@@Listman234 9 combos of KQ to 6 combos of KK/QQ. More likely that someone calls PF with KQ, and KK/QQ likely 3B. With that in mind there's more KQ than straight up 9:6. Add in a small amount of weird bluffs, AA, AK, random 2p and a set of 22 is printing money.

When caller said unconventional, I immediately thought KK/QQ. She was out of the small blind. And was intending to trap the button only, but when she flopped top set, she can trap again. Her speech would make me play it slower. Not many people talk unless they're awfully comfortable. Also. 6 combos of KK/QQ and 9 KQ. It's not that many more combos.

I used to call with bottom set on a dry board with only a bet size stack behind me, and avoided losing all against a better set, very similar situation with this, but as Bart said, which I agree, there should be no call here, either fold or shove given the stack behind is so small. Against a standard player, I'm happy to get this all in and expect to win a large majority of the time. But as soon as the caller mentioned this player is unconventional, you can't play the hand standard as well. These types of villains love to trap big hands. I wouldn't be surprised if villain had KQ that they would of just donk lead this board on flop instead. When I get check raised on turn with bottom set, I'm very concerned and play it defensively.

A number of reasons: 1. You are strongly disincentivized from playing small pots as the amount of money taken out of the pot is worth too large a percentage of the pot to make bluffing as profitable. 2. The hands that you play at the bottom of your standard opening range may only be worth 1 or less than 1 big blind in ev that disappears after the drop. 3. You have to play tight and are therefore less likely to get action on big hands.

This is where reading comes in, if she is a good player (must have some skills) would she call with KQ preflop? But she called and check raised, that is definitely better than KQ. If you are not sure just call you can save almost 2k.

exactly! When players start talking about "results oriented", "exploitative play", "number of combo draws", "raising/calling certain % of time", ...bla, bla - then you know they have no clue about hand reading. . In this particular case, if reading says: she is better than two pairs of KQ, then it's easy to make a difficult decision easy. BTW, holding Micky mouse set while facing a cat hammer must be a warning sign to a serious player.

I think Bart has it wrong on this one and the caller's friends are correct. Villain has acknowledged that she thinks we're betting really big compared to the pot. So she thinks we're polarized. We're check-raising an uncapped range and a caller on the flop, and going for big size. For her to raise KQ for value after this action, she is hoping we have a worse 2 pair, and there just aren't very many of those. She may not put any K2 / Q2 in our range in fact. Meanwhile, 22 is clearly looming. Mix in that most amateurs are risk averse, and I doubt many are attacking with KQ here. Add in that villain is trappy / tricky, and I expect to lose a lot.

It's a cooler, I'd absolutely jam all in. The villain is repping mad strength but it's not 400bb deep, it's 100bb. It's way more likely that she has some two pair combo than KK/QQ.
@brendonw456
@brendonw456 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say WAY more likely. There's 3 KK, 3 QQ, and 9 KQ. We can SAFELY say that any other draw hands are out with her remark on the flop call. She's got a STRONG made hand there, and two pair honestly SEEMS extremely weak for the way she acted on every street. But for posterity, we'll include the top Two Pair. So with the range she has, the ratio for Two Pair to sets is 9:6 or 3:2 So for every THREE king-queen combos, there's TWO oversets. The 2s have 60% equity now (beating 9 out of 15 possible hands). This is completely removing the info she's already let on though. She absolutely broadcasted that her hand was utterly nutted. And from the way he described her as "just...is"...I can just tell she looooooves to stay quiet, blend in, and look for trap opportunities. This trap...this one is a diamond

Hero check raising the flop for that sizing AND continuing to barrel on turn is extremely strong. Especially on that board. Hero is repping 2-pair at the minimum (with exception of J10 as his bluff combo). So for villain to call hero's huge x-raise on flop and then x-raise hero on turn, villain is extremely value heavy here. So unless villain is a complete donk, most villains would not play KQ this way -- especially OOP. I understand that villain did not 3! pre, but hero has stated villain's unconventional play-style. Villain played it fishy too. Flatting preflop with Kings...and why not just jam the river? Anyways, hero played it fine... but I think I am flatting the river. The pot is already massive and I want to minimize going broke with bottom set type of hands. That is the problem with entering multiway pots with 22.

Agreed: C/R with KQ after the previous action , on this board, is very likely an overplay, when her hand blocks both K2s/Q2s; -hands that even have to strongly consider folding after her massive display of strength. But, as 22 is the strongest we will ever have here, we have to call down, crying.

Wow.... this hand shocked me. It's 3 handed with a woman player in SB. The PFR continues on flop. She calls with a player behind her. That player raises & BTN folds. She calls & gives a speech tell. Then check-raises the turn. Hero calls. I agree with the caller, his hand is nearly face up. The chance of me raising the river here is 0%. I see KQ as the bottom of her range, which is a total of 3 hands.

Given that she plays unconventionally, that tiny river bet is screaming for a call with a hand that’s afraid to get a fold if she does the standard thing and shoves…especially since she knows she blocks a ton of hero’s value. Combined with her small x-raise on the turn after being check raised on the flop, I just don’t think many opponents would be doing this for thin value with KQ…. This feels like one of those hands where I know I’m probably beat based on reads but end up making the call or worse shove based on MDF and knowing 22 is the best possible hand I can have here. I’m trying to get better about making the unconventional fold in these scenarios unless I have prior evidence someone is willing to take aggressive lines with small sizing for thin value or bluffs (which is basically never the case in most live poker). Sure, in theory this means I’m exploitable but I don’t think it will happen enough to net out negative

I may have raised the turn all-in myself. KK and QQ are unlikely: there was no 3bet PF and no CR on the flop. Hero was allowed to call for free on the flop behind. There are more two-pair hands, AK, JT or random bluffs that SB may do this with. If you're folding or just calling down this set on such a dry board, you're playing way too weak.

This lady has to be one of the biggest spots in the bay area poker scene if she's playing $10/$20. Talk about butchering a hand and still getting max value.

I put her on queen queen right away. She's in the small blind so she should be raising with those King Queens as blockers so she doesn't have to play oop 3 ways.

Clues that gave her strength away was : 1)Why is she check calling on the flop and then check raising the turn when the 8 was likely inconsequential? (Only after the original raiser folded no need to fool around just build a pot). 2) river small raise smells of value bet so bad No body is going to check raise with two pair on the turn. It all gave a signs of a set. You had two opportunities to fold and save a lot .😊😂

It's easier to call, lose and then just call it a "cooler". Blame a cooler. It's never me. Always that damn poker variance that makes me losing huge.

The caller’s friends saying he should have just called the bet on the river are just being super results oriented. She has KQ so much more often than KK/QQ and no way is she folding.

6 combos of KK/QQ and 9 combos of KQ. It's not that much more often. Key idea is that the villian is "unconventional", this means KK/QQ is not unbelievable.

@@DescartesRenegade she might be “unconventional” but I’d still be willing to bet she raises KK/QQ preflop some of the time hence those 6 combos are shaded somewhat. But even if you know they have all 6 combos it’s still a raise because 9 is bigger than 6.
