In a late-model Ford, she was stopped at a light
In the other lane, I pulled up on her right
I looked through our windows, and saw something strange
She was crying at the stoplight, waiting for the light to change
Did a sad song come on the radio
Or had someone done her wrong, there was no way to know
But she had the saddest face I think I’d ever seen
Crying at the stoplight waiting for the light to turn green
She saw me looking, she cast a glance my way
But she didn’t try to hide what she was feeling that day
She wept without shame, didn’t seem to care
Just crying at the stoplight, on her way somewhere
Holding back is impossible at times
When sadness takes hold of your mind
It was none of my business, but I couldn’t help but speculate
Cause I’ve been there too, and I could relate
Did somebody hurt her, just like somebody hurt me
She was crying at the stoplight for everyone to see
Crying at the stoplight on a sunny day
No rain to wash the tears away
Just what caused it, I’d never learn
Why she was just crying at the stoplight, waiting for the light to turn
Crying at the stoplight, alone and bereft
Crying at the stoplight, with no hope left
If I could, I would take her pain away
She wouldn’t be crying at the stoplight in the middle of the day
She wouldn’t be crying at the stoplight in the middle of the day
