I can't find the year right now, but I believe the song wasn't written until around 1963. An artist named Cholli Maye was the first to record it, if my info source is correct. When they were looking for a song to use in Jersey Boys showing how the group's "sound" was first created, one of the staff dug through Gaudio's songs and proposed it be used in the famous scene.

Suprisingly ,this song did hit charts in 1966. For a short time it hit 112 . Seems like a high number but this was a time where we can work it out and paint it black we’re out. Not sure how this didn’t make it on to the album

Think the train wreck way that they start the song takes something away from the vocals - and the backing singers sound a little dated in 2016. But overall a great song. I thought most of the soundtrack (from the Jersey Boys movie) wasn't as strong as the play but I thought Cry For Me was one of the highlights.

It's not that I don't like this version. I LOVE Franki's voice, but in my opinion the guy who did it in the movies vocals were better For The Song. Plus I've always hated how they begin and end the song. The movies arrangement was just much better too.
