I was the first person to spar Umar here in the states. He got off the plane and immediately came to train, so he didn't have jet lag. At the time, I was a 6' , 18-year old, 165lber with 10 years of martial arts competition experience. He was sooooooo hard to hit! An absolute technician with his striking. In the 5th round, he countered a jab of mine (where I was reaching) with a "teep" kick right to my solarflexes. Took the wind right outta me 😂

Also merab had a longer path to the title cause he lost his first two ufc fights and wasn't very exiting.... Thats why, and on top of that he refused to fight aljo which made it even longer, Umar is undefeated 18-0 beat everyone he ever faved and is exiting, famous, and nobody ranked wanted to fight him other than cory... Even people not ranked didn't want to fight him. Lets not ignore the fact umar has beaten everyone he ever faces and is the longest wining streak in the weight class with 18-0 wins... Plus 8-0 in the ufc with 5 finishes...

Arman is not a grappler. He's a wrestler with basic bjj hence his lack of submissions and this is why Gamrot gave him problems (he won that fight though) He's a better freestyle wrestler than Islam but the champ has the variation of takedowns with his judo/sambo base, with the usual trips and body-locks come. He also has better muay thai with nasty elbows and knees and as a southpaw he has that kick to the body that he deployed against Volk. Arman almost got subbed by Charles from a pretty basic setup, so although he can wrestle he better avoid all grappling transitions despite his amazing ground & pound. I do think Arman will want to wrestle but I think Islam will accept fighting from the clinch the entire fight. All that said, Islam tactics are Jon Jones esque and it's really hard to beat the Dagestanis at strategy despite Arman having one of the best coaches in the game.

Exactly. Islam went 5 rounds with a prime Poirier who in my opinion would have beat anyone else that night. The champ finds a way to win the fight, elite IQ and both physical and technical abilities to end any fight at any given moment. We need Islam vs The welterweights like Shavkhat, Garry, JDM and it's only then the world is gonna realise that Makachev is the baddest man on the planet
