Gotta love the thumps when they hit! Definitely gets your adrenaline going! Ask Sher what happened to his rod last week. He's got a funny story for you! Haha

Years ago I was testing out if my daughter’s pole with a bobber would have enough weight to keep the bobber upright. No bait, just an old school red & white bobber & a plain gold crappie hook. No sooner than it splatted onto the creek than it immediately went under water! A hybrid about the size of the first one you showed nailed it.

Glad you enjoyed my state I reside in and so what lake were you enjoying? I live about a block away from Milford Lake, the largest lake in Kansas and we have wipers galore and not to mention some monster blue cats. Great video by the way. Aloha from Kansas

Grew up playing the Trophy Bass games religiously, and therefore learned to just call them "Hybrid Bass", rather than the usual Wiper moniker. I always thought it would be fun and cool to target them seeing as it seems they're a largely ignored bass species. Love it. Also a rule you learn early on with fish in the plains and midwest is they are voracious and the epitome of "Eyes bigger than their stomach". Have you seen all the videos, pictures and compilations of especially pike out there? Suckers will eat anything, and will even attempt to eat other fish of their own species that are equal or bigger in size than themselves. The statement "when they eat, THEY EAT" couldn't be more accurate.

Used to fish for them at the Milford spillway, used nothing but topwater. Usually Zara Spooks. I caught very many 2-6lb fish. Until the day I hooked into a double-digit fish that kicked my lily white butt into the following week. I never saw it personally, was told by a bunch of other people it ran by it was well over 10lbs, might have been close to 20. Or not. I don't know for sure, but it was STRONG. Caught a few in the lake, but they definitely fought harder in the river with the current to help. Very much regret not using a larger rod that day. I prefer catching saltwater fish, but Wiper were the strongest freshwater fish I have ever caught. Not counting salmon and sturgeon that live in both.
