For those looking for some clarification for the cutscene： Pigsy (Bajie), in his pursuit of Moon Goddess, accidentally bumped into Zi'er (the elder spider lady). Zi'er fell deeply in love with Pigsy at first sight. Later, Pigsy was banished to the mortal realm after exposing the illicit affair between Moon Goddess and the Jade Emperor. Zi'er willingly gave up her immortality to follow Pigsy. Through nine reincarnations, Pigsy wandered, and Zi'er waited. Pigsy transformed from a demon to a Buddha, while Zi’er descended from a deity to a demon. Their destinies, once intertwined, drifted further apart. After completing the fifth chapter, we discover that Pigsy didn't deny their past but feared acknowledging it. Due to the Heavenly Court's persecution, Pigsy worried that being with him would endanger Zi'er, so he resolutely chose to embark on the Journey to the West. Pigsy, mistakenly reincarnated as a pig, frightened another young lady at the beginning of the story. Yet, despite his pig-like appearance, Zi'er instantly recognized Pigsy's original handsome features in the hot spring. As their hands clasped, Pigsy's initial reaction was self-loathing. In the original work of Journey to the West, there is no love story between Pigsy and Spider Monster. Zhu Bajie was originally a Heavenly Court General, but was punished for sexually harassing the Moon Goddess and turned into a pig. And Zhu Bajie's favorite is his earthly wife. That's the woman in the animation who was scared by the pig head and had three curly hairs on her forehead.

And when he finally returned we can see that he refuses to recognize the girl as his daughter because if he did, the celestial court would most definitely seek revenge on his family. She calls him a fool both now and then not only because bajie mistook the other girl in the video for her, as well as leaving her and his daughter behind for the monkey(journey with wukong), but also because of his fear for the celestial court going after his family, which blinded him, making him unable to see what spider lady really wanted all along, to be with bajie. Or he knew what spider lady wanted all along, but thought that their safety was more important than his personal wants and needs.

This game really made me want to cry. The development team put a lot of effort into every small boss, such many well-designed bosses would definitely be reused multiple times in other games, but this game was so generous as to only let them appear once. I can also see that the fifth and sixth chapters were rushed, as the lack of funding and time didn't allow for too much attention to be paid to the details. However, they made no compromises on the plot, and the main storyline really moved me as a gamer. Great Sage Broken Shell definitely deserves to be my favorite boss in all the games I've played so far. From start to finish, I was thinking I can make Wukong back, and to save him I tired so hard to go through those trials, overcome so many difficulties, and in the end, when the old monkey said that Wukong was dead, my reaction was the same as Bajie - my tears really started to well up. I don’t want to be the other Wukong, I just want to bring him back😭. This is a magnificent and splendid game, and it must be my GOTY.

Yes, Wukong is dead. Bajie misses him a lot, that's why he helps outs new monkey calling him nephew (in Chinese). I am not sure there is someone said Wukong's death is just a plan that Wukong wants freedom only because the crown he wears only drops after he is death. There should be a way he can come back to life as they said Erlang secretly helps him out. Fighting him is just a show to make celestrial court see. Any way, for me, Wukong doesn't make me sad, but Bajie. Yes i am sad for death Wukong but living Bajie is much more torment that he has to go on. what a miserable living !!

Those might be spoilers, but Sun Wukong is NOT dead. He schemed and Erlang helped him. To get rid of Celestial Court de facto slave band, he had Erlang cut his immortality and soul into pieces (Relics and Destined One) and he started to reincarnate again and again to become strong enough to reunite the fragments into a new body that doesn't have that band and is free of Celestial Court influence. His soul being incomplete makes him mute and lack his personality (Baije lampshades that). That is why the final boss isn't some random monkey vs Wukong. It's new self/body Wukong with most of the soul vs old self/body Wukong with remnants of the soul that the reincarnation has yet to collect. Moreover, using this as an oppurtunity, the old self is mentoring the new self, teaching him and showing him the ropes. No matter, the OG Sun Wukong is fully reborn and whether he still is a slave to Celestial Court or fully free depends on your ending

Bajie was a navy general of the celestial court. He was not a mortal/human. He was kinda of Wukong's colleague in the old days serving the celestial court. All 3 of them used to serve the celestial court in different departments. Based on the original story, Bajie is really good at battle underwater, even Wukong admitted that.

