siblings of my heir, crippling me in both gold and army size, thus making the game a lot less fun to play. Could you give me any tips on how to circumvent this? Other than just killing off my children, of course, since that sounds like a really un-fun way to play the game. Thanks for the in-depth tutorials, they've been a massive help!
@Patrick4624 жыл бұрын
What you're describing is exactly how CK3 works. It's also essentially how history worked (at least in most of Europe until 1400 or so). You cannot circumvent this system. You can put effort into changing this system, but it will take hundreds of years of game time. During those hundreds of years you'll need to accept the Confederation system and learn to work it as best you can. You'll still have the lands you've painfully accumulated under one ruler split between the heirs, but you will need to become skilled in minimizing the split. Get used to fighting your brothers for the rest of your father's lands. One last thing: I'm not telling you how to play the game or what type of game to enjoy, but if you prefer "paint the map" type games you may like Europa Universalis IV or Civilization VI or many other games, rather than CK3. CK3 is a medieval dynasty simulator and fun story generator, not an acquire and blob game.
@PartyElite4 жыл бұрын
Glad they've helped! As Patrick has touched on, this splitting of holdings is part and parcel of a game like CK, and very reflective of history (the history of Francia is wild!). If you'd like to try and blob, what I can suggest is pacing yourself. Make sure as each generation dies, you only have one of the top level rank. That way, the splitting will still result in one person in charge (since your primary heir will get your primary title, and all the other titles serve below them). Then the next generation can aim for the next rank up for a similar result on their death. At the same time, work towards a single heir system. You can also use an elective system, or title-specific succession (though that can be expensive for prestige). If you're dynasty head, you can also disinherit potential heirs, removing them from the inheritance line, but you're basically disowning them - totally a thing that happens in history too! I hope this helps!
@zajacztamas74 жыл бұрын
I actually played quite a bit of Civ 6, and I really enjoy the whole taking over the map thing. The reason I disliked the partition system so far is because it left me as the king of a kingdom, with my brothers taking a ton of counties, leaving me with around 1/5 of the gold and army I had before, and since my army is so small going on conquests makes it really hard. I guess I'll try embracing the system now. I've really enjoyed it so far, and if dealing with a the issues of succession is a part of it, I will. I was just hoping maybe that's not that important in the game. Thanks for the help from the both of you, and keep up the great videos Party! Cheers Edit: I was initially just hoping there was a choice in this matter too (from the beginning) like there is a choice in pretty much anything else you can do in the game, that's the reason I wrote my original comment.

Do you have a Cadet Branch where you're the house head? You have to be a house head to be in the running for Dynasty Head, so make sure you've taken the "decision" to "create a Cadet Branch" first. Let me know if that helps

@@PartyElite okay so the mother of my character was the leader of our house and after she died (im innocent) i had the option to create my own house. which resulted in me being the house and dynasty head :) thanks for the answer!

How to create Norman culture??
@PartyElite4 жыл бұрын
With the 1066 start there are a few Normans you can start as! Any count or Duke in Normandy will do the trick. Is that what you mean?
@nashiffuadkhan98174 жыл бұрын
@@PartyElite no, I mean I wanna start at 866 and create the Norman culture like how rolli came to Normandy. In ck2, any Norse character occupying french counties could one day convert to Norman. But I don't see that in CK3

Good tutorials and thanks! But I still lmao @ croatian culture in Ljubljana and Krain. Huge yikes, looking forward to the 300th DLC that will add the actual culture that was present there at the time.

I watched all your videos before I got into the game, but clearly I should’ve brushed up on some things after some absence away lol. I killed off all the sons of the king of Poland after my heir married his daughter, which I assumed would make my heir king because of the male preference succession laws. Well, he is techinciallu king, but it’s really just a title, and now I’m kind of my wife’s bitch and have to watch as she marries my player heir off to some random pagan Duke, making his liege different, and start wars left and right for no reason. Luckily she got wounded really bad since she had the flagellant trait and she died, so now it’s just trying to get my son out of his marriage so he can focus on being king.

It's not that complicated really. Basically paradox has completely enforced split succession with the enormous roadblock of innovation, unless you start with the emperor of Byzantium who does not give a single F about all that at 867. Obviously something that will be altered in one way or another in future expansions. Meanwhile maybe someone will mod it, actually i'll go take a quick look into the files myself. Poor design choice to say the least. Edit: Ok found it, updating this post in a bit. Text File is: Crusader kings III/game/common/scripted_triggers/00_succession_triggers.txt In this .txt you must search for "historical_succession_access_single_heir_succession_law_trigger ". Directly below that is the exception of byzantium. What you must do is this: 1.Copy everything from OR to byzantium. 2. Go directly to the left of the word "byzantium" hit enter then tab, once each. 3.Press ctrl+v to copy paste. 4.Replace e_byzantium with the one you want. "e" stands for empire from that i assume "c" stands for county "d" for douchy and "k" for kingdom. In my case i wanted to play as the county of Desmond so i replaced "e_byzantium" with "c_desmond" and voila start the game with aganatic/cognatic primo, just like that, poof!! However, it is most probable that the kingdom and empire titles need to be added as well or you may lose it when you upgrade. Thankfully you should know how to do that by now, easily. Cheers!

I'm still so confused. They need to simplify this, there are far too many hidden things that are not made immediately obvious. I'm not even aware of when children are being born xD

where did you come up with that pronunciation of dynasty? It's DIE-NAS-TEE. Great guides, but man this is driving me a bit nuts. It was also the name of a popular TV show and I've never heard anyone say it that way.
@PartyElite4 жыл бұрын
Lmao it's the British pronunciation of the word. Though my accent doesn't suggest it, I've grown up with "the Queen's English". Check the pinned comment - I get this all the time.
@giokun1004 жыл бұрын
The word comes from the Greek ''dynastia'' which is pronounced ''theenasteea''. The British do a better job at pronouncing it correctly.

I find this succession laws quite disturbing. Because as far as i know there was never like this in past monarchies that you die and your empire gets torn apart buy your kids, i mean it could happen but not like this. And you never can grow as a little family to that laws because of all the restrictions you have on money and prestige. Imagine making 1.1 gold per month and have to spend 250 gold on a single de jure. Its not rational. Plz make this relevant to the ratio of the family. An emperor could pay this easily but not a humble man that tries to make his kingdom. I'm that poor man :((

Money can be a very slow grind in this game when you're a smaller power - who are you playing as? As a tribe, make sure you're going on raids. As anybody else, try to get prisoners and ransom them for money. Also make sure your steward on your council has a high stewardship skill, and make sure that you and your wife do too! As for the tearing apart of kingdoms for sons when a ruler dies - take a look at the history of France as a great example. It happened so many times!
