Thank you so much Jeff and Charlie for finally getting all these bees out of our house! We had a great time watching y'all work (and tasting the honey!) and learned a lot - by far the coolest experience that I hope we never have to do again. 😅 And I love that we get to relive the experience and have it immortalized on KZbin! I decided to subscribe and boy I’m glad I did. My husband and I are retired Nurse and Pharmacist. His Grandfather did bees and we decided we would like to also help raise bees. We only know what little we remember from his Grandfather so we probably could use help. We have 2 hives in our yard off Robinson Road and a hive in our son’s yard in Covington. We missed catching a swarm to keep We weren’t prepared for them to swarm as soon as they did. You are a wealth of information.

Never gets old: vacuuming up bees. Fascinates me for some reason. I get a kick out of how much the bees ignore the person cutting away their hive and vacuuming up everyone. Obviously, some bees notice, but for the most part, they continue doing bee things.
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
You make a great point, how unconcerned the bees appear to be as to what is happening at the moment. The simple truth is that those bees that seem to be unconcerned are that way because they are completely absorbed into doing the job they are assigned to do. There are other bees who's job it is to defend the hive, and those are the ones that attack and sting me. But because more bees are needed to tend to the new brood and the maintenance of the hive, the newest, and least experienced bees are assigned that duty.I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 8 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. Thank you Mr. Ed for your compassionate care and Charlie bear for being the fearless cameraman. I believe God watches over those who watch over his. And you service both the human and the bee communities so you're likely to be doubly blessed, but I have so many questions. How do you identify drones from the working brood if they're all crawling over the comb. I did do.some.research since our last exchange and learned how to gender bees. Also what is an uncapped brood? Is that like when there's an egg lain in the cell but not covered with wax? That's the only kind of capping I could think of.
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
Thank you Christin, we do love sharing our bee wrangling experiences and are very grateful that you take the time to watch them. To answer your questions: Drone brood is distinguished by the way they pultrude from the face of the comb, about 1/8 th of an inch. Uncapped brood is the larva that is not old enough and still is being fed by the bees. Once the feeding stops, the cell is capped and remains so until the fully developed bee emerges. Again, thanks for watching, and until the next time, God's peace. Mr. Ed

Does the vacuum heard the bees are make it easier to transport them
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
Because the bee vac is specially designed not to harm bees due to it's low suction, it is one of the best tools I have when I rescue bees. There are many advantages in using a bee vac, one being like you suggest, ease of transport, but also it speeds up the process of removing the bees by confining them all in one spot. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. After all the videos I watched of yours, I should have known better. Thanks again. Great story telling always. So positive and inspiring!

Love seeing you wangl bee's and learn from you. Have you ever came across hostel hot hive bee/s or aficnized bees?
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
The first video link below is about a very hot hive we removed back in October. As you will see for yourself, not happy bees at all. However, if you also check out the second link, you will see a drastic difference in the same hive just a few weeks later. And finally, if you check out the third link, you will see all the honey we got from this hive. Let me know what you think. Thanks for watching. God's peace Estee. These video's are really interesting to me. My Dad took care of bees for a couple of years many years ago, when I was 13 - 15. It was fun and interesting then too. My question is, what can people put in the newly emptied space to prevent another swarm of bees moving into there?
@JeffHorchoff9 ай бұрын
The best thing to put in the space is insulation, it matters not the exact type, but whichever one is used, the space needs to be filled ENTIRELY! Also, any crack or opening on the exterior of the structure needs to be closed off as well using calk or other hard drying material. This will deter bees from ever finding the space inside the structure. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Alan. Mr. Ed

What a hive! How many times to you typically get stung while doing a removal.
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
There in really not a "typical"stings taken while doing a removal, but 4 or 5 is an average. On this removal it was about 7 or 8. Thanks for watching. God's peace Ralph. Mr. Ed

Another amazing video y'all. Great work. I happened to have a thought. I love your videos and how you're gentle and professional with removals and don't seem to use any smoke. My thoughts though? Have you ever tried using a large red spotlight? One that bright enough. But won't fog photo paper too much. That may seem odd, a light that doesn't fog photo paper too much? How woukd that correlate? Much like photo paper, bee don't have much sensitivity to the infrared or near infrared end of the light spectrum. So if it doesn't fog photo paper much, it shoukd be barely visible to the bees. It light help get that queen sooner, rather than her scampering off or possibly down in a crevice somewhere that isn't reachable. Or perhaps one of those head lamps with the red light used for night time while out camping or whatnot. It couldbbe a bust that doesn't work. But if you know anyone chat does analog photography and has some old black and white paper laying around, it might be worth it to get a couple spotlight or fog light bulbs that are red, try them out to test how much light that's outside the red spectrum is actually being emitted, and then give it a try to see if it works better than one of those blue-ish (ultraviolet heavy) LED lights. I may have no effect. Or might prove to be a worth while experiment.

I have seen several video on bee wranglers wrangling bees at night using red lights, and it does not disturb the bees like a white light does. However, a red light would not give me enough light to see clearly what I'm looking at so for that reason I use a regular flash light. Thanks for watching and for your suggestion, it is greatly appreciated. God's peace Ivan. Mr. Ed

@@JeffHorchoff thank you for your reply. Yes, I kinda of figured. My eyes are not as good as they were 5 years ago. So I understand. Again, thank you for your reply. God bless and keep you and Charlie.

Mr Ed, when you first started removing the comb I thought I was watching a 628 Dirt Rooster video! Then when you put your jacket on, it clicked in my mind that just because it’s in Mississippi and no jacket doesn’t mean its Randy. lol. I should have known before then because Charlie doesn’t film for Randy. lol. All joking aside that was a very large colony! I hope it does great in it’s new home.

The rain and all the bees being cooped up in the hive was probably the reason why they were being so hot right?
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
It certainly contributed to their behavior, but it all worked out for the bees and the homeowner. Why is the comb soft? Is it cause of the pollen they get around that area or is it the moister from the humidity Jeff?
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
The reason it is soft is because it is very new and has not had time enough to harden up. It hardens up by having things stored inside of the cell. The more the cell is used, the harder the entire structure becomes. Thanks for watching. God's peace Hayden. Mr. Ed

Jeff QUESTION, his do u take all those stings and not get sick or swell up? I get a sting and it's hospital time , lol
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
I assure you, I have no special ability to withstand bee stings. As a matter of fact, I hate getting stung which is why I mostly wear a bee jacket. However, due to the restrictions a jacket has, poor visibility and over heating, I remove it whenever possible. Also, I would not recommend that others do as I do. Thanks for watching. God's peace Betty. Mr. Ed
