I think the drummer deserves as much recognition as Frankie Valli. His drumming is awsome and his voice is the best one in the group. Even though Frankie has that distinctive voice, many of the best songs of this group would be nothing without the drummers voice.

Gerry Polci! Yeah, his voice was superb. His voice made "December 1963, Oh What a Night" the gigantic hit it was, and the classic it will always be.
@actionsub2 жыл бұрын
@@perseusjoppa426 The contributions of Polci and Don Ciccone (tall guy with afro) cannot be understated. Due to hearing loss, Frankie was having problems carrying all the lead singing at the time. Ciccone had been a lead singer himself in the 60s ("Mr. Dieingly Sad" by the Critters). Polci aided by Ciccone helped carry the weight. This particular incarnation of the Four Seasons was more than the sum of its parts.

I love the intense, 3:29 serious, sweating concentration on Frankie' s face. He took his music VERY seriously. It was this sort of devotion which made the 4 Seasons the great group that they were. It was not uncommon in those days to have to record 5 to 15+ takes of a song, before the group got one of them perfect. Richie Valens went though that as well. Frankie was just 41 when this was recorded. But he looks older to me. I guess all the stresses aged him.

THE MAN IS A TIMELESS CLASSIC
@kenperk98543 жыл бұрын
If you want to see what 50s. 60s and 70s artists went through to make a single record, back in the day. Example Lynyrd Skynyrd traveled from Florida to Sheffield, Alabama to record without a penny to their names. The whole band stayed in a one bedroom at Balews' truck stopwhich coincidentally, was torn down a couple ofdays ago). During the day, they walked the streets of the little towns in the Muscle Shoals area, picking up coke bottles and taking them to a store for 2 cents a piece. They bought a jar of peanut butter and a box of ccrackers with that big windfall. Each night they got in fist fights with big, mean, truckers because of their long hair but they hung in there until one of the Legendary Swampers (JimmyJohnson) gave them free studio time after midnight. Can you imagine a musician in the last 40 or 50 years, hanging in there like that? I'll answer for you....HELL NO! So give a ton of respect to the musicians, singers, songwriters and producers who set the stage for later people. Almost all are gone now except for their blood Sweat&tears. They went through hell compared to the softies of the last few decades.
