So I live along the Columbia River in Northeast Oregon and I have spent most of my Summers fishing for sturgeon and one of the things they love to is shove that big nose under a big rock are in a crevice or anything to try to stop you from pulling them in that was a very smart move of him to get down below the sturgeon to get a better angle

They don’t always do it, but those big fish are smart. They’ll sit on the bottom and use their weight to pin themselves down there. You physically can’t move them no matter how hard you pull. The first one you broke off did that to you. He sat and when you put too much pressure on em it popped. All 3 of my biggest sturgeon have been over 9 feet in length, and they typically do that at least once during the fight

Be careful divulging that information about using crappie as bait in Washington the regs aren’t very clear about the matter, and talking to wardens I’ve been told you will get tickets for using the eating parts of game fish as bait in the state of Washington unless specifically clarified it’s okay in the regs. Just don’t wanna see you get in trouble. Otherwise Great content though man keep it up!

Retired now, and living overseas, your videos always return me to the old fun days. As a native Oregonian, I too fished the Columbia River for salmon, steelhead, and sturgeon. I want to mention a quick story from about 1998, when a friend and I sturgeon fished from sunrise to sunset about 2 miles above the St. Helen's Bridge. We brought 101 sturgeon to the boat, and not one of them in the legal size slot.

I've been using baitcasters/level winds reels for years. When I'm casting heavy lures, I roll the reel, so the line is going up and down, gravity is pulling on the center of the spool, not the leading edge. Also found inflate mattress specifically for backseat of double cabbtrucks.
