I wonder how Assad felt flying off from that russian airbase knowing it would be the last time he would ever see his country again, knowing that his and his family's legacy will forever go down in infamy and he will be despised by the Syrian people until the end of time

The Russians' decision not to send military backing sealed Assad's fate. His downfall and eventual departure were all but certain. On the one hand I can understand the need for secrecy surrounding his exit, but on the other hand, to have abandoned those closest to him and left them up to their inevitable disastrous fate was cold and selfish. But then again, aren't those the traits that characterize dictators? I just hope that somehow the Syrian people can recover the billions he and his wife stole and then go on to pick up the pieces and rebuilt their country and respective lives.
@lazygamer7469

It was obvious that the terrorists, mercenaries, and turkish soldiers would overrun Syria because the elite soldiers of Syria were all wasted on Ukraine, while Hezbollah and Iran's hold on Syria has been weakened by Israel, the SDF had no intention from the start to defend Syria as a whole. Russia has always been merely content on supporting by missile strikes but that is meaningless if there's no motivated army to actually put up resistance. In sum, the drone attacks and continuous exchange of turkmen/mercs/and turkish soldiers plus the bombing of Israel of facilities and coordinating officers have depleted the Syrian nonKurd army. Kurds have always been unwilling to defend the Syrian nation and have even facilitated the attacks of the enemy. Thats the fate of a weak country with internal disunity and which is bordered by two strong nations. There's just a lot of divisive lines that were easily exploited by Turkey, US and Israel. Now Erdogan's foreign legion just got reinforced and can be thrown to the next nearby target. There seems to be a trend in letting religous islamists take control of governments worldwide.

putin had little choice other than to accept assad on humanitarian grounds after spending soo much time, effort & lives protecting him. And no doubt putin is currently focused on assads money which shouldn't take long to aquire, which will go into his war efforts. Still odd to hear russians using words like Humanitarian etc esspecially as thousands of russians have died under the reign of there Tyrant.

He literally built Russian-like dictatorship in my country, based on corruption and the Ukrainian army has no real victories since 2022 counter offensive, so many men died. That’s why I definitely support the initiatives of the formal and future U.S president Donald Trump to give less money to our corrupted Zelensky-Yermak regime and stop the war. He fled because he had no fight left in him, all his allies are engaged in their own wars elsewhere. Russia weren't willing to finance a pro-Assad offensive even with men in the ground, Iran is busy with Israel while Hesbollah is engaged with Israel as well. He is a lucky man, he would have been fed to snakes if he deluded himself that he could fight off the coalitions of revolutionaries. Nothing decent about fleeing "to save lives" when you have actually ended around a million human lives like dogs.

What unfolded was a real stage managed drama. ISIS haven't won, and Assad hasn't lost. There was no fight at all, and ISIS just had old toyotos and stolen arms. It was pre decided upon that Govt forces would just abandon and surrender. Assad had lost the support of Russia and Iran. U.S. and EU wanted to stop syrian refugee problem. A sort of understanding was reached between Turkey, Russia, Germany, US and Iran. ISIS was given a free run and suddenly ISIS weren't called terrorist, rather as rebels. Hence nothing much would happen at the ground level, one puppet replaced with another new puppet. The show would go on, with the strings being controlled by Turkey, and US.

Now the same group, is supporting this new outfit. Turkiye is going to manage Syria now. There was no war at all in Syria, until foreign intelligence agencies started creating, new groups and Syria was used as a play ground. Always remember, without money, nothing will move in this world. Even ISIS needs funding.
