Crushing Slicks and slamming wheelie bars leaning the chassis and unloading left rear slick! Too much Anti Squat crushing slicks sidewalls. Big tire slicks with 4 links and more than 100% Anti Squat! 4 link tuning track testing results. Drag Racing Suspension Tuning with track testing results.

This video covers our very first trip to the track with the blown SBC in the 48 Ford Coupe. As you will see I severely underestimated the torque of this Alkydigger setup race 8-71 with Enderle Bird Catcher Methanol injection. In addition, the wheelie bars are not sufficient for this power level so we will be replacing these wheelie bars over the winter with stronger and unsprung top bars.
Special thanks to Tommy Krupa at South Carolina Motorplex!
I also cover the changes we are making to correct these issues so we can try to get a full pass before the tracks close for winter.

Kevin you have a real knack for tackling the subject of vehicle dynamics, kinematics and compliance and breaking them down into a real world applied subject where we non-engineers can make adjustments on our race cars that make sense to us and improve performance. You surely must have been paying attention when your Dad was speaking. It will be no time at all before you guys have that '48 nose moving towards the finish line instead of the sky. Thanks for the entertaining and informative videos. Peter from Trackside Tire, Hoosier Dealer, BIR Minnesota.

Hi Kevin loved your videos. Just calculated our AS and IC on our 71 Chevelle and found out our AS is at 166% @ 43.5 inches. Our best 60 is 1.43 but normally run 1.47 on decent track prep and condition days. When the weather is HOT and the track is greasy we have a hard time being consistent. I did calculations on lowering our rear control arms to 2" and that would put the AS @ 126% with the IC 51.25". We run a 29x9 Hoosier slick with 12lbs and we run a N/A 406 on trans brake leaving at 5000. We just ordered the relocation brackets and hopefully, this will help with being more consistent on hot days. What is your opinion on the relocation brackets and trying to lower the AS number and extend the IC number. Also to maybe help you could you use more preload on the right side of your anti-roll bar to help keep it straighter during launching. Just my 2 cents for what its worth. Keep T&T and be safe Mike
@KevinWilsonSBC
@KevinWilsonSBC 3 жыл бұрын
mike balzer thanks so much for your comments and info on the Chevelle! We have had success with extending the IC to help with weight transfer and not shocking the tire too hard on initial hit. Rear shocks with proper valving will be key to help control the car for sure. A 2" move is a big move but the real deal is testing. Do you have any good video of your car leaving the line so you can see what is happening with the slick? Thanks for the info on the rear ARB for the 48. I will definitely be extending the right rear side a tad more to help not let the chassis dip over the right rear slick. Go fast, go straight! Be Safe!!

No disrespect but this is absolutely not true. Pinion angle change by itself has nothing to to with wheelstand unless you changed the pinion angle by also moving other suspension geometry.

I’m in the same position. Hitting the tire too hard and not enough air pressure. Add air pressure, spins tires. What I have gathered is this. The more anti squat you have the more shock (rebound/compression) you need but, if you pedal it you will have less chances of recovering the tire. The less anti squat (100-105) the less shock you need, the more neutral the suspension and now the front end is how to control weight transfer. More bite, less front end travel and tighter front rebound. I hate suspension 🤦🏻‍♂️
