Couple responses to some comments I've seen here: - ZELLLOOO (the couch commentator) is getting an undeserved bad rap. The audio setup for GDQ is quite complex and allows for tweaking audio track levels to individual headsets. Couch commentary was fairly low on my end and not at all a distraction for me. I'm glad ZELLLOOO was able to do commentary as most of the more active NecroDancer community members weren't able to make it out to GDQ. He did a great job especially considering he was couching a TON of runs in this block, and we had very limited opportunities to really rehearse commentary (though by the game's nature, having completely rehearsed commentary is pretty hard to do anyway). - You have no idea how badly I wanted to make this run a legit all zones mode clear. I practiced pretty much every day for a combined total of literally hundreds of hours ever since this category was accepted. Before the run started, I was even considering a one-time full restart if I died past zone 1. Ultimately though, forgoing consistency and safety in a marathon is an irresponsible route to take when you're sharing the stage with so many other runners. Even if I *had* committed to a legit no-single-zones-mode run and was playing the best NecroDancer of my life (which wasn't happening considering I was getting hammered by a cold I'd caught a couple days prior), a legit full run was likely out of the question once the stutters and crashes kicked in. [shamelessplug]Ultimately, if what you want to see is grinds for all zones mode runs without safeties, then that's what *my* twitch stream is for - not GDQ's charity marathon stream.[/shamelessplug] - Mic was picking up the keyboard a bit more than I would've liked, but unfortunately that's just how it ended up. I use a very loud mechanical keyboard and deliberately tap a little harder to keep my keypresses audible - it helps me stay on-beat through panic-ridden scenarios. If I do Coda runs in GDQ in the future, I'll consider de-miccing completely for the run and letting couch 100% cover commentary. Anyway, I went in at least wanting a sub-20, but considering the curveballs thrown at me I'm happy to have made it in under estimate at all. Still kicking myself a little for the DM3 fat-finger, but that's just how it goes on stage sometimes. Thanks everyone for understanding and for all the love!

I have a hifi headset and even when I try to focus on your typing I don't hear it that much while I was able to hear the sound of the game just fine so I think most of the people complaining about it just have a "bad-luck" configuration or are just complaining people in general. That or they have a "bad beat hearing" so they aren't able to adapt themself to the music beat + the key beat. (I played a lot of rythm games so maybe people like me are so used to hear keyboards on beat that we aren't miding them anymore). Of course you can make it sound better but don't forget you're doing your run and no matter what you do people will complain for the small things (like if you don't speak at all, you'll have a lot of people complaining you were asocial and stuff, I don't know xD). Keep what you're doing because you're doing it great!

First of all, this was a phenomenal run from my experience of the game. Also, thanks so much for your shoutout at the end keeping it real. I think a lot of people forget -- we all love video games and we love seeing people show their skills -- but the real reason you were there playing for us is because of the funds the medical community needs for cancer prevention research. It's incredible how much money you and other runners have raised. Thanks for tastefully mentioning your friend's recent hardship to bring us back down to earth for a moment.

I don't understand the people complaining about the keyboard clicking noise. If it wasn't for it I would have have forgotten halfway through how absolutely MENTAL this performance was. Eeeeeeh, all of them are DLC achievements. He most likely had the game at 100% already. The DLC character Nocturna is just not as fun for somebody who is _literally a god at the game_ She's a very newbie friendly character. Also one of those achievements is an All character run. So, there's an all characters run - which on it's own is tedious as hell (And can screw over hours of work by one mistake) and then there's the DLC+ all chars run which is even worse. He did the former. Still, almost 5k hours, amazing!
@luigifan45855 жыл бұрын
To give an idea on how easy it is to play as Nocturna Your starting weapon basically lets you parry-attack out of any situation. Get cornered by 3+ monsters, just keep triggering a attack action against them and you'll never get hit once due to parries blocking any incoming damage completely when you attack
@iankrasnow53835 жыл бұрын
One of the achievements is an all chars run on co-op. I doubt he's done that one.
@alyastastic5 жыл бұрын
To elaborate on how easy it is to play as Nocturna, once I got cornered between two monsters and two walls (an orc and a blademaster right next to me, so the two were completely immune to my attacks, the edge of the map and a shop wall with no bombs). I just kept attacking them the whole song and I didn't even lose my multiplier even though I spent the whole level like this. Also, instead of dying, she gets transformed into a bat, which gives her flight, four damage, heals her every five kills and lets her see every enemy in the level.

To anyone who has not played this game, when you play as Koda, two fourth-zone enemies change: the ooze golems only ooze one tile, instead of every time you hit them, because of how often it creates impossible situations; and normally fourth-floor bats move every beat, which often makes them impossible to even go near safely. If you really want to see how terrifying fourth-zone is when not toned down, watch an Aria run. Although, the deadly gold & doubled speed make this truly astonishing anyways.

Same as The Ghost, I was able to hear the game sound and beat just fine. But then again, the "levels of sounds" vary from one headset to another (etc.) and even on a same headset, som people configure them differently. For instance, you can configure your headset to hear voices clearer because voices are generaly on a different level than most sounds. So I'm not saying you're wrong, just that you had "no luck" in this. Then again, it was a beat game: of course hearing the game is important but it's hard for the runner to make sure he hears his clicking to help him while still being able to talk so we can hear him.

if they were playing an easier character, it would be a problem. But with Coda? not a character to play for a marathon. they also don't have infinite time, so runners really can't just screw up big time halfway though a run then restart from the beginning.
@Oneiroclast5 жыл бұрын
Coda doesn't have a character-specific final boss. Technical difficulties are out of the runner's control. The "copouts" are just safety saves and this is without question the hardest run ever showcased at a GDQ. The TGM run from a few years ago is the only one that even comes close.
@ericpoore20635 жыл бұрын
With the amount of focus and skill required to seriously do a complete run of this, it’s completely understandable. While it does mean it’s not really a full speedrun, these types of runs always felt more of a showcase than a full run (like that one stepmania segment they had a few years back) due to the sheer skill and randomness of the game. Even if he didn’t get the full run, he still made it pretty damn far and he definitely deserves credit for being able survive that long.
