This is a bike I have wanted to make for some time, I dreamt it up on a bike ride with my friend Jack. It was completed last year in June 2021.
Some of its highlights include-
Shimano Dura-Ace 7800 Derailleurs
Velocity Blunt SS/ Chris King Wheelset
650B x 48 Rene Herse Switchback Hill Tires
Rene Herse Rando Handlebars
Nitto Stem and Seat post
Paul Klamper Disc Brakes
SON Dynamo Hub and Light
White Industries 2x Crankset
Retroshift Shifter
Monoblock 10s Cassette (11-32)
I, unfortunately, did not shoot the bike right after it was completed I went out and rode it and then forgot to video it for some time.
After about 1000 miles of riding the only issues I had was
the bartape slipping which can be fixed with some double-sided tape and having no bag yet for the back, so I took off the Carridice Bagman support in the mean time. I as well had to double wrap the rims with wider tape after about a month of riding due to the tire pressure slowly dropping over a week. This is when the last shots were filmed. It has been an awesome bike, well balanced, and capable.

Technically, and more precisely, 'tapping' is cutting or forming threads into a hole to allow a bolt to be screwed in. What he's doing here is known as 'chasing threads' with a tap. You might also chase threads when there's rust or damage to the threads.

@@mangpots7284 simply the style of bike. Over history frame styles change. In the 1960’s was the fashion to have large frames and small amount of seatpost exposed. Then over time has become the trend to have lots of seatpost exposed and more compact frame with sloping top tube. Seat height from pedals to seat the same..seat tube shorter.

I didn't see any frame prep besides the tapping going on. On a frame this nice, I'll assume it was done already. I always do this before I assemble a high quality frame, Even if I can see it's already been done. Just as a means for my own quality assurance. I find it enjoyable and satisfying. If you want your components to function their best, the bike to handle correctly, your bearings to be well aligned and last as long as possible, you ream and face the head tube, mill the fork crown, tap and face the BB shell, check/correct alignment of the dropouts, then inspect frame alignment carefully. Professional builders will do ALL these things before a single component is assembled on the frame. Pro mechanics have done so on bikes for over a century. It's what will help a bike run perfectly smooth and reliable.

@@cosinus_square if you don't do that what are the consequences? Does the paint prohibit screws from beeing fit correctly or does it just make it a bit harder to get them in? Or does it potentially damage the thread in the long run, since there are extra particles grinding in the thread?
@cosinus_square
@cosinus_square Жыл бұрын
@@prokopf-9332 Yes, screws won't fit properly, if forced they may even seize or brake a braze-on mount in some cases if not careful. Some major things can go wrong as well like cross threading and misalignment of bottom bracket cups or rear derailleur mounting bolt. Incorrect fit and torque settings resulting in damage to carbon fibre components like cranks or seatposts, reduced performance and service life for disc brake calipers or bottom bracket bearings. Facing and thread chasing helps avoid damage to paint around threaded or press fit areas as well. OP is building this bike for himself but bike building is generally a service provided by bike shops to customers, if any damage results from the build process, the bike shop will be liable for damaging customer property. For example, damaging paint on a brand new Pegorreti frame can possibly make a bike shop liable for thousands in paint repair costs alone.Well worth spending the money and time for tools and process if one is part of this trade.
