It's unbelievable. Every important ministry in Syria is staffed with someone that's smart and capable and with some experience/qualifications. And they all seem to be working diligently to pursue Syria's best interests. I can't believe I'm seeing this in my lifetime. Just 5 weeks ago, I thought I'll live and die in exile. What a time to be alive.
@WaelYakti16 күн бұрын
don't you think a foreign minister should at least be able to communicate in decent English? We are all happy about the change... but at some point positions should be based on qualification and not "loyalty". An agricultural engineering doesn't seem to be the right "qualification" for a defense ministry, a school teacher is also not! When the foreign minister cant speak a decent English its a disaster for the image and for the function. PhD students have to also publish in English, present in conferences in English, and preferable write the thesis in English. This is the case for all respectful universities worldwide. So not being able to talk says a lot.

As an American, its refreshing to hear politicians actually directly answer questions with thoughtful and meaningful responses. I know promises sometimes mean very little in politics. But now is a better time than ever for Syria to become as prosperous as it once was. A beacon of Arab culture and wealth, inclusive of all the varying demographics that encompass it. It was Iran's fault. In a meeting between Russia, Iran, and Turkey, they (Iran in particular) promised Turkey that Assad will not retake the Idlib area, hence stopping the 2019-2020 offensive short. Assad's troops were explicitly discouraged from finishing the job. This gave Turkey's proxies a vital breathing space, rebuilding their strength for 4 years after the ceasefire. And the rest is history. You can say Turkey out played Iran.

How appropriate that 2025 marks the centenary of the Great Syrian Revolt, in defense of a constitution and government inspired by the ideals of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, with respect for regional autonomy and civil rights. At the time, Europe (and France in particular) saw itself as holding the paternal yardstick to measure whether Syrians were "ready" to govern their own affairs, and cynical colonial politics would spell tragedy for Syrian democracy. It would be great if Europe could learn from history the way Syrians have since they began their uprising in Daraa, in both the 20th and 21st centuries. The international community should be a facilitator, not a disruptor.