That Curios is called "定颜珠", more literal translation is Orb that freeze form/look. It is supposed to keep you young forever. I think it is a gift from Bajie to Zi Zhuer after seeing her gets old. The effect is interesting as well, since the story of these two span across many reincarnated lifetime.

Wait till you get to the Bull Demon King's family's story chapter. Their story is even sadder. Pigsy & Spider story is 'love-story' level sad, Bull's family one is Greek Tragedy level sad. (But that one really requires some backgrounds knowledge in the novel. Otherwise you probably won't be able to get the "Powerlessness in front of Destiny" hidden in a complex narrative)

It is clear Game Science didn't have enough time to do that chapter justice, people familiar with JTTW would know there were so many missed opportunities to turn Bull and Red boy's complicated stories into in-game events. The complexity of the background story in this chapter is greater than the 3 chapters before it, yet it is much shorter to play than the previous 3 chapters. At the current state, the storytelling in chapter 5 was so fragmented and confusing for players not well versed in the JTTW backstory. They'd probably see the Red boy as a spoiled adolescent that's angry and evil for no reason, and the bull demon and his wife spoiled him for no reason. And they'd be confused even more about who's killing who in the chapter ending cinematic, why was the bull demon shown to be dead/decapitated and then later not dead, why did Wukong and Bajie acted like heartless thugs etc. From a business perspective it might be the right decision to release the game now (despite the imperfections) but I really wish in future DLCs they'd expand on this part of the storytelling.

At the beginning i just thought BMW is a medicore, boring soul-like game. Main reasons bring me that thought: invisible walls existing everywhere, chaotic map design, boring gameplay routine(chapter 1). However i found that i got hooked after playing chapter 3 (a lot more content than the first 2 chapters). Moreover, everytime i watched cut sence animation, I really feel that the dev fully put their heart in it. After chapter 4-6, I finally understand they truly have a well planned storyline. And there are a lot of hidden messages inside the game. Especially chapter 4 and the true ending actually impact me a lot emotionally. I don't think a video game can bring so much feeling to me. I don't think the gameplay of BMW can be my top tier game, but it still a masterpiece to me.

Saw a theory on Bilibili, they say the relic from this chapter is missing a lotus seed on the one that the destined one obtained. Check the relic in the menu and compare it to when it first came out of the boss. The theory is Bajie took one of the 7 lotus seeds in the relic out and saved it to revive violet spider later. So who knows, we might have an open ending for this couple.

I break down crying because it reminds me of this universal need to be loved by someone who can love you and your true self. It also connects to my three previous relationships with three different women each loving different aspects of me as an autistic, which for me is like Bajie's true form but in a metaphorical sense, nothing to do with bad karma or bad attributes, only an unfair world treating anyone whose different in such a cruel way. Bajie and Wukong always had the best bromance in traditional Chinese stories. Wukong was a horse tender in the Heavenly Court, but in ancient China it is also believed that monkey urine helps stop horse plague. So people use the phrase “Bi Ma Wen” to insult Wukong. Bi is “avoid”, Ma is “horse”, Wen is “Plague”. This insult always triggers Wukong and earn the guy who uses the phrase a good beating. The only one that ever gets away with it was Bajie. He also used this phrase in some situations in the game but sadly translation is pretty hard, so it just left as “nasty monkey” Also in the original book, when their Master Shifu(Tang San Zang) was caught, Bajie always went like “Oh well this is it let’s retire”; but when Wukong was trapped by yellow brow (in the same thing Bajie was seen trapped in the game), Bajie used all the favors he had back at the Heavenly Court. He even mustered the whole 28 Stars (of which Kangjin Loong and the Rooster boss once was a part of). Usually they won’t all attend even when the Heavenly Emperor(Tiandi) himself calls a meeting/banquet.

So I read the entire book, the preservation orb refers to an orb that’s capable of maintaining the look and body of a king who died from a murder by a yaoguai. The king was later revived by a resurrection pellet, which you can find right beside her tomb. I believe it’s a purposeful setup, so later bajie can have a chance to revive her.
