With so many new folks subbing to my channel, I wanted to do a comprehensive video showing the entire aspect of a bee rescue, from the removal of the bees to the reuniting of the bees with their queen, as well as what I do with any extra honey. One thing that is not very noticeable in the video is the time it takes to accomplish this job. My day began at 8:00 am when I left the abbey and went till 4:30 that afternoon when I parked the monk mobile for the night. Then you can add another 2 hours of time the following days on the release of the bees and the queen, and the clean up of the honey and wax. Followed by about 3 more hours of rendering the wax. All in all, and investment of about 13 hours to do a removal and the subsequent jobs associated with it. Of course, once I get Wreck it Ralph and Good Time Charle back in the game, with their help, the amount of time it takes to do the job will be cut in half. I can hardly wait for this lock down to end. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave your comments, and if you liked the video, would you hit the thumbs up for me. God's peace to all. Mr. Ed

@@BrianTankersley There's a monk in his video with the tower of bees wax and he had a big beard in the thumbnail from 5 months ago. This is Saint Joseph abbey in Louisiana. It belongs to the order of Saint Benedict. You can look up order of Saint Benedict monks to see what they look like... Cause that's literally what I did like 5 minutes ago. They're monks that wear black robes. Look like right out of the middle ages with their robes. Saint Joseph abbey is very beautiful, look at the pictures on google.

RE: the coffee percolator you use to strain the honey: My late Father-in-Law, during WW2, was stationed down in Louisiana. The army base hired the locals to run the kitchens, and the kitchen would start the day filling the coffee strainers with coffee and let the water boil (percolate) through it the entire day. At the end of the day, after boiling through the coffee for at least 18 hours, those Louisiana boys would take that boiled-down coffee, mix it half coffee-half cream-half sugar and then drink it. The guys on night guard duty LOVED it because it helped them keep going all night!

Jeff Horchoff Bees that would seriously be so cool for me! I know with the pandemic it’s a little tricky to meet new people. But I love traveling. Especially if it means I get to enjoy the culture of where I am. I’ve enjoyed my fair share of fancy dinners and beautiful hotels. But, if I’m honest, the world I love the most is usually spent with good people just living life. I feel like I can usually tell more about a person by the people that love them and the way they respond to that. I really admire the way you see and share the world with the people around you. I feel like I have the best friends because I keep people who know how to love people, instead of people who love the “things” people can get them. I catch things on your channel like wishing me God’s peace and “waiting for the family” to watch you dissemble a hive. When you add that to the way you care and honor the bees and their hard work. It just really says a lot of good things about what makes you...”you” before choice and circumstance come into play. Anyways, I’m a deep thinker. Lol If you ever want to see Alaska I’ll definitely feed your group and show you around 😊 And if it doesn’t upset the balance of your family friend group to throw someone new in for a day or two, I’d love to see your set up and meet the famous Mr. Ed 😁 Maybe this coming spring/next summer if ur up for it. I have a sister in Louisiana that I could steal a hug from. She and I were supposed to do a week in New Orleans before the COVID-19. Lol God bless and stay safe with all those fuzzy friends. ☺️ ~Sheeara, Alaska

That was a long hive. As in watching I had a couple questions pop in my noggin. First, have you ever come across a hive that had 2 queens before the fight to the death and could you separate them to create 2 new hives? Second question, can queens sting? The finger catch made me wonder. Thanks for the entertainment Jeff.
@labella9291
@labella9291 4 жыл бұрын
Queens CAN sting Multiple times. And apparently their venom is different than worker venom, because people who no longer react to worker stings will react to queen stings.
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 4 жыл бұрын
I've never seen more than one queen in a hive other than during the swarm season. Never have I had 2 laying queens in the same hive though. A queen can sting, but because her stinger is curved, it can't sting us...I hope. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave your comments. God's peace Joey. Mr. Ed

Learn something new each time you show us a new video. Thank you! I wish I knew the honey would just drain out of crushed comb before I had invested in a small fruit press. That process works too but is really messy and much more labor intensive. Is there a reasonable limit to how high the crushed comb pile can be and still get most of the honey to drain out?
@JeffHorchoff
@JeffHorchoff 4 жыл бұрын
I have filled the colander to the top, and that's a BIG colander, and still have the comb dry by the next day. Of course, if I let it sit a bit longer I'd get more honey, but I don't mind sharing with my bees the spoils of war. Thanks for watching. God's peace Larry. Mr. Ed
