But wouldn't it be weird if a show based on eastern asian culture suddenly started celebrating christmas, a christian holiday? I'm also pretty sure that there are probably in-universe kid stories about Santa, elves and gingerbreadmen, it could also explain why Kai was sscared of gingerbreadmen and elves. Maybe elves and gingergreadmen are antagonists in a kids story to make children behave nicely, just how there are real life stories and fairytales about evil witches hiding in the woods and trying to eat abandoned kids. I think it's way cooler if ninjago had its own unique holidays like Day of the Departed, Nya's memorial day and whatever the ninjago citizens were celebrating in the first ep of SoG. It's kinda lame if they just take real life holidays and slap them into ninjago

I agree! If they wanted to do a Christmas special they should absolutely take the DOTD route and make an original holiday that's vaguely based on the holiday in question (in this case Christmas)
@gigikju993411 ай бұрын
Tbf…I feel like Ninjago has strayed pretty far from its eastern Asian roots. I still think it’d be cool to have some sort of vague equivalent. With the merge, it’s possible that they could throw in some other realm’s equivalent of Christmas and have that be introduced instead of outright making Christmas cannon. On another note…a lot more things have Christian roots than you think. For example: “goodbye” is, if I’m not mistaken, short for “God be with ye”

They dumbed it way down for children, and they threw all character development out the window that theses characters have developed over many seasons! They changed the whole vibe, and structure of the show. The dialogue is no longer funny and they switched to a more childish comedy route. @ultrasonic73611 ай бұрын
I have a theory about this. Christmas used to be in the world of Ninjago, but it's not anymore. At the end of The Hands of Time, after the ninja change the past, it altered the future and changes the ninja's faces, which is how we get the new designs for the ninja. But I think them changing the past changed more of the future than we thought. First of all, at the very next season, we see...royalty in Ninjago?! Like, if that was always there from season one, wouldn't we have heard about it by now in the last seven seasons? Unless it wasn't always there, but the ninja changing the past made the existence of Ninjago royalty. But what if the time travel also changed something else? Christmas. It sadly took away Christmas from Ninjago, which is why we can hear references to Christmas before The Hands of Time, but never again hear it after that season

I know the video hasn't started yet but I think that while yes, the Christmas references are lines of dialogue, they're weirdly specific as if the holiday or its concepts exist. A lot of the shooting down of the idea of the holiday's existence comes from Tommy and with all due respect to him (I respect his impact on Ninjago but definitely not his at least borderline racist tweet during Crystalized's international release), but Tommy kinda took this "its a fantasy show" take with Ninjago where if the show didn't abide by its own internal logic, Tommy would sometimes chock it up too "well, it doesn't follow real life logic." Younger me asked him about the weird logic at the end of Day of the Departed or Hands of Time, I forget which. And he replied "the show has talking snakes" or something like that, even though I wasn't comparing the show to real logic, but holding it accountable to its own internal logic. Tommy has never used this logic towards the Christmas mentions and references, at least notvto my knowledge, and I don't wanna put words in his mouth and say "I have a strong feeling he would because he said this" (though some things in his farewell stream with TTV show that there were still times recently where the show didn't stick to its own internal logic because they felt like writing something, though they are human, humans forget, and there's other factors as well). But I bring this up to mention another thing, Ninjago's Twitter lore, aka something not in the show, which whether in line with or not is stated by a crew member in canon and thus, adds to the lore, often in major ways. These two things coincide because Tommy says there's no Christmas and he's one of the main forces behind the IP's creation. So there must be no Christmas. But the show doesn't corroborate this. And that brings us to internal logic because again, something that's internally in the show is being ignored. Christmas is eluded to on multiple occasions, though not by name. Now, whether this is due to it being a fantasy show is debatable, but the show having things in it or logic that is thrn contradicted by the crew behind it, on any basis, is confusing. This isn't some hate piece towards Tommy. I'm just saying that some of his approaches to the show's logic on social media are contradictory to what's stated in the show. I can take things like Zane's treadmill line because even if Earth's calendar doesn't exist in Ninjago, its just an object being attributed to a year, a year which could still exist given how long Ninjago's existed. But why reference Christmas characters as if the characters knew who they are if they don't exist? Should we believe the Twitter lore which says it doesn't exist? Or the show that implies aspects of it do.

The thing with Tommy talking about Christmas and it needing Christianity… it doesn’t. Christmas is a fundamentally pagan holiday with a religious subtext sticky-taped on. Santa Claus and the iconography of him actually originated from… Scandinavia?? Might have to fact check that. But somewhere in Northern Europe is where the idea of a person coming down the chimney to give gifts originates from. I’m pretty sure it at least. Additionally, a large volume of the traditions surrounding Christmas, namely the feasting, originates from the pagan festival Yuletide. In fact, Halloween as a celebration also has its roots in the pagan festival for Autumn. So too does Easter, however only the egg hunting element and general Spring vibes. Like Christmas, Easter is a conglomerate of a Christian holiday and traditional pagan festival for Spring. It does beg the question what the hell happened to the summer festival, but that’s besides the point. TLDR, Christmas can exist without Christianity and in fact shares it’s roots with festivals like Halloween. The fact that a Halloween adjacent festival canonically exists in Ninjago not only means a Christmas adjacent festival CAN exist, it absolutely should

@@Pawe10-cs3uy It is with pagan roots, and mostly exists as, let's call it, roman propaganda (not 100% accurate). The romans had a holiday, saturnalia around the same time until some emperor, forgot his name rn, decided that Jesus was kinda cool and decided to adopt christianity. As saturnalia didn't make much sense when believing in Christianity they kinda replaced it with the more fitting holiday known as Christmas, putting his birth right there. While conquering different cultures they noticed that many of them had similar festivities during a similar time Yule(tide) and other winter solistice holidays (including saturnalia). As these holidays were popular among pagan cultures, yule(tide) being popular in "norse" cultures, This was quite useful in getting them absorbed into their culture. So they explained to them that this really cool guy called Jesus, was born on a specific day during solistice and that they should celebrate him as he is the son of that really cool god they had. Many parts of christmas were established during that cultural assimilation, including stuff like the christmas tree or later Santa riding on a chariot, which was possibly inspired by Odins wild hunt. This mostly helped them to get people to behave and trust the romans, while also spreading the word of their God. Kinda similar things happended with easter where a celebration of the goddess Ēostre was turned into celebrating the big J's resurrection. In short, Romans suddenly liked Christianity and used it as propaganda so everybody likes them more. Fun.

When it comes to Christmas it is a religious celebration, much like other celebrations such as Ramadan , Eid, etc. A lot of franchises put Christmas. I am happy ninjago isn’t going down this path due to Christmas being a religious celebration related to Christianity. Although it is the most popular holiday, I don’t think that it should be added just due to the fact not everyone is Christian or celebrates Christmas.
